The doors have been cut out.

Thanks for the comments everyone. I've got the other rear wheelwell roughed in. I learned something today, I never knew there was two different 53's, I thought Monogram was the only one to make it. It winds up this one is the AMT, so I had to buy another kit to fill in the missing parts. Luckily I found one cheap on ebay. It never occurred to me that this wasn't 1/24 scale, but once I opened the Monogram kit it was quite evident.

I've had this 53 Corvette bag kit laying around for a couple of years and couldn't figure out what to do with it. I bought a Nomad body at NNL East last week with plans of making a 58 Impala wagon. Unfortunately the body and parts for it didn't match, so I decided to cut it up and see if I can get it to fit the Vette. After cutting it off, I shortened and narrowed it, then attached it to the windshield frame. Here's what I came up with after a few hours. After a night in the Purple Pond, the roof and tailgate were ready to be mounted Next up was to start making room for the rear wheels and tires. I cut the wheel house out and raised it along with widening it. I wonder why the stock kit has such a wide gap between the body and the wheel houses. I still need to trim the outer edge as it's too wide and the interior tub is not centered.

I saw part of it while flipping through the channels Monday night. Just when I thought car shows on TV couldn't get any worse, this show proved me wrong. I thought this was the worst one ever. I guess we need to jump on the redneck Duck Dynasty bandwagon.

They're Pegasus Hellas.

I bought a 57 Nomad body for another project last week at NNL East. Unfortunately the tailgate and glass weren't for the body in the bag, the body is 1/24 and the glass and gate are 1/25. As I've always liked the original concept for the Nomad using the 1st gen Vette, I thought I'd do a little cutting and fitting. My proportions are far from the real one, the real one has shorter fenders and longer quarter panels which makes it look more like a regular wagon than a sports car. I left the body alone and made my roof really short, I like my version better. First up after cutting the roof off, narrow it and shorten it. Then I attached it to the Vette's windshield frame. Here's a rough idea of what I've got so far .

Al right then, here's what I'm starting with, a Monogram 53 Corvette bag kit. It's not complete, but I do have a full kit somewhere in the pile for any missing parts.

It depends. If I can get into the Cannonball CBP, it will be a 53 Corvette. If not, I'm dragging out one of my many stalled projects, most likely the Deora van. -
I started cutting up a 53 Corvette today and this looks like it would be a fun little contest. Is there room for a late entry?

Urethanes, can we talk about these?

1- I buy from my local supply house. 2- From what I understand, humidity is the killer for most hardeners. As soon as I pour the hardener, I wipe the threads of the can clean and replace the cap immediately. Cleaning the threads is important as I've had cans weld themselves shut from the hardener drying between the can and cap. 3- My favorite is Nason. Cost and how it flows out are the reason for my choice. I am currently working with a house brand, but I'm having a hard time getting it to flow out nicely. 4- The factory formula usually works fine. If the brand you decide to use has a reducer available as an option, you might want to try adding it or adding a bit more than the suggested formula. Clear is designed for the much larger air cap of a spray gun reducing it will help with atomization. I spray at about 20psi. 5- I usually use a Paasche VL5 for clearing. I have had excellent results with the number 1 tip and needle also. I recently tried my Badger Krome to see if it would handle the thicker clear an it to worked great. I will give you this tip, not all urethane spray and flow the same. I've had some spay like a thick glue, but flow out beautifully. You need to practice to learn how the brand you choose will flow out. -

Thank you all for your comments. It makes all the hassle I went through to build this worthwhile. Mike, if you go back to the build thread on this, you will see the trike does indeed fit in the trailer. -
This started with a RMR Willys Jeep panel truck and a Jimmy Flintstone trailer. The build pics can be found here, http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=69038 . On with the pictures. http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c238/Psychographic/Models/Jeep/P2260449Medium_zps6ba066ca.jpg http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c238/Psychographic/Models/Jeep/P2260448Medium_zpscfbb4adc.jpg

I'm finally at the end of this journey and I did make it to NNL East this year. To all who followed along and posted words of encouragement, I thank you very much. I'm going to post some finished pics right now, so go look on the "Finished" forum to see how it came out. -

Things are wrapping up quickly, I made a fan belt out of tape and painted it satin black. An electric fan made from a slice of an inner rim, some strips of .010 x.080 and a circle cut from some .030. I made it real quick and not with much detail, the blades are flat but airbrushed to look like they're mounted at an angle. I didn't go crazy on this as it is barely seen behind the grille. Other things I've managed to finish, the ignition coils, throttle linkages, door panels, steering and brake linkages, radiator and coolant lines, headlights, the grille shell is mounted with new brass mounts, front and rear glass, and the body is out of the booth. I'm very disappointed in the paint, hopefully a quick sand and re-clear will take care of things. It looks like the Jeep just might make NNL East this year. -

Really nice work on that bed. This is what a 4x4 should be,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,BEEFY! I like a lot of the little details, like the antennas and reflectors in the mirrors. What colors are you thinking of? -
It's coming along nice Richard. You picked a pretty unusual truck to slam, but that's what is so great about it. I want to see what you come up with for the headlights. You should check out the wheel sets Shucky has, as not only are they really quality pieces, he's got some nice modern designs that would fit right in on this build.

Austin, how appropriate to have a video with Alice in it. first, I loved the original Alice Cooper band as a kid, it was the band that got me interested in music. Second, with all the grief this build has put me through since I got back on it I decided to name it "Welcome To My Nightmare". Bob, the front suspension is scratch. It's made from 3/64' evergreen rod, 1/16" tube, the airbags are o-rings wrapped around some 1/8"rod, and the kingpins are 3/64"rod. The spindles are made from 1/16"tube and some scrap .040 sheet. The tie rod is brass rod with brass tubes soldered to the ends. Go back to post 18 on page one of this thread, it shows the construction of the suspension. From now on I plan to make my suspension pieces from brass, the styrene is too fragile. -

The interior and chassis are finally one assembly. I thought I had finished all the plumbing, cables and wiring, but I forgot the shifter cable and now that it's all together, I'm not sure I can get it in or if I even want to try. I think I can live without it. Now to paint the front suspension and get that buttoned up. -
Now that you've said that, I could see this being a car built for weddings or something similar, I seriously doubt it was built as a custom show car. It seems it was built tall enough to stand in, a mobile chapel perhaps? As with some of the other oddball customs that have been posted lately, the craftsmanship seems to be of good quality.

What a cool piece of history! Every time I see something like this I kick myself in the butt and say "Why didn't I think to build that?" Great job!

Two of the Craziest "Funny Cars" ever kitted by Revell....
Psychographic replied to RatRod's topic in Model Cars
Very cool John, a really nice job on building both of them. I bet there's been a bunch of Revellion searches on ebay since you posted this. I know I did.
