  1. Very cool! I didn't make out the "crust" on your first pic. I was going to say something about the length of the exhaust pipes but after seeing the "Pipes" thread.....never mind......they look great!!!
  2. If you can believe it, there was a Japanese tin toy made of the Thomasissimmo. I saw it with my own eyes. It was about a foot long and wasn't too bad although I am sure it is rare and very pricey.
  3. That is priceless! It may not have been a kid that tried building it, though. I know adults who could have done that. Obviously not model enthusiasts but someone who one day said, "I want to try that". I once got a Revell VW van built-up in a box of stuff and the front axle was upside down so that the shocks and their brackets touched the ground and the engine cooling air scoops faced down also!
  4. Very fun model! You give the old farmer too much credit for doing such sophisticated bodywork! Most would have sawed it off at the doorline and left it!
  5. Early 60s class designation would be A/C for coupe. You would need piecrust slicks for anything pre-'65. Someone back in the day did have a twin engine car with 2 rear axles(one wide, one narrow so the slicks would tuck in next to each other) that had a Messerschmidt microcar body stuck on it! This should be a cool model. It is wild but could have been real.
  6. That is a fascinating photo (The dragsters!). Only one, the one in the back of the pickup has a blower. I love the variety in the front wheels. Also cool is the Jag drophead in the background. The pic must be about 56-58 or so. I think the second pic is Tommy Ivo's first dragster. Thanks for sharing those pics and a pox on you guys posting those Japanese monstosities!
  7. Fun Race stuff! Let's get back to snilmerg race cars, shall we? And for big brother recap CMA. And now! For your viewing pleasure, more highly weird stuff! WARNING! Remember! This can not be unseen after viewing!! As you were.
  8. Some of you guys thought you could come up with weird stuff. Here is my opening salvo. Go on, Make my day! Mille Miglia Isetta. Full extension 2CV. Full compression 2CV. Renault Espace F1 Van. Magnifique, Non? I can just see the rugrats in the back seat dropping action figures into the intakes! I couldn't find a Grem-lin transporter but how about a Pacer? Citroen DS transporter. They used Mini rear suspensions hence the little spares on the roof. A Maxi hauling a Mini - Smashing!!
  9. Tomy running RC2, Belgians making beer. These are improvements in our world.
  10. SmartCars were made for crowded and narrow streets in European cities. They were not meant to be high mileage specials. They were meant to be space saving and easy to find a parking space for. I know all you guys with extended cab 4X4 diesels who live in the 'burbs don't understand the need, but some folks like them and find them useful. I kind of like them but would rather have a Mini.
  11. WOW! That would be interesting. I have a friend who does have an original Aurora Racing Scenes factory display.
  12. Wrong! Wrong! Wrong! Please re-read what I wrote. It was not in the published catalogs but was sold normally through normal distribution channels. How else does a 12 year old kid get one from a department store in Canada? Sheesh.
  13. Sometimes parts box specials are the coolest and most fun models to build and your 27 sedan here is no exception. Very cool!
  14. Au contraire. They were sold in stores! How do you think a young guy like me with absolutely no connections to anything cool would get one? It wasn't cataloged meaning it was not in their printed catalogs. I actually got mine during a family vacation to Canada in a department store.
  15. Those detail shots would have been a dead giveaway that it was a model. The hardware is out of scale and the wirewheels are a bit crude. The patination is perfect and the overall look is excellent.
  16. The guy with the Batmobile Corgi is off his rocker! The 1/8 Porsche is in the ballpark. They go for $300-500 over here. I wish I still had mine! The Pop Art Mini auction you linked us to earlier is the rarest Corgi supposedly. It was never cataloged and some have actually sold for $2000.+ at auction. I don't think it is as rare as some say. I have had one that I got when I was 12-13 years old but it isn't mint and there is no box for it. I won't sell it anyway.
  17. Couldn't they find any bigger ones than shown??
  18. Top notch stuff, John! It is very fun seeing your work come together. Are the plastic frame members stiff enough? I would have used a few brass ones for strength just because I am a clumsy builder and have to make my models strong enough to survive me handling them while building!
  19. Actually, I think Palmer is making a comeback and this will be their first model. By the way Harry, I did post this in the "Just because you can" thread a little while back. It is still ugly!!
  20. Ah! The Amphicar! It handled like a boat on the road and a car in the water!
  21. MPC did several pre-fogged kits that year. I know they also did the Charger that way. I do not believe they masked anything. It was just fogged along the rockers and the tops of the fenders. I don't know why the one side of yours was off. The passenger side is more typical of what it should have been.
  22. Old Hubley kits all had paintings for boxart. If anyone had done one it would have been them!
  23. Roadsters do not have crank-up windows, George. They often have side curtains. Cabriolet and convertible or convertible coupe are all the same thing and they have crank-up windows. A touring car or Phaeton is the same as a roadster but with 2 seats, 3 or 4 doors - no side windows! A convertible sedan is the crank-up window version of the touring. And despite what Mercedes marketing calls it a coupe can not have 4 doors!!!
