This is the first (and only) car model I've finished since I got back into car modelling last year (I've been a sci-fi modeler for years). Now I have a bunch of cars in varying states of completion.

This is a repop of a kit that first came out in 1960, and it does show it's age. It's built mostly out of the box. I wanted to use the old-school hot-rod white-walls that came with the kit, but for some reason the manufacturer did not include enough rims - there were 4 white-walls and 2 drag slicks, and 2 rims for the drag slicks and only 2 rims for the white-walls.
While doing research, I found photos of a rat-rod sporting 22 inch rims as a joke by the car's owner, so I decided to add these "thug-ride" rims I found cheap at my local hobby shop.
I stripped all of the chrome off. The frame and motor were painted with Model Master red, the body and interior were painted Model Master primer gray, and a few shades of Model Master Metallizers were used for the various hardware. I gave it a liberal application of Tamiya Weathering Master Soot, Rust and Mud. I attached a side mirror from a die-cast VW bug.
It's now impossible to see much detail inside, but the seats were painted black with steel shells, and the gauge cluster came from a die-cast VW bug. I painted the shift knob to look like an 8-ball.
I'm not entirely happy with how this came out, and I see so many things I would have done differently, but I'm glad I didn't give up and stuff it back in a box.
My next rat rod will be much rattier.
