Tom Setzer replied to Hamar's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Hal Welcome to the FORUM! I thought you might have some figure painting back ground, I have painted all types of Military Figures and vehicles over the last 55years! My Grand Father taught me to paint figures when I was about 7 or 8 years old! -
What is your ideal hobby room(man cave)
Tom Setzer replied to martinfan5's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
This is the room where my Slot Car Track was before the fire! I' m going to miss that Track, and all the races we held on it, but I'm not up to another 5 years to rebuild it! Forgive the sloppy drawing please, but I didn't have a straight edge, when I did it ,and it is only meant to be a guide to let the contracters know how I want it aranged. If anyone has any ideas on how to improve it just say so. ThThis will be built when our house is rebuilt.the floor will be pale grey tile, the walls white semi gloss enamel, atleast two four plug in electrical outlet on each walll, the ceiling will be satin white enamel with plenty of daylighting to make the room nice and bright for working! I would also like to have a small sink, but i have to wait and see if the contracter thinks it can be done without busting the budget for the build! The bulge in the center of the shelves Just above this should say microwave. There will be a small 4 cup coffee maker right beside it. I will have a small floor standing refrigerater right beside the hallway wall for drinks and snackes. Also there will be a small square refrigerater for storing glues and resins to extend their shelf life! -
If I'm lucky I hope to get a couple of hours each day!

the one that got away.....
Tom Setzer replied to tubbs's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
In 2005 that SS in good running condition, with nice clean paint and interior, was worth between $10,000 and $12,000! If it was a Belair Bubble top 409, Duel Quad,Four speed, it woulb have been worth over $20,000! -

Tom Setzer replied to tubbs's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
When I went home to Lenoir on Leave in 1967, I saw a Beautiful Black on Black Bubble Top 409 ! When I went check it out and buy it, it was gone! The Salesman told me that it only had 8000 miles on it which ment that they had priced it a little hi at $1,600! I would have a lot more for it! -
Nice Groupe of Models! I HOPE YOU DO VERY WELL!

The very Best Resin parts supplier is Replicas and Minitures of Maryland, I have done Buiness with Norm for year without a single problem. For Bodies and full Resin Kits you can't beat. For Bodies Missing Link is good. I'm not going to bash any source, but there are several I will nolonger do buisness with!

Where did you build when you were a kid
Tom Setzer replied to eizzle's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
When I was a kid, I had a 24'x43' Hobby area on the 3rd floor of my Grandparent's house, where I had a large model Railroad, that my Grandfather helped me build. In that room I also had a 12' x 30" work bench built of white Oak, with the work counter boards fitted so tightly threr were no cracks between them, that always amazed me because that work bench was over 40 years old when I first saw it. I also had a spray booth with exaust to the out side that my Great Uncle Sam built for me. I have never had it that good as an adult! -
Great Start, I Like It, and will keep watching the build!

retro and rat rods, just dont get it.......
Tom Setzer replied to tubbs's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I build Retro Hot Rods, Gow Jobs, Dry Lakes Cars from the Thirties, Salt Flats Cars, Drag Racers, Midgets, Sprints (both Winged and Wingless),Street Rods, and Muscle Cars, Old Rusty Trucks, etc. But I have not built a Rat Rod so far, but that doesn't mean that I never will! -
I would say that mine are these: Revell: 32 Ford Five Window Coupe, It is just such a Great Foundation for Kit Bashing and conversions that I have gone through seven of them and I have plans for six more! 29 Ford Pick-up (Rat Rod)kits, I have already built 5 of them with Modifications, and one very Weathered and detailed Stock Closed Cab. I also had four more that had been used as parts donners. 1950 F1 Pickup I have Built 4 of these, one as the center piece for a Garage in an old two car Garage being used to build a Hot Rod. The F1 was weathered with somethings I learned from Virgil that made the work easier and look more realistic! AMT: 50 Chev. 3100 Pick-up, I have built 4 of this kit. One a Customised Chopped Three Window, using The Great Resin Conversion Body from R&M O M! and several other after market parts. The others have all been weathered and detailed stockers! Tow trucks and Shop Trucks! 29 Model A Roadster kits five, two 30's GOW Jobs, and three AV8s( one with an early 50's HEMI, the other two with Flathead V8) 32 Ford Trophy series, I truelly can't remember just how mny of these I have built over the years since I built my first one in the early 60's! They were the first realistic looking 32's as far as I know!

I Don't know if it's poeple feel that I'm trying to take over their thread,s as an e-mail I got from one of the Forum members, but if that is what is happening, II Apoligize , Because that is Far From what I want to doI I have been trying to share things I Know with everyone, but I Never wanted to Try to act like I Knew more than everyone else! I have learned a lot from you guys over the the years I have been on this Forum! To get back on Topic! My list would be as follows: 1: the 671/2 Camaro RS/SS Z28 it had a great look combinning element from the Great Sports Racers of the 50's and early 60's with it's own agressive styling and feel. That 302ci engine was a high reving marvel with a sound like no other, and suprise It actually handled great on curves! 2: The 63 split window, That devider was actually there to give the car more stiffness so they didn't have to have a heavier frame, to save weight for the racers. The 63 also had an independant rear suspenion! 3:The 61 Impala SS409 I loved the Look of that Bubble Top. The Wrote Songs about It! 4: The 63 Riv. 5: The 69 Camaro RS/SS Z28, a great looking car and the last of the true Z28's Bu like others have said this list is just my opinion and other people have their own that are just as Valid as mine! -
I went to Hobby World to buy some paint and a bottle of TENAX 7R, and ended up also buying a Revell 50 Ford Fi Pick up, a Revell 31 Model A Sedan Rat Rod, an AMT 25 Ford Model T Chopped Double kit, And a Revell U.S.F. United States ( One of The Big Frigates ). My Wife Wants the Frigate when I finish it for the Family Room! I just hope she realizes how long it is going to take to build!

I Love to slow smoke boneless Pok Roasts that I have Marinated with thinned down Mustard based BBQ sauce that I make myself from a resiepy I learned from my Aun't who did the BBQ at her BBQ Cafe in North Carolina that was the most popular in the area. I marinad it for three hours, and then slow smoke it for 10 hours turning it every hour and Baisting with more of the same sauce. I use only Hickory for my fire, and the end result is a BBQed Roast with a nice charred outside and the main part of the meat that will melt in your mouth while filling your taste buds with the most delishues BBQ Flavor! I also make my own baked beans with chunches of BBQ made earlier an save for the purpose. and Old Number 7 added to the sauce. I cook them in a large crock set on the back of The Smokers Grill. My Wife makes the best Southern Style Cole Slaw I have ever tasted And we make Texas Toast to go with it! I also make true Mexsican slow cooked Chile and all kinds of Mexican food from Cheese enchilatas to TexMex Fajitos, and fried plantains, I even make my own Tortillas.
