  1. TKM made one!!!!!
  2. Looks like a pipe organ model there, John!
  3. Looks better without the Skirts. In fact, it looks real good.
  4. Another interesting thought about 70s cars is that the most popular ones could be turned into great racecars like Vegas. Who has even seen a stock Vega model built? I have seen lots of Pro/Stocks and Funny Cars. The same holds true for the Dusters/Demons, Ford Fairmont, Chev Monza, etc. Some can be done as muscle cars like the Duster/Dmon but it has to be really an interesting car before people will have an interest in it.
  5. I have asked this before and I suspect I will likely utter it again before I expire. Don't any of you guys have enough kits to build already? HUH? The kit collecting side of your split personalities is taking over. It's like having the angel on one shoulder and the devil on the other except it is the kit builder and the kit collector fighting for your soul. We all think we will build it but we actually collect kits much more. The model companies like that. They sell more product, obviously. I actually don't care if another new kit is ever made again! I have enough to build! However, I could change my mind if that 1910 Olds Limited is actually tooled up. But make sure it has the Touring car and Limousine bodies in it!
  6. The funny thing about those cars is that the Chevettes were restyled Isuzus and the original Omni Horizons had VW engines in them!!
  7. Just a few weeks ago I passed a Triumph Stag dead on the side of the freeway!!!!
  8. Every mis-aligned part on that Rolls is of the finest British materials and craftsmanship!!
  9. Totally agree with you, Harry. I think they will tool up my 1910 Olds Limited touring car just after they tool up for your 1/8 scale Superbird!!
  10. A couple of random memories of walking into showrooms in the 70s: A Chrysler?Plymouth dealership which is long closed(80s) - Why are there grinder scratches - big grinder scratches - under the paint? and in the showroom? A Lincoln/Mercury dealership with a Cartier edition Mark something - Why is the headliner/ sunroof assembly handing down so low it hits my head when I sit in it ( I am 5"9")? Most American Cars from about 73-75 on are just horrid. 4000 lb Corvettes with 200 HP smogged engines, deisel Cadillacs and Chevettes, Flat black Pintos and Mavericks, What did the Japanese come out with in the 70s? 240Z, RX-7, Accords, etc. I concur that tooling up model kits of 70s and 80s US cars would be a waste with very few exceptions.
  11. The cars I really like came out before my dad was born. Actually my grandparents were kids when they came out!! 1910-12 Olds limited and 1907-09 American Underslung are my holy grails. I know I will have to scratchbuild them.
  12. I do, I do!! I think they were imported. They sold at least 17 of them!
  13. I remember hearing that when Monogram released the Land Rover Kit in the early 80s that one of Monograms execs really, really wanted it and everyone else there said it would be a dog. We all know what happened. Then you had every model company doing a Chevy van in the 70s thereby splitting the market up and then they said vans don't sell! AMT re-released the 65 Mustang in the 70s as a notchback instead of a fastback and they didn't sell so they said Mustangs won't sell. They also did not do the fastback in their 1/16th line of kits. I am sure there are dozens more stories of inept decisionmaking out there. Sometimes a gut feeling works as good as all of the market research, or vice versa. I do not think the rapid prototyping thing will happen in a home setting. Too much technology for the average person. Whatever happened to those flying cars and work from home scenarios we were led to believe were around the corner??
  14. We have been in a Renaissance for some time now. The model car aftermarket has been putting out so much great stuff for over 20 years now that plastic kits are almost superflous! Detail sets, decals, resin parts, complete resin kits and etc. make it almost unnecessary to start with a plastic kit. If you like racecars there are so many small companies throughout the world making very cool kits that it is hard to keep up! Don't get me wrong, the plastic stuff is great and I am impressed with some of the new kits that are coming out but that only tells half of the story for the enthusiast adult model car builder.
  15. Those slicks first came with the mid-engine Garlits dragster from MPC in, I think 71?
  16. Gassers ran a weight to cubic inches formula. Since this is a pretty heavy car you would need a big engine in it. There was a guy named Paul Longenecker who once ran a 60 Pontiac wagon with a big block Chevy in it in the lower classes like F/G or G/G. He carried the front end pretty high off the line. He reportedly had to change out his ring and pinion every 4 runs!!! I would recommend you get the slicks even with the fender edges. It wasn't legal to have tires outside the body. Your period-correctness of components is off a bit - if you care about that. I would go with older style wheels and an I-beam axle to go with the jacked-up look and radiused wheel wells. If your target era is 66 or older you should use piecrust slicks. Remember - gassers got a 10% engine setback.
  17. A lot of the responses here indicate that the original post was misunderstood. He wasn't asking about bad kits. That's too easy and obvious. He was asking about kits like those awful early mid 80s AMT Nascar cars. They looked like actual kid's toys. In the late 60s AMT also put out a moving semi truck and trailer which were obviously toys that were molded in styrene and thrown unassembled in the box. Some of the Revell snap kits from the 90s were almost in that category but the shapes were nicer.
  18. I always wanted to see someone make an accurate replica of that car since the kit is so far off under the skin. Great job. Cheers!
  19. I normally don't like distressed models but this one I like. It is restrained which is so much more realistic than the ones which look like they were sitting in a lake for 30 years.
  20. Seriously? At first I thought it was April 1. How do people with so little sense get their hands on enough money to be able to do this? I guess that is a question for the ages. I will wait fo the Mr. Fusion powered car myself.
  21. Did you know that 100 out of 12 people are dyslexic?
  22. That's nothing! I have a kit I bought in 1972 that I haven't taken the shrinkwrap off of yet! And I never will. Actaullay I finished a kit I bought in 1979 last year. I am so proud!
  23. 1) The people ( Well..actually....Most of the people!!) 2)Show off or compete with my latest model. 3)See the other models on display or in competition. 4)Get motivated to build more. 5) Road trip and bad food!
