Excellent! Where did you get the wheels for the Vette?

This has been sitting around almost completed for a few years. Everything was done except the body. Well, the body was warped and would not fit the rest of the car so I had to buy another kit to complete it. Also, I wanted a white car. The model is originally red and despite multiple coats of primer, the red bled thru onto the white paint, making it pink. This time, I’m successful. Gotta put the final coats on the body and do the trim. Here is the model so far. Finished product to follow soon. The underbody was originally all black plastic. I also took some liberties in using different metal colors to make it look interesting. I have a couple more models laying around in various stages of completion with all sorts of parts laying around, cluttering up the house. The solution is to finish all the models and give away any spare parts folks here might want. If the Jaguar guy sees this, I have the parts you want.

Yes, they’re tribbles. I’ve got 3 completed and 3 nearing completion. 1982 Corvette Special Edition, 1963 Jaguar, and 1985 Corvette.

Years ago, I received an ’85 Monogram 1/8 Camaro and it was a glueball paint disaster. He did not sand out the casting lines. The car was painted in a silver enamel followed with a pearl coat and then a gloss coat, not that you’d notice. The paint was sloppy and sagging. Plus Monogram had a knack for making warped hoods. However, I do like his engine work and the treatment of the underbody. After sitting for years in the garage collecting dust, I thought I’d give it a makeover with a black and white theme. I wish I had before pics but I didn’t think to do it.

May I add one of the problems I encountered? I was dry fitting the body to the chassis and for the life of me I'm not able to do it. Its the rear wheel wells that get caught. I tried bending a little. A little more bending would have broken the body. Can someone help? Asking a lot but a youTube maybe?

Just haaaaad to chime in again but kudos also to those emblems. I know they come as little buttons with the flags stamped in so you must have carved them out. I have an '82 in progress and carved out the emblem with a sewing needle. I kept the circle on mine. Also, the GT Radials are the tires to have. Some kits have the Eagle GTs and those are flimsy and tend to get flat spots.

I had that thought too. Maybe someone can cut one up into a roadster. I would think the rear hatch cut out and shaved down would make a good trunk lid. Its been done with the same scale Corvette. Unfortunately, I do not have that ability

Thanks to all for you kind comments and support. Skip, I wanted a darker color too. The darker color is Opalescent Gunmetal and it provides more contrast for the chrome window moldings than the Silver. I use paint from Automotivetouchup.com. Unfortunately they don't make Gunmetal despite my knowing the color code. Anyway, this is what the Gunmetal looks like: As for the panel lines, I rolled up some masking tape like a cigarette except inside out. I then wrapped it around the panel lines like this: This way, I avoided masking lines and so it feathered in. Next, I took off the masking tape and wet sanded 600. Similarly, I then masked again in the same manner except it was almost the whole body side. Thus, the body was exposed from the hips down, same with front of body top. Applied topcoat and made sure there were no lines. Then I rolled the masking tape back about a quarter inch and applied clearcoat. Unfortunately, there was a tiny hole in the masking of the front door opening and some primer splashed onto the inside of the windshield. Had to polish it out. (aargh) Needless to say, I masked the door opening from the inside out and masked the rest of the body. For special interest, this is a pic of the real car in Opalescent Silver: Note the bonnet on the real car is just as hard to fit as on the model Just a sideline, just about everybody does either British Racing Green or Pale Primrose. I wanted to be different.

Hey folks! This model is on Amazon for a pretty good price. $45.45 plus about $7 shipping. I bought mine from the same vendor for a bit less than $40 and he has since raised the price. Just thought I'd let you know, and Seasons Greetings!

My father bought me one when I was 10. That was 45 years ago. This was not a cheap toy at $9.39 + tax back then. We were not exactly wealthy back then so it was a lot to ask. I remember taking a trip on the bus with my dad on a cold overcast morning after I had been ill. We were getting the Jaguar!!! Yaaay!! Getting the paint and glue too. Yaaaay! Imagine this kit built by a 10 year old with lots of glue and smeared paint. But I was very proud of it and displayed it prominently. Over the years, the front wheels broke off at the frame and other parts fell off. It was relegated to the garage storage room. Many years after that, my dad and I came upon it when cleaning out the garage. He said "just throw it in the trash." I said no. It took a lot of nagging to get this car. Dad was very touched. My father passed away and I still had the Jaguar that I did not have the heart to discard. I bought a donor kit on eBay and put it back together. Only so much I can do, but it is all back in one piece. Trashed engine is sitting on my kitchen counter at the moment. Other trashed parts are in a shoebox. I don't think I'm a hoarder I have another complete kit that I would like to build after I finish my current project. Sky is the limit as far as how intricate this kit can be built. I've seen some outstanding builds either on this site or SMC. Highly sentimental to me. Respectfully, Kevin

Hello there. I'm using rattle ball cans of paint from Automotivetouchup. They make the color codes; for example, the car in my avatar is my Monogram '82 Corvette Collectors edition. Its done in Chevrolet code 7415. I have a '79 Trans am 1/8 done in Heritage Brown, Code 8031 and another in the making with Code 50 Solar Gold. (I also use their primer and clearcoat.)
