  1. When you rework a diecast you are turning it into a model kit and assembling it. There is not a thing wrong with that! I have even molded some and cast them into resin to make a plastic kit out of it.
  2. I am an idea man, also. I have worked very hard on the completion aspect of building. Any old fool can start a model but it takes a real builder to finish it!!! I am working on a model I started in 1981! I will do it!!!
  3. Although I have overcome many of the usual problems builders face, I still need to improve a bit more in some areas. I can do a pretty good paint job but I need a bit more patience and not lay so much paint down. It occasionally goes south on me. And I really have problems getting my seams straight while I am sewing scale upholstery!!!(kidding on that last one!)
  4. Best ever scale microwave I have ever seen!!! The whole model reminds me of of "Hollywood's" VwW bus Tiki bar from a few years ago. Very fun and cool.
  5. That is pretty obscure. When you go back to the era of the assembled car, one can come up with hundreds of makes that are equally or even more obscure than that!
  6. Nigel Tufnel: The numbers all go to eleven. Look, right across the board, eleven, eleven, eleven and... Marty DiBergi: Oh, I see. And most amps go up to ten? Nigel Tufnel: Exactly. Marty DiBergi: Does that mean it's louder? Is it any louder? Nigel Tufnel: Well, it's one louder, isn't it? It's not ten. You see, most blokes, you know, will be playing at ten. You're on ten here, all the way up, all the way up, all the way up, you're on ten on your guitar. Where can you go from there? Where? Marty DiBergi: I don't know. Nigel Tufnel: Nowhere. Exactly. What we do is, if we need that extra push over the cliff, you know what we do? Marty DiBergi: Put it up to eleven. Nigel Tufnel: Eleven. Exactly. One louder. Marty DiBergi: Why don't you just make ten louder and make ten be the top number and make that a little louder? Nigel Tufnel: [pause] These go to eleven.
  7. Ta-MEE-ya, TAM-i-ah, Let's call the whole thing off!
  8. It reminds me a bit of the Revell Gypsy dune buggy!
  9. I thought the best "General Lee" was a crushed one.
  10. What I loved about the "Good Old Days" was the process of turning inaccurate under-detailed models into acuurate super detailed show winners. With all of these newer well detailed very accurate models like the Moebius Hudson Hornet coming out is that it takes all of the fun out of building for me! I hate these models! For years I wanted to build a Chi-town Hustler Dodge Charger funny car. Now that a beautiful, well detailed and quite accurate kit is out I have lost all desire to build it! In conclusion, the model manufacturers are ruining the hobby for me. For the humor impaired - That was humor.
  11. I saw the gaps in the panel lines and a few other things and thought model but the valve stems on the wheels say real. I can't imagine a 550 spyder with gaposis of the panels like that. I vote model.
  12. Harry, Did you get my PM? I had it right. Oh well!
  13. I think that trim option and color was only available in Upper Slobovia. C'mon Harry!
  14. Machined Aluminum Specialties is an aftermarket model parts producer who used to make a photo-etch wire wheel set. It wasn't too bad but the hubs and rims were a little generic. If you used the P/E spokes and the the hubs and rims cut from the kit wheels you would have the perfect Duesey wheel.
  15. Hyundai does own Kia, by the way. Both nameplates are producing some great looking cars now. I can remember those first Hyundais which I think were license built Isuzus. The Koreans are ready to leapfrog the Japanese now. Amazing. And "Detroit" still puts out boring garbage.
  16. Hard to believe that was a MIKANSUE! At the time of manufacture they were only meant to be placed next to Dinky and Corgi toys. The 1/43rd biz back in the 70s was not waht it is now!!!!
  17. My early inspirations were definitely Don Emmons and Hank Borger. I got to meet Don at the last two GSL shows I went to and it was a great pleasure. He is a wonderful guy. I was always amazed with the realism and detail that both of those guys put into their models. After that it was builders who were featured in Car Model Magazine's coverage of the MPC series like Tim Boyd and Tom Woodruff and Richard Carroll. When I got back into models in my 20s and started going around the country to participate in NNLs and contests I met and was inspired by people like Randy Derr, Jim Drew, Bill Geary, Tom Dillion, Dan Thomas and many, many others. The truth is that anyone who builds a nice model inspires me to keep on building and striving to heighten my skills.
  18. Ok, now Chuck and Harry are "swearing" in British-ese! What is this world coming to? I am quite in favor of not swearing but not because of some poorly thought out concern for the bambini. It's a matter of taste for me. It is vulgar and as the world gets more and more vulgar I would like some escape and refuge from it. I am all in favor of clever and artful swearing but Gregg doesn't allow that either and who would be the judge of it, anyway? I am cool with the idea that this is Gregg's house and we should respect the rules of the house.
  19. What they all said! Cool Model.
  20. 40 miles is out of town? I guess technically it is. It might as well be 1000 miles with Chicagoland traffic!
  21. If it is relatively fresh it can be straightened but if the resin hascured for more than a month or so the only permanent way to straighten it is to hold it straight with the interior, chassis, windows, etc. If the resin cured fully in the warped position it will like ly want to stay that way. I have old resin hoods that cured warped and nothing but cutting them apart and regluing them together will straighten them.
  22. Take care, Bill. Hopefully it won't be too bad.
  23. I have hearing "rumors" since a few weeks after the Chevies were released!!!!! I will believe it when...............................
  24. A Gurgel? Sounds like something from "Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy". Where is this thing manufactured? You rteally found a weird one, Harry! I was totally stumped.
