Got my model building mojo back!
Harry P. replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Well, I haven't even received them yet. They are due to arrive by July 6. And then it will be quite some time before you'll see anything under glass... they are both pretty involved kits, with many hundreds of parts each. But I do plan on doing a full-blown WIP on each. So stay tuned... In the meantime, here's a Fiat I have already built... -
Yeah, around here, it could be.

What the hell? Fireworks going off all night, constantly. People, today is July 2! Not 4! When did Independence day become a week-long affair?
-
That grille looks perfect! Beautiful work...

Why go through such a convoluted, time-consuming process when two-part putty sets up in about a minute? Why over-complicate such a simple process?

Ok, all you linguists out there. Is it I-ta-LER-i or I-TAL-er-i? -
UV, schmoo vee... I'll stick with good old fashioned two-part catalyzed putty. Works every time.
-
Well, technically, it's a two-part putty. The putty plus UV light (the "hardener") needed to cure it. Note they specifically point out that actual sunlight (UV rays) are needed to cure it.

I think it's physically/chemically impossible to produce a one-part filler that doesn't shrink, because every one-part filler is a combination of the filler itself, and the solvent that keeps it pliable in the tube. So as the filler dries via solvent evaporation, physically a portion of the filler disappears... hence, shrinking. No way around that that I can see.

Obviously your problem is that you have way too many friends!

There seems to be quite a large gap between the hood's rear edge and the cowl. Is that a problem with the kit, or is it just that the hood wasn't properly in place when you took the photos?

Wow! Your 1:1 is just stunning! What a beautiful car!

Click on a message, then click on the "Message" button. One of the options is "Leave Conversation." That deletes it. Unfortunately you have to that for every message you want to delete, one at a time.

Very cute and nicely done! But shouldn't those wheels of fromage be wrapped???

On your message page, there is a "Message" button at the upper right. Click on it.

I agree that there would be a massive number of issues to be solved if we ever went to a fully autonomous system of transportation. It seems inconceivable that we could ever develop and implement such a system. But then again, back in the day people believed that if a human being traveled at any speed greater than that of a galloping horse, the body could not stand the stress and you would die. And of course, once upon a time the idea of a human being actually setting foot on the moon was laughable. So you never know what might develop...

Never, ever, ever use any brand of "one part" putty. Ever. They all "dry" via evaporation of the solvent, and by definition, they shrink as they dry. Always use a two-part product (putty + hardener). They don't "dry," they set via the chemical reaction between the two parts, and are much more stable over time than any one-part putty can ever be. Bondo makes an excellent two-part putty than comes in a smallish tube (plus a tube of hardener), so no need to buy the big old cans of the stuff anymore. Their two-part "Professional" glazing and spot putty is just the right size for us car modelers. Just make sure the package includes the word "Professional," as they also sell a one-part putty that is sold in practically identical packaging. You don't want that one, you want the "Professional" one.

Dairy Farmer's Gazette?

If you are being transported in a "self-driving" car, and something goes wrong and the car causes an accident, is the "rider" in the car responsible? Or the car manufacturer? In other words, if we actually get to the point where cars are truly autonomous and need no driver input, and there is a collision... who is the responsible party?

But the problem with what Led Zeppelin did is they took other people's work and gave themselves writing credits on their albums with no mention of who actually wrote the song. Just a few examples (there are many more)... "Dazed and Confused" was written and recorded by a guy named Jake Holmes in 1967. When the song turned up on Zep's first album, writing credits were listed as "Page/Plant," with absolutely no mention of the guy who actually wrote the song. "Whole Lotta Love" was similarly credited to "Page/Plant," when in fact is was nothing more than a slightly reworked version of the song "You Need Love" written by Willie Dixon. "When the Levee Breaks" was written and recorded by Kansas Joe McCoy and his wife "Memphis Minnie" in 1929! No mention of their names in the song credits on Zep's album. The list goes on and on. In many cases, the original artists sued Led Zeppelin and the cases were settled out of court. But Page and Plant have a long history of, er... "borrowing" other people's songs without giving credit where credit was due.
