stulee11 replied to stulee11's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
hi all just a small update... i got the colour on today and i think she is looking quite nice. hood bed cab sorry for the poor pics but i was holding the wood up with one hand and taking the pic with the other lol... let me know what ya think so far ?? thanks for looking in stu -
when i wet sand i try to feel the difference... at first it feels rough and grainy the after a few strokes you should feel the change to it being smooth. then change to a finer grit. BUT when doing it be VERY careful not to burn through the paint... mainly when you polishing be very careful on that part... also try to look on "youtube" as dr cranky has put a video on about wet sanding and i am sure a few other model builds have to. you can get them in packs but they vary in what grits you get in the pack... i mainly buy them as single sheets because then i know i will get what grit i need... and it works out cheaper to buy single sheets... over here in england one sheet costs 0.50p were as a hole pack can start at £2.00 and you most likely wont use half of them .

most automotive stores sell wet and dry paper but they only go from 600 up to 2500 grit... thats fine for prep work but for polishing you will need wet and dry paper from 8000 to 12000 grit. and that i have only been able to get online for hobby sites. wet sanding is were you sand the body under cold running water you can use some soaps to help with the cleaning of the model... but make sure it doesn't have and moisturisers in it as they will react with the paint .

New to this site and model making with some Qs
stulee11 replied to sonsw87's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
as for the decals i fully agree with gregg "micro sol and micro set" ... i was having loads of problems with decals forming to the contors of a body . then i tried them 2 solutions and sorted it right away ... but dont worry when you do try them as once aplied to the decal it will make you cry... as it will wrinckel them up but leave them over night and they sort there self out ... this link will help you out with it http://www.modelairplanebuilding.com/decals-and-markings.html i know its a plane in the discription but the steps are excactly the same for any model. welcome to this fantastic forum. good luck with your modeling and please post your (WIP) and finished models so we all can admire them... and help in anyway if needed. stu -

-
oh no i dont mean the sort ... i mean something like this ...

-
to be honest mate i aint got a clue lol... i just put what it said on the box lol
-
i got a better pic of the colour and the met in the paint ... and this is the reason why the wheels don't seem to sit right as you can see its all put together right... and its in the right place's... but for some reason the left one in the pic seems to lean in at the top.
-
i dont know what happened with the front tires... one seems to fit in ok but the other one is turnt in at the top and i dont know why ... i didnt glue them in place but i think its a moulding problem . but thanks for the comment
-

hi there . here is my "66 nova" done mainly box stock ... i just added the ignition wires and fuel lines ... let me know what ya all think ??
-
hi guys she is all done and now going in "under glass" plz take a look and let me know what ya think ??
-
thankyou for that ... once my 2 little boys stop wanting cars like daddy lol... i will have to invest in a dremel.
-
thanks for the input mate ... but i did notice that wen i did the first moch up.. and i trimmed the rear end down just a tad already... its not the slipping the body on thats stopind it from sitting lower i think the rear end needs to be droped a little bit ...
-
in need of some advise... With or without the chrome trim ? I no its my choice but i like them both so what do you guys think lol .
-
the rear tires i used are included with this kit but i think i will have another look and see if i can drop that butt down a tad lol. thanks again
-
thanks for the good feedback. ya know what mate ... i was thinking the same thing when i moched her up . but i was advised early in the build to "open the rear fender wells" but i got all confused trying to work out how to do it so i gave up lol . i did want to lower the back end but couldnt seem to find away of doing it . as i am only on 7th build ever lol
