  1. very nice!. If you don't mind me asking, what does something like this sell for?
  2. Hot Wheels Foundation 1:18 donor model. - Full aero package home cast in resin - MAchined aluminum wheels with resin centers - Bianco Fuji tri-coat PPG Ferrari paint - Detailed interior in red with flocking - Carbon fiber trim throughout the interior - Carbon fiber rear panel
  3. I am currently waiting for the silicone to set on the seats moldings. Meanwhile I sourced some nice Challenge wheels from another model.
  4. Thank you guys. Not going crazy with this one. Just making it look like a nice looking display model. This is what the engine molding looked like And this is after just some paint and ignition wires.
  5. So I picked up this old beat up Ferrari from Hotwheels and decided to make it do justice to the real car. The first thing I addressed was the interior. It was molded in some sort of ugly grey and everything was awfully glued together. It took quite a bit of muscle to pray it all apart. Interior was washed, painted and then flocked. Details were added and wrapped in BMF. Seats were some sort of gooey rubber in ugly two tone grey. I decided to also turn them into Daytona style seats. So 72 strips of styrene were measured, cut and their edges were rounded. Then they got arranged on top of the seat centers. Then I drilled 92 holes into the strips. Now I will have to clean them up a little and make beautiful molds from them, so I can reproduce them in resin. The main reason for this is that this rubber material is impossible to paint properly.

  10. Great model. Great detail. It is really a very well executed miniature. However, I would like to point out few details in the history of the car. It was NOT the first mid engined Ferrari. Mrs Ferrari did not get mad because of the walk out. The walk out was triggered by Mrs Ferrari's attitude. The workers asked she don't come to the factory and bug them or they leave. Enzo stuck with his wife and off they went. It you want this model to represent Phil Hill's car at Monza, there needs to be an intake added on the nose and the side panels on each side of the engine should not be there. The clear covers over the intakes in the rear were used in rain. Monza was dry and they should be metal wire mesh in red.
  11. I love it when people have no clue about a person to judge him and put labels. Want a response? Here goes it. I admire the initiative and definitely applaud the enthusiasm to take on an event that can only benefit the hobby. A great idea, very poorly executed and not that very well thought out. Yes, I know, I am not being very PC, but I call'em as I see'em. Besides, the only reason going into this response is to try to point out few things, so hopefully the great idea can be approved upon. There is no rule when to make a contest. You can make one on a Tuesday if you want. Also you can do the registration from 4 to 8am if you want. There is common sense tho. People work, have families and don't always live next door to the event. What do I mean? My kid absolutely wanted to enter a big show. So I promised him, I'll take him. I drove almost 900 miles to the Heartland Nationals. But their registration was 'till 7pm and the show the next day. Doable and worth it. Looking forward to next year. I understand that this could not be done in this particular case, but still, some flexability could be allowed. A lot of people live hours away from Aurora. So I need to get up with my kids at 6am (given I'm not working) so I can register on time? Here is the funny thing. I had to drive my dad to the airport saturday morning, so I slept in Denver. After the airport I visited Aurora and I actually witnessed your contest. I also witnessed exactly what I expected. Bunch of people absolutely clueless about model building voting for whatever their 1:1 make is. I also witnessed kids, mine included, who did not care at all about models when outside were hundreds of cool real cars. Witnessed a lot more people in the Hobby shop (where your contest should have really been located, instead in that dark empty room) than at the contest. Witnessed a guy casting four votes with his family under his instructions for a model that would never even make it into the table at a big show, because it is what he would like to build in real life. Witnessed the whole three vendors in there selling hot wheels, one of which explained to me why should I pay for a set about three times what it goes for because it was a hobby shop edition some ten years ago. And I can keep going….. I am saying these things, not because I want to put you down or trash the good you tried to do. I am writing it to point out some general mistakes that could be foreseen with simple common sense. You need to make it at a convenient time to attract more people participating at a convenient place (bigger exposure). And mixing it with a huge outdoor show that is scattered over multiple locations in a large area is a big mistake. I expect now people to jump on my throat and the name calling to begin. That's fine with me. It is just my honest opinion. I hope the initiative will continue next year and I would love to see it grow. All the best.

  15. Beatiful paint and very clean build! But, with these wheels it is sitting unrealistically high off the ground. Plus you should have modded the wheels as there never was and there will never be a LaFerrari with five lug hubs.
  16. I think it is pure awesome. Love the color combo.
  17. This is silly. A show on a Saturday morning with registration over by 11am……… what happened to shows being on Sundays?

Thank you guys. The body is an old Jimmy Flintstone resin molding.

It is pretty much done. The crazy thing is that the model was built in about four days - start to finish. Over a year ago there was some sort of challenge on this very forum for a weekend build. That is what started the project based on a Jimmy Flintstone resin body. Most of the work was done within the weekend, but I did not manage to finish it on time. Then the model sat in a box until today (yesterday by now lol). Right now is 2am and I am done. So total of three or four working days and lots of Coca Cola.

Thank you guys for the kind words. Here is the motor. It is a big block Ford from some Mustang kit I had laying around the garage.

Thank you guys. The frame is a modified Phantom Vicky with a Revell front crossmember. The revell front suspension with photo etched 3 pc rotors and Aluma Coupe calipers. The rear is the quickchange from the Red Baron and the rest of the axle is scratchbuilt. The bottom rods are aluminum tubing with brass rod inside and the top triangulating arms are made from Revell's 32 front radius rods (just the upper half) Here is the interior. Phantom Vicky mostly, with a lot of photoetch. The shifter is a pin with the pinhead painted like an eyeball.

Yes, the tires are from the Willys, but they are not slicks.
  23. Great work. As for the top, what I found to work best is the patches you can buy from almost any store like Target or Wallmart, that are used to repair rips in umbrellas and back packs. They are vinyl, thin and self adhesive. This is what I use on my convertibles.

In 2011, after almost 10 years away from the hobby I went to the Heartland Nationals to see what have I missed. As I entered the hall, there was a gentleman in front of me with a white T-shirt with a huge orange '32 Vicky on the back. The Hot rod was a drowing shown from behind, fenderless, with fat tires, exhaust hanging out the sides and a big motor. The minute I saw it I said to myself "I have to build one like that". So here it is.
  25. Thank you all for the great comments. To answer the last question, I just need to put the handle on the rear doors (you can see the hole on the last picture), a side view mirror, give it a nice final polish and it's done.
