This looks like fun!

I would strap one on in a second! Too much fun. -
Wow! That is synchronicity! A bit out of my price range for display pieces, however.

And here is the '68 car! I am constantly amazed at what I find in my own collection of car mags! Both of these articles were in Rodder and Super/Stock. One in Sept 68 and the other in Nov 69. They look like they are from the same photo session!! Again, feel free to pm me to get the full size scans or go to my Fotki page and harvest whatever you want. This is fascinating! It looks like he stripped out his A/FX for parts to build the new one!! Imagine finding that hulk today!! Here is the Nov 69 article

Could that be the Monogram Snake/Mongoose kits? They had some nice spun aluminum looking Supertricks in them. I always liked the Monogram 66 Chevelle S/Ts. They looked real nice. They also put a real nice Motor Wheel "Fly" wheel in the awful 69 Camaro kit. -
OKey-dokey - I found one of the articles. here are some scans through Fotki. If you want the full scans just email me at modelmartin@comcast.net and I will send them. Enjoy! I thought there was a second article somewhere. I will look but no promises.

You would be correct. The variations of what everyone believes to be Bugatti blue are probably closer to each other than than variations of Ferrari Red - chiarro rosso! That covers Orange to Maroon! B&W photos are a nightmare trying to figure out colors. I have been surprised by the huge amount they can vary. Some colors looked dark and some lighter. I think B&W photo analysis is very unreliable. I have read that some Bugatti owners have found sections of original paint that were covered up by something and had that paint matched. At one point I mixed up my own batch of MY Bugatti blue which I am very pleased with. See my T59 in the Under Glass section. -
I know I have 2 different feature articles on the 66 car in my Wall O'Mags. If you want scans of them let me know and I can get them for you.

Actually.... Bugatti blue is different from "French" blue. The French blue can be like any other famous color - eleventy-twelve different hues out there. Bugatti blue is the same shade as a Gauloise cigarette pack. The legend is that Mademoiselle Bugatti would walk out to the factory and pull out her pack of smokes and make sure the color was right on all the factory race cars. Bugatti blue is pretty consistent, all things considered. French blue is darker than Bugatti blue. -

Visionary, my foot! David Piper painted his GTO green back in the 60s. He also raced a 917 in BRG, then yellow, then red! All were sponsored by Sandeman , a very lovely brand of Port wine from South Africa. I prefer the ruby. "Williams" won the '29 Monaco GP in a BRG Bugatti T35B. Here is a picture of said car modeled by my good friend and fellow RPM club member Bob Maderich. Of course a lot of this was in the day of national racing colors. Aside from the aforementioned BRG, French blue and red cars from IT-lee there were yellow cars from Belgium, orange from The Netherlands and white from Germany, White with blue stripes from the ol' USA. All countries that wanted them got their own national racing colors. Here is link to a list on Wikipedia. I like Egypt - pale violet! National Racing Colors -

Common color! Like BRG on a British car or Red on a Ferrari? I even see too many Bugattis that get painted "Gauloises" blue. I like mixing it up a bit. I even suggested a theme for one of our club events featuring non-traditional paint jobs on cars. The Garlits red car, BRG Bugattis, anything but red Ferraris, etc. -
I would not use a dremel. I would use several layers of masking tape to mark where your cut will be and slowly draw the back of your #11 blade or a razor saw along it with very light pressure until it starts to make a groove and then slowly increase pressure on the blade. You could support the windshield frame with several layers of masking tape also. Just put a big piece across the opening in front and one in back and it won't be going anywhere. The biggest thing is patience and slowly working whatever your cutting tool of choice will be. good luck.

I saw an SS100 at a concours in silver and it was beautiful! I have seen a number of them in red also. I am less enthusiastic about BRG on this car. -
Nicely done. Very clean and well-detailed. It is a superb build.

Here are some pics from GSL 21 2007. This is at the Museum. That is Art Anderson, Don Emmons in the middle, and Chas SCR on the right. Art is leaning on the Oakland Roadster show Diorama which in itself is worth seeing! Note the display of original Revell Parts Packs on the far wall. Some of Don Emmons models in a special display of his magazine work. Don talking to Steve Perry in front of his display and Joel Dirnberger showing off his bald spot. Miscreant youths in the bar at the Sheraton. Gregg and I having fun with cameras. That's me and my camera in his viewfinder! This is what it's all about! Mark Jones' Caterham and his haul of plaques. -

I have been to three GSLs - '81, '82, and '07!! It was so small in '81 that Mark picked me up at the airport!! In his customized Maverick!! With George Layton riding shotgun!! Ah! The memories! I heartily recommend to anyone who builds model cars to go! I will be back in '11 loaded for bear! I am competitive too but that isn't the important part. It is the people, the good times, the models. Here is the link to the GSL website. GSL Site My favorite memory from '07 was getting to meet Don Emmons and seeing all of his models from Model Car Science and Rod & Custom Models magazines. Don was the coolest and nicest guy with lots of really fun stories about his experiences with models and cars. The Museum was a genuine treat to see and hang out in. The entire experience is well worth the time and expense. I kicked myself for waiting 25 years to go back! I met Chas and 1320 Wayne and had an opportunity to drink some strange blue stuff in Gregg's hotel room. I passed. However, I still have those pics from the bar, Gregg!!! You remember - the SAE screensaver? GO! -
I had one of the Testors pro Street 'Cudas and I didn't find any P/E in it. Those pewter wheels were underwhelming to say the least.
