Hey Curt... did you miss the BIG RED LETTERS in my initial post?

a common language that separates us

Sounds like the "electrification" process back in the teens and 20s. The population centers got it first, but the small towns and rural areas lagged behind. -

I don't think there's any physical reason why certain areas have no cell coverage (I could be wrong)... I think it's economics. They're not going to spend the $$$ to build cell towers in areas where there are only a few people. -

The mountains around Denver are way taller. They all have cell phone coverage in Denver. -

I guess... but it's hard to imagine, with all the technology we have these days, that there are still areas of the country that are "too rural" for cell phone coverage. I mean, there's no technical reason for it. -
a common language that separates us

We all can tell when English isn't the person's first language, and we all account for that. Nobody ever criticized a forum member from outside the US, Canada, UK or Australia for his lack of English skills. We all get that and understand it. In fact, some of our overseas members have a better grasp of English than a few of our home-town members! It's the people to whom English is supposedly their first (or only) language that we get a little annoyed with. And you're exactly right... some people just don't even bother to try and post in correct (or at least close to correct) English. Those are the people who's posts I just ignore. -

No cell service in your area????? It's 2012... how is that possible? Are you saying that nobody where you live has a cell phone? That's hard to believe. -

Speaking of the common language that separates us... I love reading Christian's posts. Where else would I hear words like "pillock?" -

If some of those gibberish posts are people doing the best they can, what does that say for the education system in this country? -
"No side view mirrors?"
Harry P. replied to modelmike's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I found the answer: On Japanese cars, the mirrors were fender mounted due to governmental regulations stating that the rearview mirrors both had to be viewable through the front windshield INSIDE the swept area of the windshield wipers. This regulation was in place from the '50s through 1982 on passenger cars, and until much more recently on commercial vehicles. In 1982, Japanese cars started moving to A pillar mirrors in search of better aerodynamics for fuel economy reasons. -
"No side view mirrors?"
Harry P. replied to modelmike's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Does anyone know why the Japanese mount their mirrors way up front like that? I mean, there must be a reason, it can't just be random... why why in the world do they do it that way? -

Do what I do. Whenever I see a post that's gibberish I don't even bother trying to decode it. I just ignore it. If someone is too lazy to post their comments in actual, legible, understandable English, why waste your time trying to figure out what they said? -
Remember... don't post the answer (or obvious hints to the answer!) PM me with year, make and model. The answer: 1954 BMW 502

Wait. What? No donks??? -
"No side view mirrors?"

Driver side mirror required, passenger side mirror optional. -
Yup. Makes me so proud to be an Illinoisan... Geez, can a state government be any more corrupt??? I swear, Abe Lincoln is spinning in his grave so fast there's smoke coming out of his tomb...

I don't mean to hijack your thread, but I have to say I love the color combo! I used the exact same Rustoleum Sage Green/Ivory paint on my Pocher Alfa:

Thanks, Greg! Yeah, that whole "falling off the workbench" episode was a real problem, to say the least! But unlike Humpty Dumpty, I did manage to get it all together again!

I was going to comment on the incorrect color of the canvas top (I guess "hood" would be the word you use... ), until you posted the color-corrected photo. So now all I can say is... beautiful!

Paint dries via evaporation. The solvents evaporate, leaving the pigment and binder behind. So one way to tell if lacquer or enamel paint is fully dry is to smell it (acrylics have less of a "paint smell"). If you can still smell that "paint smell," the solvents have not evaporated completely, and the paint is not fully dry.

If accuracy is your goal you need to do a google image search before you start your next model. All the reference you need is right there on the internet, all you have to do is go get it. For instance, the lip around the "shaker" scoop is a rubber gasket that seals to the underside of the hood... it's black rubber, not silver. Example: http://www.moparmusc...a/photo_06.html

How to handle a pitted finish?
Harry P. replied to foxbat426's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Cold water, warm water... makes no difference. The point of the water is to continually flush away the grit and keep the sandpaper from clogging; the temperature of the water isn't critical. -
So what's the arrow for ?
Harry P. replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yes. That's the whole point. If we move a topic but leave a link in the section where it was first posted, you see an arrow and the topic title still shows up in the original posted section (the section where it was incorrectly posted). If we move a topic and do not leave a link in the section where it was first posted, you don't see an arrow and the topic title is gone from the original section where it was incorrectly posted. That's how I move them. No link. I'm trying to get you guys to start paying attention to where things are supposed to be posted. It's a never-ending process... I have to move topics every day. Apparently many of you either don't pay any attention to where you post what, or you just don't care, or you live in some sort of parallel universe where for example, in your world a question about how to strip chrome belongs in the "Under Glass" section because "more people will see it there"...
