-
Sorry for slowing down,,,i got side tracked but will post more this week

I am probably wrong but I am saying model,,,,,,,,just becasue it looks too real and the staging is too perfect like a studio shot of a real car,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,maybe it is real but I will stay with model

Spent yesterday casting up some more parts for the K3 series. Have the firewall, grill shell, and fuel tank done. Still a long ways to go..I have not done much else since I was cleaning up the yard most of the day the grill shell needs some clean up and is probably the hardest piece to cast in a 1 part mold....I may have exceeded the limits of what one can cast without a 2 part mold, which the shell should be.......the tanks are semi hollow on the back side.... Thanks for veiwing and comments and suggestions are welcome.........

Bodies came in this afternoon from MG......3 K3 bare bodies that are way ahead of schedual,,,,,,,maddening but we have to deal with it,,,,,,that overhead crane hase not even been installed and we have just got 1 frame set up but it is not ready for the bodies and there is also a lot of work to do on the bodies too,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,oh well...
-
The shop still is not set up and the canterary crane is not installed but MG saw fit to ship 3 bare bodies to thee shop....so now all they do is take up space,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, thanks to all those following along with my builds ................one day they will get all done

now I can do the K3 fenders by the crate,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, got a decent mold for them

Thank you Skip I have not done any bodies yet.....so far just one peice molds.....the engine is one piece split mold and it is not solid..i.e. i just swirled it around the mold so it is semi hollow inside.....I am not sure about 2 piece molds for bodies yet although I have some I would like to do................. It takes time to get a good casting of molds that are that are that details since there is a lot of undercuts....wrap cuts......interior splits,,,ect..everything they tell you NOT to do you have to work fast to make sure every area is filled and be very carefull extracting the final part so you dont destroy the mold....I may be able to get 6 to 10 good casts from the mold. If you follow the link below to my diorama (sp) build the assembled engine is in the background.

For the scale the Legos look like concrete block when painted and fit in with any era of cars Since they build race cars here they need to have a frame table so they can refit the chassis with racing gear,,,,the stuff at the factory just is not strong enuff for the riggers of the road races...... Bill and Richard spent the weekend welding up a table just for this purpose out of some I beam, pipe and flat bars the found in a back corner,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Here it is in the chassis bay You can see some of the frame rails and spring assemblies in place and one of the K3 racing engines in the back ground,,,,These are all shipped in from MG and reworked in the shop.....(everything on the K3's is cast resin since I am making 3 cars and parts bins for the subassemblies.....which means some things will be cast 5 to 10 times...)

1933 MG K3 CAST ENGINES FOR THE RACING TEAM i SPENT THIS AFTERNOON PLAYING WITH CASTING THE ENGINE BLOCKS THERE IS MORE WORK BEFORE THEY ARE READY BUT NOW GETTING THE HANG OF IT They are very complicated and even has a free floating bar on the right hand part to drive the generator,,,,, have made some adjustments to the mold to get consistent and better castings...,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Thank you for the comments, They are appreciated,,,,,thanks for the comment on the colour,,,,I WAS NOT SURE but needed to go a different colour than the green.................... I ahould have the exterior more omplete and bas coloured this next week,,,,,,,working on the mercedes,,,,fords,,,and diorama ,,,have some great things I am working on coming up in the future,,,,another very long build..... casting in colour....................

Casting of wheels that will be used with the wires.....they are cast black so they dont need to be painted...................
-
Colour check on proposed colours
-
this is a simple flat casting,,,the tire is the same half cast 2 timre and glued together,,,,,,the backs have been flat sanded for a better fit. The rims are a 3 part cast for the layered lacing on the wire wheels.the center is still a one off untill I learn how to cast a decent hub that works,,,, note,,the car is of course scratchbuilt
-
Do you know of a set of accurate drawings for this that I can work from....................................
-
I may have to do one of these in a larger scale...................................it looks like it could be a great build.....in plastic of course,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, The kit does not do this car justice................thanks for all the information on this..............................I almost bought the 1/16th scake 35 mercedes today..........but resisted,,,,,,$80...........

Thanks to all those commenting and watching,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,tomorrow I am going to post piccys of the tires and hood in the correct colours for your approval.....................they are in the paint dryer over night so I dont get piddy prints on them,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,like I normally do.... The body is progrssing and ready for final primer and will post piccys of that sonetime in the next day or so,,,,,Painting takes a long time since I try to leave it dry 2 or 3 days between colours
-
Skip ,,,Thanks for the addtional photos,,,,,,I see mine is totally wrong oh well.................... Enter the mold for the tires, rims and spindles.................a carefully constructed mold out of legos,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, This highly accurate well engineered mold will hold up for about 10 sets of tires,,,,unless it brakes first,,,,,so now I have to make 10 of these I also picked up some black dye for the resin so I can pour the tires the right color and not have to paint them,,,,,,if things go right,,,,,,,I think they will look better if they dont need tobe painted, The mold will be dry in about 4 hours,,,,,,,,,if i mixed it close to right,,,otherwise I will have a mess on my hands, The first pull should be good...I have to make 2 pours for each tire,,,,inner and outter tire,,,,rings,,,,and hub,,,,,,,,,we will see The frame and chassis will be black,,,,,I know they are suppose to be white since that is the way the factory did it,,,,,,,but the white does not match the photo(drawing) I am using, The running boards are going to be hand made since those in the kit are gaud awfull..................the sanded wires took a lot of time and looked ok,,,for most people they probably would go with them but nothing beats real laced wires..........................

Qyuickie time.....I am taking a break from other things right now for a quickie. Yes a kit.....................................modified. I am starting with a Lindberg 1929 Mercedes SSK and changing the body.but not changing the fenders I want to get this colour and feel I filled in the door and raised the boot a bit and now making to top....... and added the beading to the body and hood. I am using real wires in place of the ones with the kit since I felt the were way too gaudy.....so I cot out the center and the hub which will use the ring and hub and tire to make castings to make real wires from......white walls get the ax.... [/url Colours will be as they are in the drawing , black , deep burgany,,,,and gold.
