Cheating in Model Car Contests
Modelmartin replied to FloridaBoy's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
What is in the water down there in Florida? The way Ken describes it, it sounds like the Royal Court of Louis Quinze(15th) with all the intrigues going on. I have heard of and seen a few instances of cheating at contests AND NNLs. Yes, cheating at NNL events - displaying a model built by someone else with your name on it. Tsk! Tsk! For the most part all of the events I have attended in the last 30 years almost continuously have been , at worst, well intentioned and more typically, well run. The quality of judging is pretty variable. The quality of voting is pretty dodgy, too!! In all cases I think everyone was doing the best they knew how. All in all I have seen very little of what Ken describes. I think most of us go to contests and NNL events to hang out with like-minded people. Our hobby is pretty lonely. Not very many people do what we do and when we do it , it is a solitary pursuit. I always have a good time at a model show. When we want to go for the gold at a contest it is very advisable to know something about the contest. Who is running it and judging it? What type of builds or subjects do well at that contest? In other words you have to build for the particular contest if your intent is to win. Certain types of builds do better at IPMS shows. Certain types of builds do better at GSL, etc, etc. If you build what you like and bring it along you can't expect to win and that is fine. I do that all of the time. Once in a while I am surprised with a placing here and there and that is great. In conlusion, it sounds like model builders are a pretty typical cross-section of humanity. -
That looks real nice. It's hard to make a model car out of that Revell kit!!!!

How about when you go to spray mold release on a mold you are making and grab the can of spray adhesive instead. Don't laugh. -
YANKEES # 1 AGAIN!!!!!!
Modelmartin replied to cruz's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Holy crusty old farts, Batman! Poor Marcos posts his excitement at his favorite team winning and everyone jumps on the cr#p-wagon to bash whatever they are bashing today. Quit inflicting your pathologies on the rest of us on the forum. As far as this subject goes - I am a Twins and Yankees fan and even though the Twins lost to the Yankees I wished them well. I choose to see the sport that is hidden inside of the money and commercialism of most modern sports including racing! Behind all of the money, celebrity, and sports channels and talk shows, etc - there is still an athlete or team trying to do their best! -
Needin some advice

I second the motion. I have done it both ways and pressure is way, way better. I didn't understand it but tried it and was codswalloped by the results. That was back in '86 or so. Vacuum sucks. -

Sometimes too much information is not good because it includes the good info and the bad info. You have to sort it out. -
Can't imagine a Russian built Fiat surviving that jump in drivable condition!! Ouch! I love sitting down and watching Rally clips on Youtube. I love the vintage stuff. There was one of the Giro D'Italia tarmac rally from late 70s with a Porsche 935 with a rack of rally lights bolted to it tearing down the road. It was awesome.

Vacuum Sucks! I have said it before and I will say it many times. I started out in 1980 with a vacuum pump and tank and produced a lot of ######. A few years later I discovered the pressure casting technique that others were using. It was a 180 degree turn in quality! It is easier, too! I will bet you already have a compressor somewhere so you don't need to spend more money on a vacumm pump. You will need a paint pressure pot which you can get anywhere. I pump it up to 40 psi for both the mold making and the casting. It works really well and it is easy. If you want more info from me just send a PM. -
Are you going to build an 'A' Team Van for him? Pity the fool!

I build and annoy! and pour resin, and work on my new garage, and hold down a 40 hour a week job. Don't be a party pooper, man! -
Yea, you wouldn't want to slow down. That would break your momentum!!

\ Still have the Car Model mags with the How-tos!! That was/is an awesome model. At the time I tried to do the same thing with a VW bus. It wasn't pretty and did not see completion. I could probably handle it today. HMMMM!

How are you coming on the nomenclature for this beast? I like Bill's name. Muschallmaro GT/A-SS? You might get some driving this car.

Party Pooper!! Sorry, Dave! We are having fun. -
Fred has "officially" retired but he still reprints decals that he runs out of. He still fills orders that find their way to his P.O. box and he supplies several retailers. In other and plainer words, his decals are available . One needs to do a tiny bit of work to get them. The only way someone will get his screens, equipment and artwork will be at his estate sale! His parents lived to their late 80s so that will be a long time from now!!

I am assuming that his user name is supposed to be Bubba. He mispelled his own user-name!!! Now I have add another name to my ignore user list. -
And the really interesting thing is that it looks better than all 3 of the organ donors!!
