How To: Widen Fenders the easy way...
allparish12 replied to Darin Bastedo's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
hey Wilbert...i tried this method and while it came out pretty good...it was A LOT of work...i'm pretty sure that despite me trying to do it exactly as it was described, i overestimated my cuts and my gaps ended up being wider than the example...i managed to get it to work though, but i was doing to try the method posted here for the other side and hope for the best... http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=21186&st=0&p=189567&hl=widebody&fromsearch=1&#entry189567 -
Dispose of materials

soooo...if i understand correctly, i can take my used thinner to lets say Auto Zone or some body shop and they can dispose of it for me? Or just let it evaporate on its own? -
How To: Widen Fenders the easy way...

great...i've already used a different method i found here on one side with surprising results (in a good way) but it was a TON of work...i wish i had come across this method prior to doing the other one...but i was going to try this on the other side and pray to the model car gods that both sides come out the same... -
Dispose of materials

oh ok...i see some of the workbenches and it looks like a few people have sinks in theirs...i was jus wondering do they just dump it in the drain with no regard to where it will ultimately end up -

will the service stations take used thinners as well?? I know auto zone recycles oil for you...i didnt know about brake fluid... -
I see everyone uses their fair share of chemicals...whether it is brake fluid for stripping paint, or products for cleaning airbrushes...My question is, what in the world do you guys do with the used chemicals? Some of you seem very earth friendly so I cant imagine you just pouring it in your yards or down the drain, so how do you get rid of your chemicals?

did you widen the fenders yourself or was that apart of the kit? I've been looking for a bodykit/fender widening tutorial for a while...i've seen a couple of ones that suggest cutting the body, but i was looking for one that just adds styrene and some putty to sand down

Convertible Top Boot
allparish12 replied to allparish12's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
possibly...that would probably require me trying to hunt one down though right? I'm trying to see about scratchbuilding one as I have the materials at my disposal. If mine comes out good, I will definitely do a tutorial on how i did it, but just trying to see if one exists already. Thanks though George -
I was really trying not to start another thread. I've searched this site for at least a week using various search words and didnt find what i was looking for. Any, I am working on my 09 Dodge Challenger, and decided to cut the top figuring i could scratchbuild a convertible top boot. I could've sworn I saw something on the net in some fashion a couple years ago, but my searches on other sites that I frequent didnt yield any results. Anyway, has anyone successfully scratchbuilt one? I've looked at a few pics of the 1:1 car I am trying to replicate as well as some model car manuals i've found online. I have one started, I just have to sand it down and see what the end result is going to be but if anyone could share any tips, I would be very grateful.

hey everyone...man time sure does fly...cant believe its been since august that i've worked on the car...finally fininshing up some home renovations and starting to find time to get back to modeling...this week was the most substantial amount of time i've been able to do anything...mostly still in prototype/design phase trying to figure out exactly what in the world i want to do to the model...anyway, here are a couple of pics of some stuff i was able to do...keep in mind, im still experimenting with ideas (believe it or not, this is the first time i've successfully opened a hinged trunk...lol)...any feedback is appreciated To dos: -custom trunk audio set up...i've been trying to find a place to get some resin tv's .."thepartsbox" is where i got them the last time i bought them but i mistakenly threw all of my audio stuff away when i moved from my apt to my house a couple years ago...im thinking i could just scratchbuild something and cast those for future models...thats shouldnt be too hard right?? -possibly cutting the top off or cutting a sun roof -possibly adding a chrome ring to the rims -doing some interior audio stuff...possibly just a dash tv or maybe something out of the glove compartment im thinking of doing something very similar to this car: so far here is what i got
