  1. This kit was based on the cubit system...
  2. This may be a whole new contest class... awful model kits done awfully well!
  3. I would think that people who build Pochers (either exclusively or mostly), like these guys appear to do, would in general be more intense in their modeling interest and take things a little more seriously than the "average" model builder... if for no other reason than the $$$ they spend on kits... so that would explain some of the very elaborate and comprehensive work rooms. These guys are not the type that casually throw together a model over a weekend.
  4. I doubt that Tom will see this... he's long gone. His last post was in 2010.
  5. ok... unless you built this kit as some sort of personal challenge, I don't understand why you'd bother putting the work into it that you did. It's a terrible kit... completely off, proportions are wrong, everything's wrong. So why not, as you yourself suggested, pass on this and build the Monogram version? Don't get me wrong... your skills managed to turn an absolutely horrible kit into something much nicer than anyone could expect, but I just have to wonder... why?
  6. Just one question: why use two canvases to make one painting?
  7. I had a hard enough time working in 1/16 scale... I can't imagine doing a car like this in 1/25 scale. I'd have to work under a microscope to see what I was doing!
  8. Lots of guys from down under here. You'll feel right at home.
  9. Some of those workshops look nicer than some living rooms I've seen!
  10. Chuck also did a feature for the magazine showing this exact technique.
  11. Why in the world did you post this in Real or Model???
  12. Apparently a member of the "more money than brains" club...
  13. Speaking of Jay Leno driving his cars... several years ago I went to the Tonight Show. In the parking lot, in Jay's space, was a very cool yellow car. I can't remember now what the car was, but it was definitely a "classic" type of car. Yes, he does drive his cars! And parks them in the lot like a regular guy!
  14. No you wouldn't. No way you pay 13 MILLION for a car and drive the bejeezuz out of it. You might want to... but you wouldn't.
  15. That's very cool. Nicely done model. Is the tire lettering done with decals? It's very sharp and crisp.
  16. Yeah, but cars like that aren't bought as "cars," they're bought as investments, like art. It's like buying a Van Gogh... you don't buy it because you like the picture and want to hang it in your foyer, you buy it because of what it is.
  17. As far as I know all the various repackagings are the same kit, the only difference maybe being the inclusion of an electric motor. The version I built included parts for a battery box and various gears that would turn from the engine through the driveshaft and then through the differential to power the rear wheels... but no actual electric motor was in the kit. And nothing about motorizing the model is mentioned in the instructions, so my guess is that all the motorizing bits are left over from a previous incarnation of the kit, maybe the Bandai version?
  18. I hear they're expecting 6-12 inches of snow...
  19. I love that color on this car. Nice!
  20. http://shop.autographmodel.com/Model-Rossi-1-8-model-kit-Lamborghini-Miura-SV Get one while you can. Production limited to 100 kits.
  21. Final vote: 28 REAL, 18 MODEL. And the answer is... REAL!
  22. I think they're both pretty darn good...
  23. Here's mine. As you can see, I blew it on the "fork" side trim. The two inner "tines" should not be foiled. The way you did yours is correct. I see that my foil also looks ragged in these photos. Not sure why... it's pretty clean and straight in real life.
  24. You're exactly right. It's an old kit, so most likely there would be some flash or even a mismatch between halves on some parts due to upper/lower mold misalignment due to wear and tear. I have photos of mine, but none showing the underside. Actually I built mine years ago and don't remember anything specific about the springs other than they would have needed the usual cleanup with a file and/or sandpaper. Maybe even a lot of cleanup! But I know I did use the kit springs. Llike I said, springs aside, you did a very nice job with yours. Definitely a model you should be proud of.
