Question for Camaro experts.
rhs856 replied to sak's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yes, some General Motors production codes have made their way into the name of the car - Z-28, ZR-1, ZR-2, ZO-6 all come to mind. -
This car is like an optical illusion. I keep following the lines saying to myself, "This just is not possible!" Fantastic job, Mike.

I'm in love with those rims on that '70(?). Nice job on all.

I checked my notes and this is what I had written down: Red, Clear Red, Orange, Clear Orange, Yellow, Clear Yellow, and White (I guess 5 was an understatement!). I used Testor's Wet Look Clear.

Nice Skyline. I'm imagining the Crazy Eights from Kill Bill driving a gaggle of them through the streets of Tokyo.

Looking For: Dark Grey Chevelle?
rhs856 replied to Scuderia's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Lawrence, I've gone through every Chevelle, Nova, Impala, and El Camino (you never know! ) in the Under Glass section, I've done google searches (web pages and images) for this site and the "other" site, and I've come up empty handed. I feel like the only solution is for you to build it. -
2012 POST APOCALYPSE/ZOMBIE HUNTER COMMUNITY BUILD
rhs856 replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in Community Builds
I'm just going to use regular screen. Find a hardware that will sell it to you by the foot (or see if you can get some scraps). -
I would love to see some more shots of the "El Camaro," Steven. That looks sweet.

I agree with you, John. So many hobbies are plagued with people that are leaps and bounds of the average person and look down on the people that don't throw their whole paychecks into the best "gear" or spend every waking hour doing the hobby. Not to say that there aren't builders that take things to the next next level or spend hours a day building - it's just that the people that do are always willing to offer tips, advice, reference photos, or whatever you need in a friendly manner. As long as a builder is willing to listen to criticism and ask for help, they can find all the support they'll need to become a better builder.

A few questions about 2010+ Mustangs
rhs856 replied to Jordan White's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Try putting this in 1:1 Car Reference Pictures. There are a lot of good people there that could answer your questions and/or snap some pics of their car for you. -
That black is super smooth! Nice work.

2012 POST APOCALYPSE/ZOMBIE HUNTER COMMUNITY BUILD
rhs856 replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in Community Builds
The trading vehicle has some new add-ons! I made a ladder rack (with a couple of ladders) out of angled styrene and "2x4's." The "bolts" are hex rod. The ladders are an Evergreen ladder kit for a different scale that I made to be a little closer to 1/25. I added some chain to the tailgate. In the bed are the painted sawn-off shotgun and shells and some flexible hose. The flexible hose will go from the carburetor to the new air intake through the side of the engine compartment. This much fun should be against the law! -
2012 POST APOCALYPSE/ZOMBIE HUNTER COMMUNITY BUILD
rhs856 replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in Community Builds
Thanks, Justin! I definitely flattered some people building it! It's only a skeleton of what it's going to be: I need to add on assorted wires, hoses, an ammo belt, and I'm imagining the controls for it being mounted on the steering wheel or dash. -
What Kind of Paint Do You Use and Why?
rhs856 replied to Miatatom's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I've been playing around with nail polishes and Createx acrylics, but my go-to paints are MM or Testor"s enamels. -
You did a nice job with the rust. Any more engine shots?

If I really wanted to punish myself, I'd make some scale shells to load it with! Dragon Fire, anyone? -
2012 POST APOCALYPSE/ZOMBIE HUNTER COMMUNITY BUILD

Spent an hour or so making the driver's personal weapon of the Survivor Trading Vehicle. This sawn-off (not painted yet) keeps the walkers at a distance. -
i just would like to know

I get it at my LHS. I haven't seen it anywhere else. -
2012 POST APOCALYPSE/ZOMBIE HUNTER COMMUNITY BUILD
rhs856 replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in Community Builds
It's been 6 months since I signed on for this and I'm finally ready to attack this thing. This is going to be a trading vehicle: a truck loaded with supplies, parts, weapons, and other assorted junk that travels the zombie infested wastelands searching for encampments of survivors to barter with. It's battle scarred - from it's past life as a farm truck, present use as zombie "crowd control," and persistent abuse from dead fists pounding to get at the driver inside. So far, I've started on the dents and scrapes. I drilled two shotgun blasts - one through the passenger door and one through the roof - where the driver had to defend himself from inside the truck. It's hard to get a walker off the roof and focus on your driving at the same time. From the beginning, I knew I wanted a minigun and it needed to be accessible to the driver. Below is where I am in the build. -
It can be done. The chassis/body will have to be sanded to make them fit and the screw mounts will have to be cut off of the Galaxie.

Do a google search for "true fire stencils". There are quite a few out there. For variety, you will want at least 2 or 3 different stencils. Mike Lavallee has put out some videos on True Fire that are definitely worth the time and money if you want to do this. There are also many Youtube videos on the subject. This Nova has about 8 layers of paint making up the flames. I used Testor's Blazin' Black as a base and Tamiya acrylics (5 colors with 6 stencils) for the fire. It took awhile, but I was happy with the results.

I have two; one from Harbor Freight ($4) and one from Radio Shack($14). They both do the same thing for me, hold small parts while I detail paint, but the main difference is size. The RS one is big and beefy. If I tap it with my arm, it stabilizes quickly without tipping off of the desk. The HF one is more top heavy (or less bottom heavy - the base is much smaller) and tips over easily. From my experience in having both, if you are going to get one, spend the extra $10 and get the RS one.

Airbrushing Nail Polish - buildup problem
rhs856 replied to rhs856's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Thanks to everyone who posted - I'm looking into nail polish thinner and will definitely try lowering my pressure. Art, your explanation is incredible - it confirmed my suspicions and made me laugh to realize that I'm having the same problems as a person who actually paints 1:1 cars. -
Airbrushing Nail Polish - buildup problem

So if it's overspray, how can I fix it? is my pressure too high at 30 psi?
