  1. I HOPE you're kidding me! You are, aren't you?
  2. That is pretty slick! Did you reinforce your display shelf? Now you know why most LSR collectors go for 1/43rd. Even in that scale they can get big. I almost got a hernia building a Thrust II in white metal. The real Spirit of America is at Chicago's Museum of Science and Industry. It is a beast but it has a certain gracefulness to it. It is worth going to see.
  3. For sentiment, my first car - a '63 Buick Riviera in silver with blue interior. For fantasy purposes: Bugatti T57SC Atlantic Lambo Miura Phantom Corsair 1910-12 Olds Limited 600 CID six cylinder, 43 inch wheels. It's a road locomotive. That's why they named it after a train! 1907-09 American Underslung Traveler This was the Veyron of it's day. Well we can dream can't we! Wait, it said favorite car of all time - not the one we can actually own!
  4. and possibly to learn to spell? Use grammar? Word usage?
  5. Did you know that 100 out of 7 people are dyslexic? My dyslexic friend Bob told me that factoid. He is always spelling his name backwards, too. Here's one of my favorite jokes with a European influence. What is the difference between heaven and hell? In heaven the Italians are the lovers, the French are the cooks, the Germans are the engineers , and the English are the diplomats. In hell the Italians are the diplomats , the French are the engineers, the Germans are the lovers, and the English are the cooks.
  6. I have to shake my head at all the "retro" cars. Let's move forward and look ahead. I don't mind some family resemblance in car lines but some of this is ridiculous. The Mustang and Corvette have kept the family resemblamce going without looking too far backward. Now that the Challengers are out on the street I think they are a joke! The Camaros look a little better but why bother? If I had the dough I wouldn't buy any of them. I would rather get a 500+ horse Audi with all wheel drive. It will smoke all but the Vette! In the meantime I will still hope my 93 Protege with 195,000 miles on it still starts to take me to my job which I hope is still there each day!
  7. Very cool, Art. Did you drill all of the holes before attaching the rods? Did you wear out your dividing head? Will you be doing the rest of the car?
  8. Harry, who cares where the gas cap is...........as long as every car has it in the same location. Seriously though, I am so used to it being on the driver's side at this point. I loved the 50s and 60s cars - who knew where the gas filler was? Behind a tailight? Under the license plate? Secret panel? I worked at a couple of gas stations in the 70s and once in a while we would be perplexed. Bob, a friend of mine has a 1921 Citroen touring car which has the clutch pedal in the middle. Maybe your wife would like to drive it?
  9. Scott, I would check with Norm Veber at Replicas and Miniatures of Maryland. They look like his stuff(tightly packed on the sheet).
  10. It is likely just styrene foam which is what your models are made of. It is inert in its present form. Don't burn any of it because the fumes it gives off are very nasty including cyanide I believe.
  11. This is hilarious!! Smart Monster
  12. Hey Steve, I always use Solvaset. It is stronger and it comes with a brush in the cap! I usually get it at Scale Model Supplies but Hub may have it.
  13. Heller kits are all over the map. There is no consistency to the quality and kit engineering. The older ones(pre 75 or so) are easier to build but are quite inaccurate in the details. Some are virtually unbuildable like the 917 and Mercedes 540 K. Some go together much better like the Bugatti. If there is a kit from the Japanese of the same car - get the Japanese kit! ALL Heller kits are for the brave and skilled builder.
  14. I did some of this a number of years ago. The silicone is a high temp formulation so it can handle low temp metals. How well they turn out is up to the person who makes the mold. If you can lay it out and sprue and gate it correctly it is no big deal. I found it to be pretty easy to do. There are many many alloys available and some are stiff and unbendable and some bend all day long without workhardening and breaking. Give it a go!
  15. One suggestio. The running boards on the black coupe are closer to the ground. If you can get those running boards on your model closer to the ground it will make the whole model click!
  16. Cool model and nice build. Totip is the Italian lottery! I want to see a Powerball sponsored car in the US!
  17. Glueing doors open is a "save" for doors that don't fit!!
  18. Meds? Coo-coo for cocoa puffs!! Others made some good points. I think GM and Chrysler have failed mostly in managing a good product line. When I went with my then 79 year old mother while she was buying a new Scion Xb 3 years ago, I marveled at all of the very nicely built and thoughtfully designed and attractive cars for every category that Toyota had in their showroom. They had economy cars, luxury cars, sporty cars, vans, trucks, SUVs, Crossovers, etc, etc and they are all well engineered, long lasting, trouble-free vehicles. They have Prius' and gashogs!! I find it interesting that last year, for the very first time, Toyota lost money. I forgot the amount but it wasn't comparable to US automaker losses. It is too bad that we are losing some historical car marques. GM was founded with Buick and Oldsmobile. Maybe they can drop all of the current nameplates and call them Generals or Durants after the founder who was ousted twice. They will likely end up with just Chevrolet and Cadillac and that would be sensible. Maybe then they could rationalize their product line. I was a Chevy guy in my youth and find it sad to see the current state of affairs. A retro Camaro won't save them. Forget retro! Who has the most retro cars? Chrysler does and look what sad shape they are in. I don't think a retro Fiat will save Chrysler either.
  19. Beautiful job on the coupe. I love seeing non-red Ferraris! AMR kits are deserving of their reputation. They build so well and look so good. Their vac-form windows fit like a glove compared to most other kits. It has been a long time since I built one. Mr. Ruf has done kits for a number of other outfits. I recently built a Pirahna kits Mini ACV 30 which he mastered. I hope to acquire a Pirahna Rover Mini - It has engine detail - in 1/43rd!!!
  20. The car is definitely mid 60s configuration but the paint is late 60s - early/mid 70s. Very fun and good looking build.
  21. Renaults don't sell here but are big sellers in the rest of the world. To me the biggest waste of tool steel and styrene are the non-replica showrods. Daniel's stuff I can see but Jolly Rodger? L'il Stogie? WTF!!!
  22. Very nice! You can't display an IMC GT-40 open and closed like yours! I assume that the Aurora kit fits together beter then the IMC.
  23. When on earth will anyone do this! Resin, plastic - I don't care! I want it! I want it! I want it! I want it! I want it! For those unfortunate enough to not know this car yet, it is a 36-38 Bugatti T57SC Atlantic coupe. Only 3 of this body were built and only about 75 of the chassis were made.
  24. Is that a swamp buggy? Sure looks like one.
