  1. This has been described as a general problem with UV curing plastics. The oxygen in air inhibits curing of the surface, one way to avoid it is curing the parts in a UV permeable fluid like glycerine. Putting the parts in direct sunlight for a prolonged time should help too.
  2. Check for pricing here: https://www.modelbuilderswh.com/collections/engine-kits/products/ford-427-cobra-lemans-engine-kit-1-24th-scale
  3. Thanks Bill. Would be great to see an engine build from you! About the cammer - let's say I'm on it
  4. Hello everyone, back to the roots now, with a flathead. After searching for intake options I fell in love with that gothic Thickstun cleaner, so here it is in 1/24. As usual, no attention to color, wiring etc, simply made of printed parts with no finish other than an overall thin layer of silver. Parts are: block, pulleys combined, alternator, two Stromberg carbs, breather, air cleaner, two valve covers, two headers. Many thanks to Tony for his great work on this engine. Enjoy and thanks for looking!
  5. Hello everyone, here's a variation of my big block Ford, the 427 with double Holleys, Cobra air cleaner and Cobra - Le Mans covers. Ever since seeing the GT500 in the "Gunsmith Cats" manga I always wanted to build that machine. Thanks to DeAgostini I might actually do it one day, and of course it needs a better engine then. So here it is in 1/24 for starters, as usual, no attention to color, wiring etc, simply made of printed parts with no finish other than an overall thin layer of silver. Parts are: block, pulleys combined, distributor, two Holleys, air cleaner, two valve covers, two breather caps. Enjoy and thanks for looking!
  6. Guess it was right not to print that stuff, I would have never got to see that great work of yours.
  7. Yup, got it here as a reprint https://www.autobooks-aerobooks.com/product/ford-competitioin-engine/ Some guy had an original one on ebay for 300 bucks...
  8. Seems like there's a new business opportunity for the after-market guys The ignition wires I used are 1,0mm ones. For paint I like to use Alclad flat alu over spraycan flat black. To achieve different looking parts I apply a very light layer of different Citadel acrylics, mostly green/gray tones. The dark parts are Citadel Skavenblight Dinge, kinda like slate. At the end a light black oil paint washing.
  9. Sorry for the late answer - I used a 2mm rod for the cross bar and a 2mm Tamiya fuel line. Here you can find nice big pics for color reference: richardphotography.smugmug.com/The-Revs-Institute
  10. Nuuu problem... that fuel system is quite complicated, took me some time to understand it.
  11. Those headers were the thing that made me want to build this engine. Got to love hot vees. Maybe I should start a collection ?
  12. Hello Andrew, guess it's time to answer some questions! But first, thank you for the kind words and the many photos. That comparison to cast parts really shows the potential of a printer. About the sticky surface problem: The parts have been cleaned in an ultrasonic bath with isopropyl alcohol, after that cured in a UV chamber. Sometimes the curing is inhibited in some places, maybe my UV is not as good since it's no professional unit. I try to put the prints in sunlight for a few days which helps too, maybe sandblast them a little for paint preparation. But I never had problems painting printed parts, mostly I use standard automotive flat black spray cans for priming. About the throttle linkage: I really thought hard about providing one with the parts, believe me. I printed one for my prototype build as you've observed correctly, the machine printed about 90% of it and I broke it only three times while cleanup and installing... in addition to that I would have to make another platform filled with linkages to add to the parts, which would've raised the price per kit quite considerably. So I decided against it. Would be great if you made one of brass though! About the header tabs: sometimes the part allows them, see my Boss engine. Here the header package orientation on the build platform would have meant supporting those tabs with struts, and it would have been a real hassle to clean them without breaking, so I decided against them. I'd suggest tin foil for trying to make them. Can't wait to see how you paint those! Here's another pic of my prototype.
  13. I knew it! That's my handwriting on the left Hope you like the engines, have fun building them!
  14. Muahaha! (evil laugh) You ain't seen nothing yet! Guess you're talking about the hot-vee engine So you were the one who ordered the 1/25 version? Have fun building! And please post lots of pics!
  15. Rex, thanks for the pics! Finally I get to see some of those painted. Bill, thanks for the kind words! Do you have build any of the engines yet? I'd love to see pics! If anyone of you guys who bought some of those engines has any issues with it, please tell me so that I can make it better next time.
  16. Hello everyone, new engines are currently on their way to Model Builder's Warehouse - they should be somewhere above the atlantic right now. In addition to the sold out ones Randy already had on offer there's going to be the Boss 494 engine plus another version of the sbf 289, this time with a Holley.
  17. Hello everyone, the first small batch of Boss engines is on its way to the Model Builder's Warehouse. Would be great if you got yourself one and present the build here on the forum!
  18. Everyone, thanks for the kind words. @beeRS: I just cut the support struts off and painted the parts. No further cleanup whatsoever. @peteski: it's made of several parts: block, gearbox, exhaust system, intake plate with stacks, pulleys, distributor, starter with bellhousing spacer. If you look closely you will see gaps between the parts. The problem with kits in too many pieces is the space they take up on the machine and the cleaning effort. That's why I like to print the block with heads and covers on.
  19. Alright you convinced me - I'll look into producing the Can Am version and make it available at Model Builder's Warehouse. Just gimme some time.
  20. Thanks for the kind words everyone! Gramps, thanks for the photo, in color too! Wish I had been there to see and hear those run. About selling copies: I guess since this is a very special engine a stock version (single Holley?) would be of more use to you guys? I would suggest a "block only" version, without headers and gearbox, that would keep pricing much lower too. What do you all think? And if you have any pics of the engine out of the car please show 'em!
  21. Hello everyone, can't seem to find the time doing 1/8 work, so here's another one of my 1/24 engines. As usual, no attention to color, wiring etc, simply made of printed parts with no finish other than an overall thin layer of silver. It's a real beast this one, the only time Ford tried to win something in the Can-Am using it in the G7A with Andretti driving. He said he couldn't reach forward to shift when the torque came on. If you notice any mistakes I'd be glad if you tell me since the 1/8 version is still in the builds. I need all the input I can get since pics of those engines, especially of the front and underside are really rare. I did the entire 3D modelling myself this time, only having some block drawings from a nice guy on a forum and some photos. Was a blast, especially those "knuckle" rocker covers! Hope you enjoy it too! Thanks for looking!
  22. Hello, just wanted to thank you for buying not one but two of my GT40 engines. Especially when you had to pay the higher price due to shipping etc. You're right about this engine being used widely in racing, you can get a 4-Weber version from Model Builder's Warehouse now and I'm planning for a Holley one. I'm really sorry for not adding instructions for assembling the headers, it's really a tricky thing but can be done:
  23. Not to push you over the edge, but Hachette is currently teasing a 917K in 1/8... However, the GT40 seems to be lacking when it comes to detail. It would be a shame if they mess up or oversimplify the engine. And I heard someone say the overall shapes are off... I'm just glad I got my 1/8 GT40 all built under glass ?
