Posting photos... and taking the heat...
Modelmartin replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
To be politically correct on this thread one needs to criticize political correctness! When I see pics of a poorly built model posted I just don't say anything. I don't have time and don't see the point. I only comment in the positive when I see something I really enjoy or am impressed with. -
You have to remember Nick, that this forum is mainly inhabited by adult builders and sometimes it can be hard for someone younger to interact with older, serious builders, especially if you are looking for kudos for your builds. I think almost everyone will try to encourage you in your quest to build better models but you will be disappointed with us if you are looking to impress us. If you come to us for advice and encouragement, you will get that for sure. I well remember when I was building at your age and over-reaching for results and trying to build things that were over my head. I would never tell you to not do that. I say go for it - I did, and eventually (late teens, early twenties) I got a lot closer to where I wanted to be skill-wise. I am 52 now and I am still getting better! Keep at it and try not to get too mad when people criticise your builds. Vow to yourself that you will show those miserable geezers how to build!!! Then do it! Be cool!

I love that kawasaki-Fiat video! I WANT that car!!!! Here are 2 more cool one sif you haven't seen them already. This first is the coolest in-car I have seen. This one is a Hillclimb BMW E36 with a Judd V-8 engine going to 10,000 RPM. Another reason to emigrate....Hillclimb championships!! -
Kustom Kolor Kwestions, yeah, questions with a "Kw" was lame. At least you knew what you were doing, that's cool. Some people spell that badly without knowing that they are.

decided to turn a Hiace into a "El Hiace"
Modelmartin replied to Lownslow's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Good way to turn a bone into something cool. I like it. -
I think most model enamels are mild enough that they can be lightly brushed over acrylic paint. I wouldn't try more than just some light detail painting that way. I don't believe lacquer thinner in acrylic will work real well. I have seen it coagulate the paint. Use isopropyl alcohol(rubbing alcohol) for thinning acrylics. It's cheap and you can buy it at any pharmacy or retail store( Target, Wal-mart, Wag's, CVS, etc.) Lacquer thinner in enamel airbrushed on a model works beautifully. I have done that a few times.

Walter Cronkite passed away.
Modelmartin replied to dwc43's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
And did you guys know that Walter was a car guy? Yes. He was a sports car enthusiast and he participated in SCCA races and such. Here and there in the 50s he wrote a few articles in the car magazines. He is missed. -

And after we finish taking over the car companies and design econo-safety specials that you will be required by law to drive, we will take over the motorcycle, snowmobile and "personal watercraft" companies and put helmet interlocks in the ignition and force all operaters of said vehicles to wear head to toe kevlar safety gear and install safety cages on all vehicles. And then there are the speed limiters... I think 10 mph should do. Let's see..........what else can we take over and make safe and correct???? HMMMMMM. -
Very nice model. Don't sweat the details - at least you are aware of them and have the desire to do it correctly! Keep up the good work.

I second that motion! Who do you think you are, Mr. Cosmic Cadillac, comparing the president to Hitler? That is complete lunacy at any level. As much as I disapproved of almost everything Bush and Cheney and their ilk did, I would never compare them to Hitler. If you can't take the heat, quit your bitchin', put on your tin-foil hat, and leave the kitchen! We give Jairus a lot of heat and he can take it! Now , you will have to excuse me because I need some more time to make ultra-liberal conspiracy like plans to steal all your money and give it to homosexual atheist pornographers! who favor gun control and want to put safety(training) wheels on all Harleys! That is, after we round up all of the "true" Americans! With our black helicopters. -

I just checked in with my boys in the Obama administration and we are sending a black helicopter to pick you up. It should be there any minute. -

Modelmartin replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Do you? It cuts both ways. I am assuming that your complaints are about environmental and liberal "brainwashing". Everyone does it and all the time. The right wing does it, the center does it, the lunatic fringe on both sides does it, all religions especially do it!. Some people are brainwashed to buy American no matter what and some are brainwashed to buy a Prius to be green. Many buy a Harley to show how individualistic and independent they are . All are silly and mistaken. Most people are affected by "brainwashing" to one degree or another. It is a rare individual who is not affected by some sort of brainwashing even if it is rather mild. There is another word for brainwashing - it is called learning, although that is sort of a discriminating brainwashing. -

The marketplace! Remember that until maybe 1905 or so it wasn't certain whether gas, electric or steam would win out. -

Thank you. Sometimes I am sarcastic. I think I was trying to be both sarcastic and friendly at the same time - if that makes any sense. I am sure you are a nice guy but the hypocrites and enviro-dorks comments are poor taste in my book, no matter where they are directed. They elicit defensiveness. If you look back at all but my previous post in this thread you will see I was only commenting on the quality of the discussion and not on any "issues" here. That is why I chose to make some comments on the name calling. Sincerely now. Have a nice evening! -

Honda is already producing a Hydrogen fuel cell car....now! They will leapfrog GM....again. The Volt is probably too little, too late and they are betting their future on it. Toyota and Honda and probably Ford will have plug-ins like the Volt within a year of the Volt coming out. If the Volt fails in the marketplace then GM is doomed for sure. -

I just e-mailed Fred and will try to get the list for you. If you do get ahold of "old" decals just shoot a coat of crystal clear or brush on some liquid decal film. That will rejuvenate them just fine. -

You seem to have a very simple view of things and if I understand your screed, you are advocating violence against those you disagree with. Life is a little bit more complicated than the view you seem to be grasping. I have never given money to any environmental group. I have a job - as a machinist. I think Hybrids are NOT the way to go and I believe we MUST change our polluting ways otherwise we will further ruin the environment we live in. It is about our self interest. I haven't shoved anything down anyone's throat and I challenge you to tell me what has actually been shoved down your throat. Facts are notoriously flexible and some of your facts are going to be in conflict with some of my facts. That is what Henry Ford was talking about when he said " History is Bunk". My skin is plenty thick but my desire to engage in a battle of wits with an uninformed man is very low. Have a nice day!
