  1. You chrome resin parts the same way you chrome any other part: 1. "Chrome" paints, like Alclad. 2. Bare Metal foil. 3. Send the part(s) out to a plating company like ChromeTech USA.
  2. That's pretty cool. And I like the "junkyard dog"... nice touch!
  3. Whoa... that's a HUGE piece of candy!
  4. I hope Ohio is ready for you...
  5. ok, I'm up!!! It's a MODEL! Very close vote, but I got you!!! It's actually a 1/5 scale scratchbuilt model. Looks pretty good, doesn't it? Next ROM coming MONDAY!
  6. I think my story is pretty typical. I built models hot and heavy as a kid (all my friends did, too). Then along came girls, jobs, "real" cars, marriage, kids, a mortgage, etc. I "dropped out" of building for about 15 years. I got back into it after the kids had grown a bit and I finally once again actually had a little time to pursue a hobby! It's not so much what brought me back to modeling as what forced me out of it in the first place (family responsibilities and diminished "free time").

  8. Wouldn't "fine Corinthian leather" come from Corinthian cows???
  9. That rear view is killer...
  10. It looks "right" to me! (Not that I know anything about these things...but it just looks right! ) If it was mine I think I'd widen the front skid plate and add a brush guard to protect the headlights...
  11. That's looking mighty slick! The black top really sets it off nicely!
  12. Now yer talkin'! Happy shooting!
  13. But not as weird as spending $7 on a pair of wheels!
  14. Cool! What scale is that???
  15. I'm old enough to remember when gas was 39 cents a gallon, the attendant pumped it for you, he checked the oil and cleaned your windows, and they gave you a glass or dishes or trading stamps on top of all that... and yet somehow the oil companies still made a profit just fine...
  16. Depends on the specific model. On some models the glass installs from the outside, on others from the inside. There's no one "best way" to install the glass that will be the 'best" way for all situations. If the glass fits the opening well and installs from the inside, you can paint some clear enamel around the edges of the glass opening with a small brush, drop the glass into place and let it dry. The enamel will act like a glue and hold the window. If the glass installs from the outside, you can paint the "channel" that the glass fits into the same way, position the glass and let the enamel dry. White glues (which dry clear) can also be used instead of clear enamel in these cases where the glass fits the opening well and doesn't need to be forced or pushed into place. Liquid styrene cement can also be used, by putting the glass into place and flowing a small amount along the edges, letting capillary action drew the glue into the seam between body and glass... but if you get any liquid cement on the surface of the window you won't be able to remove it without leaving a mark on the glass. If the glass doesn't fit well (gaps around the edges, for instance), the best way is to tape the glass tightly into place from both the inside and outside, leaving some of the edges exposed around the perimeter of the glass. If the glass installs from the inside, apply a small dab of clear 5-minute epoxy to those untaped spots on the inside of the body, let dry and remove the tape. The epoxy should be enough to hold the glass into position tightly. If the glass installs from the outside, carefully apply a tiny bit of epoxy to the corners of the channel where the glass fits into before taping the glass into place. You have to be careful to keep the glue away from the edge, where it can squeeze out and show. As with all aspects of modeling, practice is the key. Keep in mind that tube glue and superglues (CA glue) are generally not the choice to install glass. Tube glue will mar the surface of the glass and CA glue will fog the surface if you use too much of it.
  17. Your Camaro looks great! Ausgezeichnete Arbeit!
  18. Love the color, love the wheels.
  19. You don't have the focus down quite yet. Are you on auto-focus?
  20. I've returned Danbury Mint models that came to me with broken pieces, and they've sent a replacement, but I've never tried to ask for just certain parts. Why not email them both and ask what their policy is? Danbury offers a 30-day money back guarantee but makes no mention of offering parts. I doubt that they would offer to replace individual parts, as the models are all assembled in China. From Diecast.org, which carries both FM and DM models: CAN I GET REPLACEMENT PARTS FOR A BROKEN MODEL? Due to the enormous inventory problem it represents, it is difficult for the manufacturers to provide every part for every one of their models. For larger parts to repair that junker, your best chance is either to post a notice on one of our Forums or monitor our Auction page where "distressed" items are frequently placed for sale.
  21. Me too! Developed our own color 35mm film and made our own prints the "old fashioned" way...in a darkroom with an enlarger. Those were the days... And I still have my Yashica "D" 2-1/4 camera. Yet another possible collector's item!
  22. Nice! I'm sure you'll like playing with your new toy! My very first SLR (bought for my college photo classes way back when) was a Canon. I still have it. Totally manual. Film, not digital. (Of course! I'm talking the late 70s!) Maybe a collector's item someday?
  23. Big voter turnout on this one so far! Must be election season! Like they say here in Chicago, vote early and vote often!!!
  24. Don't get me started on the Bears! Yeah, da Bears blew two games where they had the lead. Poor coaching and bad play calling, IMO. I think Lovie Smith needs to be sent somewhere else, and Ron Turner needs to be on that same plane! I'm SO tired of Ron Turner's dink and dunk offensive scheme. I think that maybe he saw the light a little bit in Detroit and let Orton fling a few passes downfield...FINALLY! And what happened? Well, Orton had his biggest passing game, yardage-wise, ever! The biggest thing holding back the Bear's offense, IMO, is Ron Turner's very conservative play calling. Ok, enuff Chicago sports talk... I'm probably boring the whole rest of you! Back to models...
  25. C'mon Gregg... the Yankees haven't scored a touchdown in ages! BTW.. Congrats to the Rays. They took it to us and came out on top. They're a very good team... I hope they go all the way. As for me... well, I guess it's now officially FOOTBALL SEASON! Go Bears!
