My wife was born and raised in the U.P. If you call her a yooper she will flatten you with one look! She has an English and a law degree, too! The schools have not failed us. It's the parents not instilling a desire for education and knowledge in their kids. Some kids go on to great things from poor schools and some kids end up in the gutter from "good" schools. It's like blaming the car when you get caught driving drunk! -

is this car brown or burgandy?
Modelmartin replied to Nick Winter's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
You kidding me! That was the finest thing put out by Franco- American Motors!! A re-badged Renault...UUUUGGGGGHHHHH! They also badged one as a Dodge Monaco. It was bad enough when AMC peddled those things but Chrysler kept up the nonsense. No wonder they are bankrupt!! -

Nick, you need to stop painting a target on your back!! I won't take any shots at you because I don't do that but you do leave yourself wide open for ridicule at times. People were just having some fun here and I gather someone on this thread has taken some shots at you in the past. So what do you have for breakfast? -
Digging it very much! I really like historical builds like this. That is a model to be proud of.

Hardcore Scratchbuilding Question
Modelmartin replied to straightliner1's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
You're right, Sauber! Hang it up and buy some snap-tites!! I have done small brass body panels before but not a whole bodyshell. I will be climbing the learning curve on this one. I will be getting a micro torch and learn about silver soldering. Try the finishing thing, Dan.....you will like it!! -

For Breakfast? Interesting concept. It probably beats a typical English Breakfast! -
Hardcore Scratchbuilding Question

Very Funny, Himmel! They are some non-commercial guys who run circles around me - like you! If you finish anything! Below is a pic of what will hopefully be my GSL 2011 entry. It is called Twinwinder. The resin Austin coupe body will be remade in brass. The body will have a nose too. The twin Caddie motors will be blown. Aside from some of the engine and driveline pieces, it will all be scratchbuilt. I plan on doing my own wheels and tires, too. I say bring on the scratchbuilding. Even those who don't do it will enjoy seeing what others can do. It's like the Olympics- lots of people watch even though most do not participate. -

International Postage

I really have no issues with the USPS. I have been happy with the service and reliability. I ship a lot of stuff so I know the different rates and services. The flat rate business is a rip-off unless you are shipping something really heavy. Regular priority is not too bad a deal and when it is really light you just send it first class. You used to be able to send something to anywhere in the US for the same price but now they have "zones" so it costs more to send it to the other end of the country. Too much like UPS(who I despise) for my taste. I would recommend that anyone who mails stuff to get a rate list or go to USPS website and use the rate calculater. I have some good guys at my local P.O. but some places they are ignorant and lazy. I have had to instruct them at times!! It was too bad they quit sending surface mail for outside of the US. It was cheaper to mail to Canada that way than inside the USA!! Overseas is all airmail now. I know US postal rates are amongst the lowest in the developed world. When in Europe on vacation, my wife and I sent some postcards from Vienna --over $1.00 each---- Choke! and that was in 1995. Christian, I am a big fan of Brit slang. Loved your rant! But what is eclatant? Dictionary.com couldn't come up with that. Cheers. -

I thought it especially hilarious that he was complaining about boorish behavior. He won a gold medal in that category. He is a real "Diminutive of Richard" head!! If you really want to antagonize him just correct his spelling and grammar!

Who said he was reading it??? He was just looking at the pictures!

That's a fun truck. I assume the cab is 1/32?

Offended? Not possible. I am very happy to see any of my resin products built and especially when it is built well such as yours. It looks great. Steve Cote saw the Duece and wanted to build a Pro-Mod out of it. That would have been cool. I am building one of my own Bugzappers and am putting M&Ms markings on it!! So many model kits go unbuilt(and I am just as bad as anyone else) that it is a happy day when something is finished. Looking forward to seeing the streamliner!

That is one of my favorite FCs and you certainly did it justice. I like it very much. I saw in Gregg's pics that you had a LOT of models at the NNL West. They all looked great. By chance , were you the guy who built the Easy Riders streamliner? I need to see that close up. I did like your Duece coupe FC. I am a little prejudiced about that one!
