Steel Haul - NEW Tractor unit UPDATE!!!!
tiking replied to tiking's topic in Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Thank you for your comment. I am amazed at this thread and all the positive comments it has received. It goes to show that my so called hard work paid off. ☺ Hoping to be wrapping this build up quickly so I can get on with another project that I am planning. I also see that Italeri is finally releasing a 6x4 R-series Scania truck. I can't understand why it took so long. Then a transit ford van, as well as some other goodies. I am gonna be broke by the end of this year. -

Much appreciated. I am in the process of building the second tractor for this trailer. A Scania 144l 530hp model. I think it will go together better than the 142H tractor. I will use the 142H for another trailer which i will build for it. -

Scrap Container Haul - CALLING IT DONE!!!

Thanks Rob. Yeah. He seems to be the most liked on this truck amongst many others. I kinda like using him. It just makes the overall look, somewhat nostalgic. Btw, I am adding a netting to cover the tyres to give added detail or interest. -

Thanks for that comment. I did not think I would be able to replicate steel using cardboard when I first thought of the idea but I was stubborn about it. Glad I gave it a try. -

I finally got the tires into the container. 163 tires to be exact. Thanks to all my fellow modellers from around the world who donated most of the tires. I also added the twist locks to the underside at all four corners of the container to hold them in place. I made some few changes of the placement of the wheels and did some minor painting and slight weathering. I lso moved the tractor slightely forward away from the trailer to show more of the fifth wheel. So I hope you all approve of the final look as I am calling this done. ---------------------------- -

Hi guys. Here are the some pics of what was done to the trailer since the last time I posted. As mention before, I had removed the electrical box and support stands to the front of the trailer. I also added a fire extinguisher. Instead of concrete slabs I decided to go with steel slabs, Only two. I think I will build a third sheet. Why steel? Well. I saw a haul with several large steel plates being transported in a similar manner and thought I would go for the 'not-so-normal' look, instead. You know me. Different is my middle name. I know there are standard trailers for concrete slabs and steel plates and slabs. But I found out that certain companies, in rare instances, use by any means necessary, quick and unconventional methods in transporting goods, if time was of an essence. I too have seen weird setups that just proves to me that transport methods do differ. Now, if they do not adhere to the EU regulation code; then that's another issue all together. The sheet of steel were made from cardboard. The chain tensioners were scratch built. I am contemplating building another short base tractor 2x4 tractor for this trailer. I already have one in mind. Not too sure. But I will build it and see if it suits it better. If not, I will stick to the one I already have. ---------------------------------- -

Glad you approve Dan. I will be building another tractor for this trailer. I already got one in mind. Mean while I am in the process of adding the steel loads and chaining them up. As mentioned in my ealier post, I have already made some changes to certain details. So, I will post when it is done. Thanks for looking. -

Since these pics were taken I have since removed the trailer support stands and placed them under the front side of the trailer. Apparently it made the trailer wider according to EU trailer regulations. I also removed the box and placed at the front end. Looked much better. I've also added other details. Working on concrete or steel slab loads for this trailer now. Will post updated pics when all is done. Thanks for looking. -

I have been working on the trailer for the Scania 142H long based chassi for some time now. So far this is where I am. I have finally added the side wind deflectors, which I painted black. I also toned down some of the weathering on the passenger side. Still have a little toning down near the windshield as well. The trailer was scratch built and it is 90% complete. I have to add more details and a bit more subtle weathering around the trailer. I tried to make it look somewhat out dated by design but yet have a kinda modern feel to the rest of the overall look. I decided on the mix color combo; has the trailer, had been painted unprofessionally several times during its hard course life. Secondly, I wanted it to be different and stand out. I am making the precast concrete slabs that will eventually be placed on the trailer when done..I am experimenting with various materials. The ones you see in the pics are made from posterboards. We will see what I end up using. The trailer has rest mounts for four precast slabs, which in turn can double up on each mount depending on thickness of the precast slab. So I hope you like the trailer and the overall look of this tractor/trailer combo so far. ---------------------------- -------------------------------
