Jaaaag XK120- Gentleman's Racer! Paint and Engine Update 7/26
warra48 replied to jaymcminn's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I just finished Revell AG 1945 MG TC. To keep the Revell AG theme going, I dragged the Jag out again. Started building this at least a decade ago, and put it away in frustration. So far I've cleaned up the body, opened the doors on each side, opened the boot (trunk in USA lingo). The doors have prototypically correct hinges made from brass plate. The interior panels also had to be cut once the doors were opened. The opening doors also meant I've had to cut recesses into the chassis or floorboards where it's recessed at the door areas, and build up the panels at the front and back of the door jambs. Consequently, the underside of the doors have been built up to the correct profile. Pictures to follow in a later seperate thread. -
Real for me too.

Great driver and builder, and a modest man. Sad loss indeed.

World Rally Championship. And welcome to the OP from another ClogWog living at the other end of the world.

Wanna buy Eleanor?

That's the car from the remake of the movie, not the original Gone in 60 Seconds. -
I think I've cracked this one. No hints from me.

I say it's real. I know what a real RR looks like, as I'm driven to golf every second week in one by one of my mates. The other week I drive him in my Subaru. I think I have the better bargain here.

I voted MODEL, but if that's wrong, then I think it's REAL.

Ah, Bathurst. Was actually interesting and worth following on those them thar olden days. Totally ruined with the bogan v8 supercar crrapp today. Might slightly improve now that Nissan and Mercedes are joining the circus from this year. Nice work, nice car.

I quit cold turkey back in 1975, and haven't smoked one since. That was when mrs warra and I were married. She's never been a smoker, ever. I can smoke the occasional Cuban or pipe, and it doesn't create any cravings. Now, I do love my pint of beer every day, as I have a home brewery in my garage, but I can limit myself to the one pint a day. Maybe I just don't have an addictive nature. OK, here's an old joke: Question: Do you smoke after sex? Answer: I don't know, I never looked.

I think it all depends if the light bulb changers have an Irish background or not.... You work out what I mean. I love Irish beers. I love British beers. I love USA beers. Did I mention I love beers? I've just consumed an American India Pale Ale from my own brewery, so there. Then I took Pug dear for her walkies, so everyone's happy. And Mrs warra is making dinner, just toasted avacado, prawn, and brie toasted sandwiches. Easy Sunday night dinner.

My guess is MODEL.

I've got it right this time, definitely REAL.

I usually get it wrong, but I say REAL.

Model Cars worldwide...

I'm a bit of a United Nations myself. Never sure which country's colours to barrack for, but seeing as I've lived longest in Australia, I guess that will do. 15 years growing up in The Netherlands. Then 10 years in New Zealand. Finally Australia, in Sydney NSW, Perth WA, and now Port Macquarie NSW. Newcastle, the home of a couple of earlier posters, has a great hobby shop, Frontline Hobbies, the source of my supplies. As it happens, Newcastle also has a great homebrew shop, Marks Home Brew, also the source of my supplies for one of my other hobbies. -
50/50 so at the toss of a coin, I vote MODEL. Real or not, it's about as ugly as a car can get. You'd need to drive wearing a full face helmet or balaclava to hide your identity if it's real, just to save yourself embarrasment.
-
Mooi gedaan. or: Nicely done!
-
I've been wrong the last few times, so I must be right this time when I say it's REAL.

I think humidity may have a lot to do with it. Make sure you have a good moisture trap in your airline, and don't lay on the clear too thick. Do it in easy light coats. If you are using a spray can, why not decant it and spray it through your airbrush to get thinner coats down? I use automotive clear sprayed through my airbrush (my brother-in-law owns an automotive paint wholesaler), but I need to polish it out to get it really clear and shiny.

Do people even think anymore

It's a student exercise at a design studio. The object of the exercise was to see how many wrong, tacky, ugly, and plain useless things they could stuff onto or into the one vehicle. At the conclusion they were told to design the complete opposite for real world designs. -
I'll vote with the minority, and say it's a model.

Hang in there, giving up is worth it. Wishing you all the best. I only ever smoked ciggies for a few years, and gave up when I was 27 on the day I was married in 1975. I simply decided I was no longer a smoker, and that was it. Haven't had a ciggie since. I do enjoy a quality cigar about 5 or 6 times a year, but I don't inhale those, and they certainly don't bring back any pangs for the ciggies.
-
Real. The paint and reflections, the panel fit etc all point me to that conclusion. However, I've been wrong before, but I'm sticking with it.
-
I vote MODEL.

My vote this time is: MODEL
