  1. Thanks Steve. I'll have to test the windshield. I know that the rear window doesn't fit the opening at all, so maybe you're right. Here are a couple more pics of what I did last night to the interior. I'll check out the glass tonight for sure. Dan
  2. Well, I've started back on this one from many many moons ago. My Mom bought this fer me for my birthday or Christmas, I don't remember which, and I started to build it and there was something wrong with it and it went back in the box. Well, it's been over 40 years now and I got it back out and started on it a couple of days ago. It's in flat black now and I will paint it gloss black. Here is a picture of the body as it is now. Dan
  3. Well, I don't have any pictures of my early ones cause they met the fate of a 30-30 at 100 yards. Nothin left to speak of fer sure. Dan
  4. Sorry to hear about your girl friend Craig. If she and you can come you're both very welcome to be here. The show should be a great one. If not, that's Ok. I understand. It's great that you've stuck it out with her in her time of need. Take care and may GOD bless. Dan
  5. Yep, I agree that 100.00 bucs is too much to pay for a model kit. How far from Columbus do live Craig? You're welcome to come to our show (BSAC) on the 25th. We should have a great show this year especially if the weather holds out like it has so far. Dan
  6. On an economical note, I just sprayed three bodies, one chassis, a hood, and a radiator support with one 1/4 oz jar of Testors flat black. I put the paint in a 1/2 oz jar and one 1/4 oz jar of enamel reducer and mixed it up and sprayed. Now, the jar of paint was $1.29 and the reducer was some that I already had from years ago. If I was to use the same price it would have been $1.29 for the reducer. That's $2.60 and some odd cents for all three bodies and stuff. One body was a 65 Grand Prix, a Frankenstude and a 51 Buick custom body plus all the other stuff I mentioned. Now I use Testors 1/4 oz jars for most of my painting with an airbrush and brush painting. I haven't used many acrylics as of yet. I have used Tamiya's transparent paints for lights and window tinting by brush and airbrush. I do have some paint in cans but I mostly decant them and spray through an airbrush. Dan
  7. Wow, I didn't realize how old a kit this is. Old age has gotten in the way once again. :D I really appreciate your help Craig. I just don't have the money right now. I have to sell some other stuff before I can even think about getting one of these. That's why I'm waiting until after our show. I have a table to sell some cars and military kits to raise the funds for this and some other stuff. You have been a great help to me for all you have done on finding these two kits and I thank you for that. Dan Note: I haven't worked for over 3 years now (laid off) and I guess that means that I'm forced into retiring. I'll be 65 this month and have a few health issues.
  8. Thanks Craig. I'm going to look for one at our show on the 25th of this month in Columbus Ohio. I really want one that's not put together or missing parts. I don't have a lot of parts for trucks as it is, so, that's one reason I want one that's not built yet. I really appreciate your help and information. Dan
  9. Yep, sure is fer sure. Dan
  10. Ron, does the block of wood come with it? Just curious that's all. Dan
  11. Your truck looks great Craig. That's about what I'm looking for I guess. Thanks. Dan
  12. Thanks guys, and Andy one of my brothers has some brand new tubes for it and all I have to do is go get them. One thing is, they're in Barberton Ohio and I'm down here in Lewis Center. I'll get up there one of these days and get them fer sure. The Guyatone amp has a real good sound to it and is worthy of fixing it up and gettin it back to soundin good. The Standel has a good sound to it also and it is LOUD. At home I have the sound set at about 1 out of 10 on the dial. I like them both. Dan
  13. Thanks again guys. Ben, your KW looks great. I took a peak at your pictures and I like what I saw. It's gonna be awhile before I get to this cause one thing is I have to get the truck first and then do the rest. Dan
  14. Thanks guys. You learn somethin every day, and I've learned a lot about this so far on here. Great bunch of guys fer sure. Dan
  15. Thanks Jim. This is more involved than I ever expected. I wonder why they never made the truck since they made the trailer. Go figure. If I was to make this I wouldn't have to be exact as far as the truck goes, just as long as it looked like the one in the movie. Again, thanks guys for all the information. Good to have people like all of you here. Dan
  16. Thanks guys for the information. Looks like it's goin to be a while before I get to this one. I'll be on the lookout for what I need. We have a show coming up this month on the 25th and I'll see what I can come up with. Again, thanks. Dan
  17. I have the trailer for this truck and I need to know which KW is the right one for this build. Any help would be appreciated. I'm kinda new in the truck buildin fer sure. Pics of the truck would be of help also. Dan
  18. Here are a few pics of the Guyatone that I played back in the day (196-1970). I haven't played it much since then and I got it out the other day and I fergot what I fergot how to play. Any way, here are some pic. This is the Guyatone amp that needs some tubes. This is the Standel amp. It's solid state and has two speakers in it. It's loud. Well, that's it. I have sore fingers now from trying to play (remember) stuff that I used to play while I was in the Army. Dan
  19. Don't use the lacquer thinner, it will desolve the plastic as well. Dan
  20. I've not had very good luck with the freezer method. I have used Tenax liquid cement to get parts apart. I just kept brushing the glue on the joints until they (the joints) loosened up and I could pop them apart. I did this with an original 63 Impala that I restored. I could not get the seats out of the interior tub and I used this method to get them to come apart. All of these wethods that have been said here do work, I just haven't had good results with the freezer method. Maybe it's just me. Dan
  21. You can use a Ballpien hammer and if that doesn't work, you can use a bigger hammer, like a Sledge hammer. :D Not really, just jokin guys. What I do is like what has been said before, I use a pair of pliers if the lid is stuck. What I do all the time now is make sure that I clean the lid and threads on the jar each time before I close the lid. No problems since. Now the lacquer thinner works great to if the lid is stuck also. Dan
  22. I use India ink for the wash. You brush it on, it sinks to the bottom and no need to polish the edges because the ink doesn't stick to the top edges, it sinks to the bottom. Quick and easy. Both of these grills were done that way. Dan
  23. Castrol Super Clean is now called just "Super Clean". They changed the name for some reason. A friend of mine was looking for Castro Super Clean and couldn't find it anywhere and saw the "Super Clean" and past it up cause he was looking for Castrol Super Clean. Bummer fer sure for him. After he got the Super Clean he didn't like it and then gave it to me. Go figure. Oh well, I have two gallons instead of one now. Good fer me. Dan
  24. 59 Impala is my screen name because I like 59 Impala's. I had one back in the day with the 348 and three on the tree. Ran like a raped ape. My first really fast car and I really loved it. I wish that I still had it. My Avatar is a model I built of the one I owned back then. Dan
  25. Wo Nelly, I mean Donn, I resemble that ya know. Cain't wait fer the show to begin, fer sure. Dan
