67 Camaro Convertible conversion---update 6-14
jcbigpaw replied to novadose71's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Very nice work. Keep it up. Can't wait to see the finished project -
For anyone that really digs these cars check out volksrods.com for some pics of the real thing. ?

Thanks for all the praise. The engine is from the Polar Lights kit. I had to shave the doghouse then scratch build the intakes and coil. Four barrel carbs, oil filter and air filters were from the parts box then modified. Mufflers came off a 39 Chevy then I built the pipes to connect them.

I know there's a bunch of these scattered all over the forum so let's get em all together for a look. Whether your in progress or gotta blow the dust off the pics because it's been done so long. Show me what you've got. I'll start with one I just finished. This was built using a Herbie snap kit from Polar Lights.
-
This one started life as a Polar Lights "Herbie the Love Bug" snap kit. I've been working on it for the past five months in my spare time. Modifications are numerous and the end result was not quite what I first envisioned but I really like it. For build pics check out http://www.modelcars...topic=52052&hl= Hope you like the build.

Memorial Day Weekend is here
jcbigpaw replied to martinfan5's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Being a mail carrier with the USPS, I will be taking another ten hour walk Saturday. LOL. Sunday and Monday will be BBQ with family and maybe a movie. Probably a little late Sunday night building time since Monday is the holiday. Have a great weekend everyone. -
IT'S FINISHED!!! Not quite what I envisioned when I started but I'm digging it. My first scratch built nitrous bottle too Hope you like it.

What's not to like. Clean simple build with subtle customizing. I love it. Good work

Finally found a few minutes for an update. Haven't had a lot of time to work on the volksrod but progress has been made. Here's the engine installed in the pan. I've added an MSD ignition, spin on oil filter, oil dip stick, plug wires, throttle cable, nitrous and fuel lines and scratch built exhaust. Still need to put decal on oil filter. Heres a look at what the rear will look like now that the body work is coming together. And here's a current over-all shot. Shouldn't be too long to get into paint now.

Whether you like it or not you did a good job completing it. Reminds me of some of the "kit" cars I've seen

I have to say that I have never smashed a model in anger. I have thrown parts and broken bits but never the whole model. I build models as a way to control my anger and so if I get really upset on a build I walk away and do something else. Now weed eaters are another issue. I have smashed one all over the back patio in a fit of frustration and of course working on my 1:1 scale cars usually involves a bit of bad language and blood. Comes with the territory. Lol

In the path of destruction
jcbigpaw replied to Sam Cates's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
We have one spare bedroom which is my hobby room or as my two grand daughters call it "papas no no room". If I'm not in there the door is closed and they know better than to go in. The wife, not so well trained. Lol. That said, I have lost many models over the years due to accidents or every sort. That's also one reason why I don't build models with rolling wheels. -
I use easy off to strip my models and prefer it. I place the parts to be stripped on some newspaper or cardboard outside. Spray a good coat of easy off onto parts and leave to do its work. Later I'll scrub parts with an old tooth brush under warm water. It will remove paint, chrome, old glued joints and even body filler.

Nice work on this build. These are my favorite car whether stock or custom. I am looking forward to picking up one of these kits to do this local car which I am in love with!
-
This is an AMT 58 Impala which I received as a semi-squashed incomplete kit. The end result was exactly as I imagined.
-
Very nicely done.

Okay, being nit-picky because you asked. Only things I see that might be considered missing are the shifter boot, the tach and the under-dash a/c? Passenger side mat too. It looks great! Im loving it.

It would help me if Dave Van would transfer that beautiful engine bay into the 67 I have sitting in my garage waiting to be restored! Lol
