  1. Just 2-3 days ago were were at 20 below zero overnight temps, record-setting cold for the date and close to the all-time record cold temp here (not wind chill, actual temperature was 20 below! With wind chill factored in, 40-45 below). Tomorrow and Saturday it's supposed to be near 40 and they say rain. That's a 60 degree swing in just a few days. Crazy.
  2. Yeah, I noticed that. Edges are a bit jagged...I was using a different photo setup, maybe that's the problem. The photo of the wipers that I took on my bench with just the camera's flash looks ok. Must be the different lighting setup I was using on the finished model shots. I'll have to play around with it some more.
  3. It's a small car in real life, and a very small model in 1/25 scale, even more so when you're used to building big 1/8 scale models of big cars (Mercedes, RR). I don't know how some guys superdetail models at this scale. I literally can't work that small! My fingers just don't go down that small!
  4. We already have an "All the Rest" category that includes motorcycles. Anyone who wants to post or look at motorcycles knows where to look.
  5. It's funny how you can see things in photos that you don't see in the "real world." I saw that the left side rear bumper was mounted crooked. Fixed it...
  6. Actually it's a lot smaller. This thing is teeny-tiny.
  7. This is a real change of pace for me... such a tiny little model!!! I usually build big scale, mostly 1/12 or 1/8, so working on such a tiny little model was a real experience! It's the Revell of Germany XK-120. This is the kit: I actually had started this several years ago, but lost interest about 90% through. I finally dug it out and decided to finish it. As you can see, I tried to match the box art. The paint is a DupliColor Chrysler color, don't remember what I painted the interior with. I had to scratchbuild the wipers and rearview mirror (missing from my kit). The "upholstery" roll around the cockpit was molded as part of the body, so I had to paint it to match the interior. I also added the snaps for where the soft top would attach to the body. I also added valve stems to the wheels and blackwashed the grille. I painted the engine but didn't wire or detail it... so not much to see under the hood.
  8. That's cool! Very nice wheels. Can you explain how you made them?
  9. The ramps really look great! Just out of curiosity... why is the chrome trim strip on the doors missing? Will you install that later?
  10. You'll spend all the extra money you'd make on heating your house in the winter!
  11. It is. The real car is tiny... about golf cart size. Here is a shot of my 1886 Benz Motorkutche ("motor coach") compared to the DeDion. Both models are 1/16 scale. The Benz was also a small car, but compared to the DeDion, it looks huge.
  12. Here's a better view of some of the scratchbuilt details I added... top supports and brackets, steering linkage, fender brackets, etc.
  13. The biggest problem with this kit is the out-of-scale spokes. They're way too thick, but since this is such a small model, I didn't bother trying to scratchbuild wire wheels. If I find a source for better 1/16 scale wire wheels, I might replace these... but for now I'm going to live with it.
  14. Although this is a 1/16 scale model and technically a "Big Boyz" subject, the model is actually so small that I thought I'd post it here instead. In case you want to see the process, the full detailed WIP can be found here. This is the kit I started with... very simplified, much detail missing, only about 50 parts altogether: I added poseable steering by rebuilding the front spindles and adding a steering linkage, I added a scratchbuilt top with brass rod top supports, added various details like the oil filler tube on the rear end, the fender brackets, replaced the molded plastic armrests on the passenger seat with real brass, etc., etc. Here you can see just how small this "big scale" model is:
  15. Check out the finished product "Under Glass"...
  16. Gotta love the "global warming"...
  17. Hard to believe that pickup is 30 years old! It looks like it rolled off the assembly line yesterday.
  18. I don't speak the language, so I'm going to assume that's a compliment....
  19. Man oh man! Luke, that thing is absolutely flawless! Terrific detail, slick paint... beautiful! Like others have mentioned, lowriders aren't really my thing, but that is one absolutely fantastic model. Perfectly executed.
  20. Come on, Joe! Didn't you enjoy today's heat wave? The high temp today actually made it above zero! I mowed the lawn, and then relaxed out on the deck with a cold beer.
  21. Does anyone know if any more of the body panels came off? If that little hatch was the only access to the engine, that thing would have been impossible to work on! Or was the engine so Mercedes-Benz bulletprof and typically German overly-engineered that it never broke down?
  22. Nice work from you... as always!
  23. Huge heat wave coming through today. Right now it's "only" 8 below. We're supposed to get all the way to +6 today. Woo Hoo!
