  1. I know what you mean. A lot of people don't understand vehicle dynamics at all. many years ago I was paid a high compliment by a woman friend who was riding in my car. She said I drive like a crazy man but she felt safe in the car. My wife has learned to live with it even though she doesn't like it. She knows that I can keep the shiny side up and no contact with other vehicles or unmoving objects. I do tone it down with passengers on board. Most accidents are actually people relinquishing control by panicking. Two winters ago I was driving a 40' city bus during a sudden, slippery and nasty snowfall. I hung the tail out a few times! The scariest was coming into a bus stop that was slightly downhill, passengers lined up at the curb and when I touched the brakes the tail started swinging to the curbside! I pumped the brakes lightly and got it stopped a few feet past the stop. The boarding passengers looked like deer caught in headlights!
  2. In the midwest the snowplow trucks are used to collect garbage in the summers. In New York City they put plows on actual garbage trucks when it snows!!! I was in NYC back in '82 I think, and they had two snowfalls in a week totalling a bit over a foot. I was having a blast whipping around in my Scirocco but man, were New Yorkers having a tough time figuring out how to drive in it!! They can't really plow in Manhattan because there is no place to leave it so they have to haul it all away. Back in 1990 we had a 28" snowfall on Halloween night. I loved it. I had a SAAB 99 at the time and it could go anywhere that that a 4X4 had already gone through even when it had not been plowed. I love driving in snow. I am a frustrated rally driver at heart and my parking brake gets used a lot when it snows and not for parking!! Traffic is always a problem - not many people love the snow like I do when they are driving. I haven't been stuck since I was a teenager - I am 52 now.
  3. Try compresins.com and slixx.com Lots of great parts and resin and decals.
  4. What is wild in the video is that when it all came to rest the chassis was upside down and the body was right side up on top of it. That must be a first!
  5. Obviously whoever came up with Vittore was trying to come up with Ettore. He had one brother who was named Rembrandt Bugatti. Yes, that is true. THE famous artist Rembrandt was a family friend of Carlo Bugatti, the father of Ettore and Rembrandt. Carlo was an artist and designer of some note himself. A lot of his furniture pieces are in Museums around the world. Rembrandt Bugatti was a sculptor, mostly of animal figurines and was very talented. He committed suicide near age 30 or so right after WWI. Jean (short for Gianoberto) Bugatti, Ettore's older son, was the really talented one. He designed all the swoopy, sexy cars in the 30s like the Atlantic Coupe and the T50 Semi-Surprofilee like the Heller kit. Take a look at the 2 different Italieri/Testors Royale kits -The yellow and black one is Ettore, the swoopy blue and black one is Jean. He convinced Ettore to accept superchargers and go to DOHC engines. He was killed in 1939 testing the T57 Lemans car on a road near the factory. That was tragic on many levels. Beyond the immediate loss to his family, one can only imagine what he could have done for the rest of his life. He was only in his 30s!
  6. Rolls-Royce built no coachwork prior to WWII. They only built and sold running chassis. There were "approved" coachbuilders but anyone could order a chassis and have the body built by anyone they wanted. So there were no factory colors at all! The same went for the American(Springfield, Mass.) built Rolls Royce Silver Ghosts and Phantom I. I was at an IPMS show many years ago and someone had taken one of the Pocher Rolls and converted it to one of the Silver Ghost WWI armored cars. It was very well done.
  7. I have several cars that don't run and they sound good, too!
  8. It has great lines. Nice job! What are going to name it?
  9. Here is twist to this thread! Here are some great sounding engines......in scale! and my fave And here is one that I can't decide whether it is dumb or cool!! I couldn't help it. Here is another one. Only 24 cylinders!!
  10. I figured it out immediately! I am a smartass. You have a problem with that? Are you a FUN-KILLER? (The above remarks were intended humorously)
  11. Another lawn ornement!!! It will be fun watching you build this. Do you know what the parts count is not counting nuts, bolt, and screws? less wheel parts? I thought that the wheels consumed a lot of the parts count. I'm just curious. I always thought that the shape of the front of the front fenders on this kit was not right. Do you think so? If you need reference material for any part of the car, I have a ton. Just let me know what you need.
  12. Very nice! Congrats on a nice build, stretching your boundaries, and wowing everyone. I am sure it is a good feeling and it is well deserved. What's next?
  13. Beautiful job, Wayne. That looks great. That is the first one I have seen built which is especially gratifying since I made the master model for Tim at Cheez-cast. I didn't see a nickle out of it. Oh Well!
  14. Since we are on to bikes, here is a goody and Tamiya is coming out with the kit shortly. OH YAY!!! RC166 Ther are a few good Moto Guzzi 500cc V8 clips on youtube also. Fun stuff! a most excellent way to waste a pile of time!
  15. That Fiat 131 looks like a drift car!! Here is cool vid for getting the feel of a top fuel car's amazing power and it isn't even moving. Wait for a bit when the crewman go to hold the car down on it's jacks and they hammer the throttle. It is awesome! Here is a great sequence of record runs at Bonneville. You get a turbine, a fuel motor and an electric. What's great is the doppler effect combined with the motors. The sound quality isn't very good but it is still awesome.
  16. Here's my choice. BRM H-16. It combines the roar and the shriek in one. All these ferraris and Alfas are great and I dig them but listen to this...... Sends a tingle up your spine. My next favorite is a top fuel motor - hoo boy!
  17. My favorite thread of all time!!
  18. What an awesome build, dude! You are the best model car builder in the world!!!
  19. I would just be repeating what the previous guys said so I will just say that looking at this model brought a huge smile to my face! Very cool and very fun, Scott!
  20. It's Saturday night. Bob is drunk and posting! So are the rest of us!
  21. That looks great in that color and I love the stance!
  22. That is great! It really brings me back to the late 60s- early 70s. I loved those wild paint jobs back then. Your V-dub looks great!
  23. Thanks for the PM, Mr. Hearse. The warm feelings are mutual. Why did you respond to my post in the first place. You should put me on your ignore user list. You are on mine. Are you spoiling for a fight? This is straight copy of the PM sent to me by Mr. Hearse. I will let it speak for itself and the sender. Can't take criticism huh? But I do want to thank you for being such an asinine person... If you're so intelligent, why don't you go to your Mensa meeting, instead of posting things you know nothing about? Where do you get off saying ANYTHING about the way someone spells? The only "DUMB" thing I've seen in your post is you. You are such a conflict within yourself, that you don't know whether you are coming or going. And if you're so great at knowing contexts of sentences and vocabulary, you should be teaching at Harvard. Instead you're on a model car forum spewing vomit on anyone who disagrees with your opinion. You're the lowest form of life here. Your castings are a sham, and a total ripoff of other peoples work. You probably got no attention as a child, so you come here and piss on everyone. You really need to grow up, and stop blaming others for your loser life, D!CKHEAD! Actually my shrink thinks I am doing rather well. I have worked out a lot of issues. I am fairly happy. Thank you for your concern. Now I have to block your PMs! Oh well.
  24. Yes, it is a beautiful car!
