Freightliner FLD 120
Jim B replied to Christopher J's topic in Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Very well done. I like it. What happened to the Freightliner badge on the grill? -

379 ext hood in resin still avalible?
Jim B replied to RocketJockey87's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Jay, the 379 hood that P&P offered was a Bill Drennen product. Several years ago Bill pulled all of his masters back from P&P (no idea why), and is offering them himself. Bill is a member here, so you could PM him if you want one of those hoods. To back up Clayton, yes, Gary Wallace from GW Trucks offers a 379 hood. I have seen that hood at model shows here in Central New York, and it is quite nice. -
1/48 Stearman PT-17

Maybe. I haven't started rigging yet so I don't know if the lengths will work or not. -
Few trucks I've completed

Some nice looking trucks you guys have there. Well done. -
1/48 Stearman PT-17
Jim B replied to Jim B's topic in WIP: All The Rest: Motorcycles, Aviation, Military, Sci-Fi, Figures
Thanks, Lee. Assembly is pretty straight forward, and quite simple. There really aren't all that many parts. The only major issue that I've found so far is that there really aren't any location points for the rigging except for the tail section. It's been causing me a lot of concern. I like things to be correct. There was a small fit issue with the cowling section between the engine & interior section. And the wooden propeller decals don't fit at all. Other than that, things have fit really well. As for the colors, the blue is Testors Gloss Dark Blue (1211), which might be a little on the dark side; the yellow is Tamiya Camel Yellow (TS-34), the interior is Testors Model Masters Interior Green FS34151, and the prop is Tamiya Brown (X-9). -

Making some headway on the Stearman. Still really have no idea how I'm going to rig the aircraft. I have some ideas, but more trepidation that solutions. I guess I'm just going to have to bite the bullet & rig it. Here is where it stands right now: WIP on the prop. I tried to used the Revell supplied decals, and that was a disaster. I'm going to go with paint & hope for the best. I'm hoping that the Hamilton Standard logos are salvageable so I can put them on the prop. Looking more & more like an airplane! -
Very nice job! In a couple of those shots I wasn't sure if I was looking at the diorama or the actual neighborhood for a second. Then the cups in the background tipped me off. Excellent work.

Giving honest truckers a bad name

Can you imagine the news fervor if it actually had been a Kardashian or Bruce Jenner (or whatever he wants to be called now)? -
My day off. Finally took a drive.
Jim B replied to Petetrucker07's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Cool looking café. Wait a sec, you drive for a living, and in your spare time you took a drive? You really like driving! -
Giving honest truckers a bad name
Jim B replied to Superpeterbilt's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Tom, I really hate to say this (but it's true). The only reason why the Tracy Morgan story was on the news for so long is because he is a celebrity (and possibly a couple of other reasons, too). If he had been a "Regular Joe", it might have been a one evening story on the news, then they would have moved on to the Kardashians! -
Truck Kits You've Scored Recently
Jim B replied to Superpeterbilt's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Nice haul, Terry. Where did you get the 1950s trailer (besides eBay)? I have a Ford F8 that's planned, and it'll need something more period correct behind it. -

Mack Superliner update 9/7
Jim B replied to k100's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Apparently Italeri did this with a lot of their 1/24 US truck kits. There is a Freightliner, a Mack-liner, and a Ford-liner that I know of. Apparently their Peterbilt frames are accurate, but I cannot confirm that. -

Nice job at Mack-i-fying (is that a word? ) the frame. Are you planning on correcting the cab & hood as well? -
Accurate, Modern US Trailer Kits?
Jim B replied to vincen47's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I heard the Revell of Germany 48ft trailer is too short (height). Can someone confirm this? -
Very sad news. I read his books constantly back in the 1980s. Never actually built anything, but made a lot of plans. He will be missed. Yes, he did most of the diorama work for Monogram models.

Freightliner FLD 120 on the bench

Ah, that explains that. Thanks. -
Huey!
Jim B replied to a topic in WIP: All The Rest: Motorcycles, Aviation, Military, Sci-Fi, Figures
Again, commenting on an old thread, but very nice job on the Huey. I tried to build that kit as well, and it was an unmitigated disaster. I don't remember any troop seats in my kit, though. It was the gunship kit. I read "Chickenhawk" as well. Decent book. -

Very nice progress. I like all the detailing you're putting into this. If you're going to use that driver, you might consider doing some mods to him as well. It looks like he is staring at the instrument panel & not out the windshield (or he might just be taking a nap while waiting to be unloaded). Just curious, what's wrong with the kit steering wheel?
