'50 Chevy Pickup '50s Style
rmvw guy replied to rmvw guy's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Oh, I forgot the engine shot and chassis. -
Just finished this one up while waiting on the paint to dry on my Rat Roaster. I painted it last summer with Model Master Fifties Aqua enamel. I used diamond plate in the bed and started feeling the '50s vibe right away so I went with it. Originally I planed on using a '55 Chevy V8 but, forgot before finishing the 6, so I went with it. This is the first time I've ever used spots or fake side pipes but, I kind of like the look. Tell me what you think.

I think the enamel on the Rat Roaster is finally dry enough to handle. I snapped the interior in the body as a test. Maybe now I can move forward on this project. -

While I've been watching the paint dry on the Rat Roaster I managed to finish the '50 Chevy Pickup. There will be more pictures "Under Glass". -
Okay looking back at post 17 I was a little harsh. I thought I would get plenty of hate mail. I strive for the perfect model just like a lot of you guys but, when it comes to judging someone else's work, not for me. When anyone mentions BMF I become irritated, Having completed only one full model with BMF ever, thinking finally I'm happy with it, next morning, guess what? Not that good. I like to see it perfect and I only know one guy that can do that. He doesn't like to do it any more he told me, it's been six years. Now I will stand behind my comment, Isn't it suppose to be fun? Number one, have fun, and don't always expect to win the big trophy. I've seen guys walk away from a contest angry and dejected because they didn't win, that's obsessive! .........Maybe a little off the subject...........The original question: #1 thing that brings that extra something out of your model - The perfect paint job.

Nice job, I also love that color. I used it on a Jeep and I think mine came out a little darker with gray primer under the paint. Just wondering what primer you used if any? I love the over all look too, and the stance. -
One of my favorite kits also with three built so far and three more on the horizon. Just simple clean fun. Thanks for sharing.
-
Very cool! Agree with everybody so far.
-
Wow nice ,clean job, I like it better than my own! Nice job on the rack and the surf boards too.

Are You a "One & Done" Builder?
rmvw guy replied to Casey's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
If it's one I like I usually think in threes. Only exception is if I can only get one. -
Welcome Marcus.

Looks good in that color. I had an Aunt and Uncle that had one that color, it brings back memories. Is that the old AMT kit? Good job on the foil, paint and everything else.
-
Right and I still think those AMT '32s are great. One of my first 1/25 scale models was the 5-window '32. Hey Tom, I do it all the time, wish I could remember every part for every kit I've built.
-
I do believe the rear end is molded separately and one of AMT's finest early kits. I have built one stock like this, a pickup and a woody, they are all easily modified. I think the Model A is one of the finest Fords ever built. Nice job on yours Thomas. The paint is gorgeous.

I don't think I would want to park a vehicle in or around that building. It looks all too familiar. Nice job on the diorama, I love it!!!! Why would you want to delete it?

Thanks for the link Kevin. I've always been a fan of Charlie Hutton ever since American Hot Rod. Boyd had a way of finding talent and some people on the show seemed to be there only for drama. I remember a guy they called Blue Bear and of course DeWayne who I think may have been responsible for Charlie leaving. ( and a lot of others) I seem to remember another guy named Chip Foose who worked for Boyd Wonder why he left?

AMT 40 Ford Sedan Stock Car , first time building
rmvw guy replied to CrazyGirl's topic in WIP: Model Cars
The paint looks awesome, I bet the real car never looked that good. You are really coming along on this one, great work. Are you sure this is your first model car? You have brought some talent here from some other form of art if so, very impressed. -
Thanks Charlie, I'm with you on this one too, about the Plymouth...... I forgot to mention above, I live in a big GM town here, We had a Chevrolet plant here that employed over 6000 at one time. You've probably heard of Muncie 4- speeds and also Borgue Warner began here. Any way we saw a lot of Chevys here and a lot of '57s. The next town over Newcastle, had a Chrysler plant and Chrysler cars are still everywhere in their town. I think that's how it worked back long ago when people were loyal to the products they helped make. I don't know where the closest Ford plant was, probably Indianapolis but, they weren't very popular here.

Richard I'm with you on the VWs even though we don't have a desert close by, I still love the Dune Buggies. My Uncle moved to California from Ohio in 1957 with a brand new '57 Ford wagon and 5 boys along with is Wife of coarse. I always loved the '57 Fords. In the late '60s in High School Auto Mechanics I repaired all the rust panels on a '57 ford two door custom owned by my student teacher. And there was a lot of rust, this was in 1967 when the car was 10 years old. I painted the car white, the original color and the teacher was very pleased. You probably didn't see the amount of rust we get here on cars in the rust belt. My Uncle returned here in 1967 after a divorce, in a little '67 Datson two seat sports car, I can't remember what model it was. I drove it to school and the kids went crazy over it. Nobody here had ever heard of a Datson. It began to rust after one winter here. The bumpers pitted real bad. He drove that car over 170 thousand miles and never changed the oil, just added oil. One of his girl friends wrecked it, and that was the end.
