Unfortunately no. Nice score Bob, are you leaving it a slot car or are you going to build a model out of it?

Thanks for the comments everyone. I can't decide on the colors and this has me stalled for the moment.

Two Lane Blacktop 1955 Chevy Replica
Psychographic replied to Camaro68396's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Are you sure about the Badman kit? I bought a reissue kit last year and it came with only one of the daiseys. The kit comes with two different rear wheels. -
I don't know how, but the rear tires were no longer centered, maybe because of all the work on the interior tub. I had to move the rear forward a touch. This meant cutting out the old mounts and shortening the trailing arms. I added a license plate box to the rear rollpan and started reworking the taillights.

Well I guess the hinges work.

Janis Joplin's Porsche 356C and Janis figure...
Psychographic replied to Brizio's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Wow is this coming along great. I can't wait to see this cleared. -
I decided that I procrastinated long enough on getting the door hinges mounted so today I made an effort to figure them out. I think I have one side done, I'll know once the cement dries completely so I can fine tune it before tackling the other side. Once I'm sure this method will work, I'll shorten the pieces under the fender and try to trim the door piece a bit.

I added some bracing to the frame rails. I also removed the leaf spring from the rear, replaced it with locating rods and made a can-over (it's a coil-over shock that uses an airbag rather than a coil spring). I have to run to the hardware store to get more O-rings to make one for the other side. I replaced the trailing arms with new ones that show the suspension in the dropped position.

Thank you for the comments everyone. No Shaun, it just never looked right to me once I got the seats.
-
I worked on the interior tub today. I finished the fabrication of the tubs and the tunnel between them. I also added to the rear part of the interior side panels as they were originally designed to end at the seats. A 4 point rollbar was made and the interior is starting to look like something. The seats are from an 87 Corvette.

I redrilled all of the front suspension parts and used pins to mount everything. Now that it's all snug, it's time to see how the ride height will be. With the frame in the interior tub, and the tub in the body, this is how it will sit when parked.

I guess if we are going to race across the country, a stock 53 Vette suspension might not be the best option. After cutting out the front crossmember, I went about kicking the front frame rails up and then added the crossmember back in, in it's raised position. Then I cut out the back arches and then wrapped some styrene around an 87 Corvette IRS. Now with fully independent suspension, along with a very low center of gravity it should be quite a canyon carver.

More chassis work, I cut the molded in shocks from the rear and made a pair of my own. The front is looking nice and clean. I made a drop mount for the radiator and it seems to line up perfect, sometimes you get lucky. Next up is a set of permanent spindles and I do believe fab work on the suspension is done.. We've just about got a roller.

A comparison between a stock frame and mine. Next up is getting the front wheels figured out. It's going to be hard to get them pulled in far enough, but I think there's just enough room. It clears the plumbing. I still have some fine tuning to do on the plumbing and I'm trying to come up with an airfilter of some sort.
-
I think i have the rear positioned correctly. It went from to "high to low and back again" more than once to get the ride height where I wanted it. Once the rear was set, it was time to get the front crosmember with the spring pockets back into position. I set the frame in the interior tub, the tub in the body and marked the frame. Here's the frame as she sits right now.
-
I set the tools of destruction to the back half of the frame. This is what was left when I got done. And this why I cut it up, I stole the rear from an MPC 87 Corvette. I might have to cut the back half off and add to it, I think it's about an 1/8" too low and doesn't allow the rear to tuck up enough.
-
Even with the front of the frame cut out and reshaped, the stance is way off. This is as low as the front will go. So I cut the A-arms off and will reposition them.
-
Rather than make my own front suspension this time, I decided to modify the kit frame to get the front lower. Using a circular saw blade in the Dremel I cut the front crossmember and upper A-arms off. I then cut about half of the lower part of the frame rails out. I then added some scrap styrene to the top of the frame rails. I also started on the intercooler which you can see in this pic.

I'm on my second try at doing some plumbing on this thing. I think this design will work. I'm out of 1/8" rod, so this is far as it'll go until I can get to the LHS. I Think I'll start on an intercooler in the meantime.
