  1. That is ugly. It makes me lose interest in cars.
  2. The older kits were taped shut. AMT had special printed tape on the early 60s annuals. I don't remember shrinkwrapping being on kits in stores until early 70s but could not tell you the exact year. If you see shrinkwrapped kits from about 68-69 or older they were not shrinkwrapped when new, that is for sure!
  3. Har. Har. Gee, is that a new joke about Minnesota? I NEVER heard that before!
  4. Nice Job! I like your color choices. They are very "period." Too bad Life-Like decided to make it less life-like by subbing gold plastic for the brass plating that Pyro put in the kits. I also have the set of Pyro Brass cars and I would love to be able to build some of them! Too many kits!
  5. I am impressed. That is very well built and concieved. So often projects like this are more ambitious than the builders skills and the finished results can be a little shaky. Not yours!
  6. Duane and his wife have been through some very trying times lately. You can read about it on their website - Arrowhead They are still trying to make things right on old orders, etc. They won't be accepting new orders until they have taken care of old business. They have my best wishes as they work to get their health back. They are nice people.
  7. Very well done! I like it.
  8. I built the Tyrell at least 20 years ago and still have it. The decals are fine. It was a pleasant kit to build and looks good. I like 1/32 kits and have a fair number of them but it is not popular. The Matchbox kits are pretty fun. I built the Rolls Royce Phantom and the Auto Union. With better wire wheels and tires the Auto Union is a gem. The detail is excellen, even better than most 1/24th kits.
  9. Very Cool! I like what you did to it!
  10. I am very sorry for you and your family's loss. That is very tragic and senseless. My heart goes out to you and your daughter. I should think a lawsuit is in order. If successful, the proceeds could be a great benefit to your daughter and possible future grandchildren, education fund, etc. Take care, man.
  11. Actually, Harry, that is just mid-range ugly for a Porsche race car. You should have seen some of the wierd turboed 908/III cars that ran in the 70s just before the 936 came out. They make the 936 look like a beauty queen.
  12. What was it, an old Record or Starter kit? That is some nostalgia building!
  13. Here are a couple of obscure ones! The old Hawk 1/24th Mercedes W163 Grand Prix car. And didn't the old ERTL Payhauler have a big deisel v-12 in it?
  14. Just get out your razor saw and start splicing v8s and inline 6 engines together! Years ago I made an Offy V-12 from four AMT Indycar engines and a 1/16th Honda V-12 from 2 CBX engines. How awesome would a Ford SOHC motor be as a V-12?
  15. Better yet, how about some fuel tank/bumpers???!!!
  16. I actually have a sales brochure for one. Hint: It's not in English!!
  17. I have researched this issue. 1965 was the year that smooth sidewall slicks came out and people ran both styles that year. 1966 saw less people using the pie-crust style but they were still many being used. 1967 saw virtually nobody who was up to date and competitive still running them. The smooth sidewalls weren't "wrinkly" right away. It took until 68-70 before the wrinkling benefits were known about and utilized.
  18. Very cool, Scott.
  19. What are you talking about?? I saw that car at the Minneapolis Auto show when I was in 7th grade. It was awesome. It was especially cool when they fired up the turbines! Cooler even than the Batmobile which I saw when I was in the 3rd grade!
  20. Kevin at Strada is great. I have bought from and sold to him. A+
  21. I did see an Opel hardtop and a VW panel truck! I love older foreign cars!I loved all of the 58 and 59 Chevs, too. All in all a very cool piece of nostalgia. Thanks for posting, Bill!
  22. I can't watch that show for more than a few minutes because I know some people who are hoarders. It is just too sad. If not for my mom my late dad would have completely spiraled out of control. The way it was it took two years to clean up all the useless ###### he accumulated over a lifetime. I know a few model guys who do qualify as hoarders because they do things like buy more kits when the heat and water bills are unpaid! These guys are trying to fill an emotional hole in their lives. I know other guys who have lots and lots of models but have them nicely arranged and their lives are going well! I call them enthusiastic - probably a little neurotic but what the hey! They put the fun in dysfunction! As for myself I probably had about 800 kits in my 20s but got rid of lots of them in the 80s. In the 90s and 00s I bought more here and there. About 3 years ago at a model car club meeting someone asked how many kits most of us had. I didn't know how many I had! I went home and counted. I had 600. I instantly decided to start thinning out and here is my reasoning. I know all about the math part (kits divided by years to live) and that isn't it. I have many kits that are just fantastic kits, some with lots of great accessory parts and detail sets, etc. I also have a handful of cars I want to semi-scratchbuild or scratchbuild. Most of those 600 kits are a distraction and why would I possibly build something that isn't as awesome as the really cool kits I have. It's the distraction from what I really want to accomplish with my modelbuilding that motivated me to divest. I have sold off a lot of kits since that day and continue to move them out. I don't miss any of the kits that went out the door. I wouldn't mind getting down to about a hundred or even less. One advantage of having sold off so many kits and many were great kits is that I am no longer tempted to pick up more. Why would I buy something ho-hum because it is cheap? I just got rid of twenty kits that were way cooler and I still have a hundred kits that even cooler than that. But there is one kit that I won't sell. It is the first kit I bought with the intention of saving. I was 14 and the coolest kit to my mind back then was the Jo-Han Sox & Martin Cuda. I still have it and it is still shrinkwrapped! I am 54 now!
