It is pretty much done. The crazy thing is that the model was built in about four days - start to finish. Over a year ago there was some sort of challenge on this very forum for a weekend build. That is what started the project based on a Jimmy Flintstone resin body. Most of the work was done within the weekend, but I did not manage to finish it on time. Then the model sat in a box until today (yesterday by now lol). Right now is 2am and I am done. So total of three or four working days and lots of Coca Cola.

Thank you guys for the kind words. Here is the motor. It is a big block Ford from some Mustang kit I had laying around the garage.

Thank you guys. The frame is a modified Phantom Vicky with a Revell front crossmember. The revell front suspension with photo etched 3 pc rotors and Aluma Coupe calipers. The rear is the quickchange from the Red Baron and the rest of the axle is scratchbuilt. The bottom rods are aluminum tubing with brass rod inside and the top triangulating arms are made from Revell's 32 front radius rods (just the upper half) Here is the interior. Phantom Vicky mostly, with a lot of photoetch. The shifter is a pin with the pinhead painted like an eyeball.

Yes, the tires are from the Willys, but they are not slicks.
  5. Great work. As for the top, what I found to work best is the patches you can buy from almost any store like Target or Wallmart, that are used to repair rips in umbrellas and back packs. They are vinyl, thin and self adhesive. This is what I use on my convertibles.

In 2011, after almost 10 years away from the hobby I went to the Heartland Nationals to see what have I missed. As I entered the hall, there was a gentleman in front of me with a white T-shirt with a huge orange '32 Vicky on the back. The Hot rod was a drowing shown from behind, fenderless, with fat tires, exhaust hanging out the sides and a big motor. The minute I saw it I said to myself "I have to build one like that". So here it is.
  7. Thank you all for the great comments. To answer the last question, I just need to put the handle on the rear doors (you can see the hole on the last picture), a side view mirror, give it a nice final polish and it's done.
  8. The stoplights and the custom license plate are on
  9. Actually Superamericas are quite more special than the 250 GTO, as each one was custom tailored for its respective owner. The only reason why they don't enjoy the same popularity as the GTO, is because they never raced.
  10. Thank you guys. Any one of you going to the Heartland nationals this coming weekend ? Would love to meet some of you.
  11. It is Griggio Silverstone Opacco (matt) Thank you all for the nice comments
  12. My kid convinced me to make the trek from CO. It is going to be his first show ever and he is really excited.
  13. This is getting better every time I visit. Keep it up. Can't wait to see it finished.
  14. Great detail on the carbs. Looks really cool.
  15. Thank you Stan. What the grille looks like To attach the side windows, I cut some pins then used them as studs to hold the windows in the frames Then painted the pinheads black to make everything subtle. The rear windows received gold BMF frames
  16. Sorry for the long interruption, but I'm back now. My dad came to visit from Europe and we had a road trip. Vegas, Hoover Dam, Grand Canyon, SoCal….Now I have to rush the models I like to finish. I got my fittings and braided line I was waiting for and the radiator hose is done. This pretty much concludes the engine bay, save for some turned aluminum caps. Since the front grille will be open (photoetched) I needed to make a radiator behind it. Detail Master to the rescue. The Model Car Garage grille was painted black and its frame was polished. The radiator surface was glued to gunmetal painted grille shell. I left areas uneven to simulate a used radiator The painted grille had its frame glued to it
  17. Thank you guys. I am waiting on some photoetched grilles and aluminum fittings to finish this model.
  18. Thank you all guys. Here is the same car but in Giallo Tristrati It has the same mods done, but it was left rhd.
  19. It is in MPH. I don't have a better picture, because my wife snapped it with her phone for her scrapbooking.
  20. What's the point having a cool car if you don't enjoy it…...
  21. The 410 Superamerica and the 250 California are arguably the best Mattel has ever made in 1:18. They are both fantastic and easily rival models three times their price. Mattel makes three variations of the California (not talking colors, but actual differences in details) and two different Superamericas. The all black one may be of particular interest to you, as it is a copy of a real car that featured quite few Mercedes parts on it. It was commissioned by a young Mercedes lover from Ohio.
  22. These are models I have made either for myself or were commissioned by collectors. First, one of my favorites - Ferrari California by HAMANN. Model is based on a Hot Wheels 1:18 scale converted from right hand drive to lhd full Hamann aero kit cast in resin resin centers on the wheels with machined aluminum lips "carpeted" interior, seatbelts etc. Griggio Silverstone Opacco paint carbon fiber on ground effects and wing Photoetched emblems custom decals All masters, molds, machining, decals are made by me Thank you for looking
  23. Dave, Fred, thank you. Started fitting the hoods. The top one is not even polished yet, but everything seems to fit just fine. It will be pretty much done tonight. The only thing that is slowing me down is that I need to order a grille from MCG and some fittings for the radiator hose.
  24. HAHAHA…..they are not fabricating anything. They just allow themselves some "artistic creativity" interpreting history. And YES, I used to sell high end cars.
  25. Just had some fun with dry transfers and made the side windows. I had to make new "glass" because the original no longer fits, since the rear was slightly stretched and gradually widened on the bottom. Looks pretty cool I think. Once installed you won't be able see the black on the signs, but I know they are there
