Diamond Duster! Wow, what a blast from the past! I remember building that when I was a kid, maybe 10-12 years old. Didn't that have working suspension and lights?
-
How cool is that? A DeDion featured in a movie!
-
Beautiful! A very nicely done version of a seldom-seen subject built up. I'd throw a black wash on that grille, though...

With apologies to Sam Clemens...the rumors of Fred Cady's demise have been greatly exaggerated! His decal company is dead. He is very much among the living.

Drone delivery is just around the corner. Ummmm hmmmm.

You mean if the drones are cross dressers and wear makeup? Or do you mean if they go rogue? -
Well, since the Packers beat the Bears in the last game of the season (the game that decided the NFC North title), I couldn't care less about the playoffs. However... I'd have to say that since the Bears are out of it, I wouldn't mind seeing the Packers go deep into the playoffs. And I wouldn't be too upset if the Broncos win it all. Or the Packers.

What happened to all the pinned tutorials?
Harry P. replied to sjordan2's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Because he's asking where the pinned topics in the Tips, Tricks and Tutorial section went. Seeing as this IS the Tips, Tricks and Tutorials section, I can't think of a better place for him to post his question. -
Up on four wheels for the first time! Yes, the spokes are grossly out of scale... I glued the hubcaps on with just a tiny dab of glue, in case I want to upgrade the wheels sometime in the future. For now, though, I'll live with the kit wheels. Check the size of the model against that dime. This has to be the tiniest model you'll ever see in the "Big Boyz" section! Some details installed... steering column/controls, foot pedals, starter crank...

I use a mixture of Future and acrylic black craft paint. Can't give you an exact ratio, it depends on what you're washing and how obvious you want the effect to be. The models in these photos have all had the Future/acrylic black wash applied in many places... Rear wheels, front wheels, "brass" parts, bolt heads...pretty much everywhere: Lanterns sprayed Rustoleum Metallic Brass, then blackwashed: Wheel backs, springs, headlight mounting hardware... again, pretty much everywhere: On all the engine:

Drone delivery is just around the corner. Ummmm hmmmm.
Harry P. replied to Ace-Garageguy's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
They covered this story on 60 Minutes recently. Bezos said it was still "years away." Can you imagine what would happen with thousands and thousands of drones flying around? How many would crash into each other? How many would break down halfway to their destination and drop your package into a lake or onto a busy expressway? How many would be vandalized as they dropped your package on your doorstep? A lot of unanswered questions... -

The forecast for Monday here is a daytime high of -4!

At least you're consistent!

It's the small details that really bring a model to life.

Improved Lighting & Magnification Options?
Harry P. replied to nitrojunkie's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
I use a magnifier LED lamp. Best lamp I've ever had. Bright "daylight" light, not the warm yellow of incandescent light or the cold blue of flourescent. And because it's LED, no heat. Zero. And very long bulb life. You won't be sorry... http://www.officedepot.com/a/products/420036/Realspace-Clamp-On-Magnifier-Task-Lamp/ Edit: Looks like great minds think alike. Gregg and I agree. -
This Charger is just one of many DM models I own. This is the kind of detail/quality we're talking about:
-
Yep. You never know what will happen when you deal with a totalitarian government. It's a shame that DM lost all their tooling this way. Their models were state-of-the-art, spectacular detail and quality. Worth every penny, IMO. And now... poof! Gone.

Well, it stopped snowing after three days and 16+ inches. And we all know what happens when the snow stops. The temperature drops. Big time. We're supposedly in for some major league cold within the next few days... as in when the daily high temperature is below zero.

Did they issue an emergency cloud alert and urge people to stay indoors until the danger has passed?
-
Actually it's perfect shoveling weather! Speaking of which... I better get out there for my "second round" of shoveling today...

I painted the seats with a custom mix of acrylic red, brown, and black, then added a black wash, then sprayed them with Varathane satin finish to get a "leather" look. The brass grab handles on the driver's seat (left) are kit parts that I painted metallic brass and blackwashed. On the passenger seat, the brass rails and backrest uprights are real brass rod, to replace the plastic kit parts. After all, what looks more like real brass than... real brass! I painted the base of the passenger seat black, and added a trim strip of thin brass wire for some visual interest:
-
Rear end details. I added the oil filler neck and attachment "bolt" on the rear axle center unit, also added the straps that the license plate hangs from, made of strips of thin sheet aluminum. By the bottle of Plastruct cement, you can see just how small this "big scale" model is!
-
16 inches on the ground so far. And it's still snowing right now...
-
After filling in some sink marks with Bondo, I added the decorative welting or "piping" around the passenger seat backrest using CA glue to attach some thin insulated wire:
-
A "large scale" kit that's about 5 inches long!
