I have had real good luck with it and can recommend it. Easy to use, too.

Cool model of a very pretty car. MPC made those decals! I have a partial set in my decal hoard.

The effects of a supercharger won't be negated by not having the ram effect! Back in the 70s when they thought they were making about 1500 HP, they figured the blower used about 300 HP to run! There is a whole lot more power going into the air pump and cramming air/fuel mixture into the cylinders than the ram effect into a small opening, even at 200MPH! That is why supercharged cars make more power than unsupercharged cars!!!! As I said, it's a thing people tried, saw no benefit, and returned to the normal forward facing position. The fact that everyone changed back who tried it sort of negates your need to argue against it, doesn't it? Hmmmm.

Very fun and well done! I suppose it's only good for towing Subaru 360s!

I am not sure but it was just on supercharged cars which don't really need a ram effect. Maybe they were catching too many bugs. I did read that one dragster back then did catch a bird in his injector scoop! Ultimately it was just another thing that people tried but it didn't make any difference. John, I have articles on the Durachrome bug which I can scan and post if you want.

Cool! A machining flame war!!! I highly recommend looking for used equipment. I got my Unimat III over 20 years ago and it had everything for about $600. The only thing I didn't get with it was a collet holder and a set of collets. It has the mill attachment which is a mill/drill type of deal without a leadscrew z feed. It came with dividing head, cross feed, 3 and 4 jaw chucks, etc. It has served me really well but the lack of a z feed is really annoying. I have a leadscrew lathe with an eight position tool turret that I found on Ebay for $500. When I get my new garage done and get the lathe installed I will use it turn production parts for my kits like rims, hubs, etc. I missed out on a full size Groton mill that my own employer was auctioning. It went for $350.00!!! Eventually I will get a full size mill. people typically pay a lot for bridgeports but off brand stuff is usually just as good and a lot cheaper. There are auction sites out there that deal with industrial equipment. I would recommend checking them out. They are usually regional. Dave check out this unit.MAX NC I used a MAXNC a few years ago and it wasn't bad but the thing had aluminum ways! I don't know if they still do that. It was meant for machining wax parts which would be fine for styrene or modeling board but even machining aluminum would wear it out!

Cal, The prob with the mill/drill machines is that it will get frustrating controlling the Z axis after a while. I would go with the Sherline because it has a z feed with a leadscrew rather than a drill press handle. I hear you on the table size but I think the advantages of the Sherline outweigh the table size until you can get a Bridgeort EZ-Trak! Ya, right! those are $25,000+ new. I run a Cincinnatti CNC 20 x 40 at work and am supposed to finally get a CAM system this year. Oh Boy! There may be a few model car parts leaving the building in my lunchbox!

They were trying the backwards scoops for a little bit. I remember seeing this car at Minnesota dragways. This gas car was run by members of the Gopher State Timing Association and I believe they won a best appearing car award at the Indy Nationals.

We have a Harbor Freight retail store in Minneapolis so I can go look at the stuff first. Once when I was looking at a power washer, one of the employess warned me off of it!!! I said I only needed to use it a few times and the purchase price was almost the cost of a rental. He said it probably wouldn't even work once or twice!! I do get a few hand tools there that are a bargain and work pretty good - files, clamps, tape measures, etc. I would never buy their stuff sight unseen.

Oh, what the hey! Here is the Jo-Han I built a few years ago. What a great kit! I cut down the rear springs to get the ride height down a bit. I like painted wires. Injection molded wire wheels look better painted, in my opinion. The Jo-Han wires are better than almost anyone else's but I still like them better painted. I will be using them on my Heller Special roadster when I get that built.

I remember that car from the pages of Car Craft way back when ( '70 - duh!). That was an awesome car and your model is way, way cool. That paint is awesome, as is the fabrication and all the detailing. You can be proud of that one for sure. Thanks for showing us your work. -
We always called it Toledo when it was in Maumee. Calling it Toledo when in Sylvania is no different! I will be there after a 2 year absence. See all of you! If the "vehicles" have to have less than 4 wheels, will no wheels work??!!

Beautifully done! Your detail is excellent. The craftsmanship and cleanliness are very noticable. I like it.

FIAT is an acronym for Fabbrica Italiana Automobili Torino. Translated it would be something like Italian Automobile Manufacturing Company of Turin. Turin, of course, is a large industrial city in the north of Italy, sort of Italy's Detroit.

No worries, Harry. I already said my piece and I am not taking the bait! -
Very cool! It is nice to see someone who knows their subjects building the less well known types of drag cars. The slicks which are too small for Fuel cars look just right for gasoline cars!

Science is constantly evolving based on new evidence and perhaps we will discover that climate change is happening for some other reason. The best knowledge and the vast majority of scientific thought is in agreement at this point in time. Please find some citations that are in disagreemnt from any scientist not employed by petroleum companies. I am not aware of any. The "cooked" evidence was one small research project and they were just slanting their conclusions and not their data. It is beyond downright silly to think that thousands of climate scientists around the world are engaged in a vast conspiracy just to get their research projects funded! Sorry to have to disagree with all of you who don't believe that something is happening. Of course, time will tell. -
Best use of a Heller 540K I have seen! Those were in bad shape right out of the box!!! Seriously, that is a very cool project and your fabrication looks excellent.

Here is a photo from the Armistice Day Blizzard in Minnesota in 1940. Many lives were lost in this one. It was considered the worst in known Minnesota history. The bridge in the photo is still there. It's a pedestrian bridge linking 2 halves of a country club golf course on the westen edge of Minneapolis!! -

Two things. 1.) You call it Snowpocalypse, etc. Here in Minnesota, Wisc, Dakotas, etc we call it Tuesday! Just man up and start shoveling! 2.) Scientists now call it Climate CHANGE for a reason. The climates are changing rapidly. Cold areas are warming , warm areas are getting snow dumped on them some areas are suffering terrible droughts, some terrible downpours. All are wreaking havoc amongst the populations living there! Warming air puts more moisture in the air and when it hits cold air it dumps lots of snow! HMMMM! You guys are all experiencing one aspect of global "warming". You can make all the snide comments you like about Al Gore but he is right. -

I vote for the Paasche H series, It's a real workhorse and you can use differnt tips in it from very fine work to spraying down real wet paintjobs. I have been using it since 1980 and have shot many gallons of paint through it over the years. I replace the tips periodically but then I shoot a lot of paint!! I really like the thing. I would warn you away from the dual action unless you are going to do some serious graphics or camouflage patterns. -
Check out the new Indycar Concept

As all of these different race series turn into spec-car races, the interest I have continues to dissipate. I think Rahal said it all in the article when he said that there there is more room for sponsor billboards! The car doesn't particularly interest me but it doesn't turn me off, either. I am completely indifferent. I don't watch any Indy car racing as it is. This won't do anything to entice me back.
