Arnie Bestwick's 69 Gt Funny Car
S. Svendsen replied to chris coffey's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
It has generic decals including the stock Judge striping in several colors. From what I understand licensing from Arnie was cost prohibitive. Slixx has Arnie's decals for those who wants to build one that way. On a side note, the body in that kit is bone stock '69 and can be kitbashed to make a stock GTO. -
Model Cars Best Of
S. Svendsen replied to Gregg's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I vote for Rany Derr's 1/12 Sunoco 69 Camaro and Jim Drew's Grand sport vette. -
I put the driver figure on the box art because it was in the test shot RC2/Learning Curve sent me. Unfortunately, for whatever reason they decided not to include it in the production kit and they did not contact me to change the art. The driver figure can be found in the MK Blue Max Mustang kit which uses this same chassis.

Forty Years Of Hot Wheels
S. Svendsen replied to a topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I loved them when I was little and insisted upon sleeping with them. My mom said I use to wake in the morning with impressions of hotweels cars on my face! LOL. I stopped playing with them when I was about 13 or 14 but I never stopped buying them. I just stopped opening the packages. I have about 500 or so in the packages today and I still have about 20 to 30 of my original redlines from when I was a kid. I also remember having tons of that orange track and the loop setup. I had a Thundershift 500 racetrack too. I played with that thing for hours! Now, my 4 year old son loves hotwheels and we play on the floor with them together just like when I was 4, so I guess it has come full circle. If I had to pic a favorite, I'd have to pick the original 68 redline Camaro. I had a metallic brown one when I was little that was like my grandfather's 1=1 67 Camaro. Here's some pics of my collection. -
I just added a page to my site with lots of pictures of the new MK Challenger funny car and a complete writeup of my box art build. Here's a link. Challenge Her funny car story and pics

Here's a few more 70 Buicks that I have under construction on my bench. I broke open a 71 Pontiac Bonneville kit and was using that to build a convertible when I realized the optional pickup parts included in that kit would work on this kit too. The body lines for the roof and the wheelbase for the bed match up almost perfect. Besides the box art model I built, I recently finished a low rider and I also have a demo derby car almost finished. The one with the hood scoop will be a pro-touring car which will make an even half dozen.

Wow!! Bill Shrewsberry Is Still Alive!!!
S. Svendsen replied to chris coffey's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Update on my original post. I just got a production LA Dart kit in the mail and the LA Dart logos on the decal sheet are printed in gold metallic not gold foil as I had originally indicated. I requested gold foil and was told by the manufacturer that was what they were going to print and then they did something different. Still, it's a good looking decal sheet though. I plan on decaling a body over the weekend and will post pics and tips when I get a chance. -
Here's my color suggestions for you. -orange side panels on a yellow or red car w/ solid black stripes -blue flame stripes on a silver, black or green car w/out side panels -orange side panels on a blue car w/ solid white stripes.

Don't bail on it! I agree the engineering standard of some of these old kits was not up to today's kits. You might need to do some cutting on the rear package shelf to make the interior tin fit inside the body better. I did a little trimming on my box art model to make it fit. Larry Henley did a lot of modifying on his which is why the orange car on the box sits lower. Take your time with this kit and it will build up nice.

Wow!! Bill Shrewsberry Is Still Alive!!!
S. Svendsen replied to chris coffey's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
I talked with him by email when I designed the art for the new decal sheet. He seemd like a good guy. I had him check over the art several times and make sure it was accurate. The original decals never had the red stripes and some of the art was a little "off" and the printing was not very crisp. The new sheet also has the door decals printed in gold foil which is something the originals lacked. -
Here's a couple more pics of the box art model I built for Model King. I have added a complete write up of the build and more pics on my site. here's the link. http://homepage.mac.com/ssven5/Sites/Svens..._car1_page.html

Yes, #1 was the gray one on the cover of the box. I haven't added it to my site yet.

I thought I would try something for fun and build a few different versions of the same kit. This low rider is the 2nd finished of 5 different Model King 70 Buick Wildcats that I have under construction. I never built a low rider before, so I thought I would give it a try with this kit. Next up will be a demo derby car. There are more pics and a complete write up on my site. http://homepage.mac.com/ssven5/Sites/Svens...rider_page.html

Here's the final art for the upcoming Laguna S-3 stock car re-issue. In addition to creating the box art, I built the model for this one and designed the paint scheme and generic decal sheet. The generic sheet features the tire lettering and some rare authentic fender decals which several people had requested. Contributer Paul Aleman was a big help and provided me with scans of his sticker collection to be able to reproduce the correct sponsors for 1975. Dave Van again lent his talents and created the art for the 2nd scrambled sheet which can be unscrambled and can make either the 30, 18 or 47 cars. Thanks again to everybody on the "pitcrew" who helped bring this project together. The kit should be available around Christmas time.

Here's another surprise coming from Model King. Dave Burket sold out the last run 59 Imperials and wanted to give those people who missed one a chance to get one or buy another. This time it will be reissued with all new retro box art and decals by guest artist Daniel Johnson. Tom Miller (bluemoose) also once again lent his talents and built the stock box art models while Daniel built the custom version. Apparently this will be a very limited run and it should be out by the end of the year.

Preview of Model king 70 Z-28 box art and decals
S. Svendsen replied to S. Svendsen's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I spec'ed the emblems, the Lindsey Chevrolet graphic and a pair of stripes to be in silver. Silver stripes weren't a factory option but I thought somebody might like them. -

Thanks for the kind words guys. I enjoy working on these projects and I am glad you appreciate the effort. -
Here's another one I just finished for Model King. This is a re-issue of the Ertl 70 Z-28 from about 5 years ago. It's an excellent kit with lots of detail. I created an all new decal sheet for it with accurate stripes in both black and white this time. The original issue decals did not have the white stripes and the rear of the stripes was incorrect for the short spoiler. I also added all the Z-28, SS and Rally Sport emblems, gauge faces and air cleaner decals. In addition there are two sets of custom stripes and a bunch of license plates. The other markings are a mixture of vintage drag racing and modern SCCA autocrossing. The box art models were built by James Tester and Tom Miller who did an awesome job! The kit will be out by the end of the year.

I just finished another box art project for Model King. It's the promo style 64 Galaxie last re-issued in the 90's. For the decals Dave Van reproduced the decal art from the original 64 issue release and they will be included here. The box art models where built by Tom Miller and Joe Valeriani.

Model King Challenger funny car
S. Svendsen replied to S. Svendsen's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Glad you guys liked the art. By the way there is one more mopar model coming that hasn't been announced yet. I can't give any details yet but it is a highly desirable kit and I think people are going to flip out over it! Dave Burket will be announcing it soon. -
Dave Burket just informed me that the '70 Buick kits are in Iowa now and will be hitting the shelves any day now. Here's another look at the box and decals in case you missed it.
