  1. You're off to a great start. My advice would be to take the next step: start using Bare Metal Foil for your chrome trim, instead of silver paint. You'll get a much more realistic effect. http://www.bare-metal.com/How-to-use-Bare-Metal-Foil.html
  2. It's about either companies or individuals that have not given permission to be broadcast, or it's about not showing any company logos unless they're "paying customers." No money... no free TV exposure.
  3. For me it's the actual process of building... creating a miniature. It's not limited to model cars for me. In fact, I'd say that in the past several years I've turned to other subjects more and more, so that now actually most of the models I build are not of cars at all. My recent models include a San Francisco cable car, several old (historically significant) locomotives, several highly-detailed wooden ships (including the Nina, Pinta and Santa Maria, and a Mississippi paddlewheeler), two stagecoaches, a covered wagon ("prairie schooner"), several WWI fighter planes, a few motorcycles, etc. I still build cars too; model cars are what drew me into the model building hobby in the first place, but lately I'm finding myself drawn more and more to "other" subjects out there. But no matter what I'm building, for me it's the building process that I like.
  4. You will almost always beat the LHS prices by shopping online, especially if you buy several items at once (paying S/H just one time... not buying a bunch of individual items and paying S/H on every order). Buying online gets you the best possible selection, you can do a google price search to find the lowest price, the internet is open 24/7/365, you don't have to spend a dime on gas to get there, and they deliver to your door. Is it any wonder that the LHS is a dying breed?
  5. It's just a few miles north of Jacksonville. Mapquest is your friend...
  6. I hope these two shiny beauties don't ruin your crusty and rusty reputation!
  7. Another possibility would be a portion of a product package. A lot of things come in packages where the product is sandwiched between clear plastic (and usually also a cardboard frame). If you could find a cheap product that was packaged in a package where a part of that clear plastic could work as a "bubble top," you could cut the part that looks like the bubble top away from the rest of the package. Of course, that assumes that you could find a product with the clear plastic packaging shaped in the way that you could use. I'd say take a stroll through the aisles at Walmart one day and see what you find. Another idea: Easter is coming, and you might be able to find some clear plastic "eggs" in craft stores. I know there are colored versions; not sure if they are available in clear.
  8. How wicked do you want to get? Allison wicked? It's completely chromed.
  9. The world's first donk???
  10. Future is nothing more than clear acrylic, so yes, it can be used as a clear coat. I've done it myself. True, there are other alternatives, but Future can be used as a clearcoat. No reason why not.
  11. Remember... don't post any hints or answers here! PM me with year, make and model. The answer: 1928 Plymouth Business Coupe
  12. No reason to visit Crook County unless you absolutely have to.
  13. Where does the frame come from?
  14. G- you look amazingly like Marlon Brando... only a bit less lifelike...
  15. Very impressive; most impressive of all are the drive chains.
  16. Yeah, I know about that model. But I want to build my own.
  17. Adjustable wrench on the bottle, pliers on the cap. Works every time.
  18. Sorry Christian, for not answering you sooner. I thought this thread had gone to where old threads go to die and today I see it's been bumped back to the top! As is typical of me, I get all psyched for a project, go at it hot and heavy for a while, then usually lose interest as a newer project gets in my head. So this one has basically been sitting since my last progress report, which is pretty dumb, because it's so close to finished. All I have left to do is paint the hood and get the grille shell replated (Chrome Tech, probably), and add the last few small details. I'll probably get this one finished soon. I don't want to have it sitting there forever, 95% finished.
  19. Shouldn't the judges be disqualifying entries that don't belong in a given class?
  20. Maybe so... but I don't do small scale. Heck, to me, 1/16 is small! That's about as small as I want to go. And I'd love to do this in 1/8 scale, but if I do, it'll be curbside-style.
  21. email sent. BTW, you can attach files to PMs, just for future reference.
  22. You guys were too smart on this one! Final vote: 17 REAL, 49 MODEL. And it's a model! (Juha Airio).
  23. I agree that siphon feed (or suction feed, same thing) is a better choice than gravity feed, both for ease of quick color changes and the fact that a suction feed paint bottle can hold more paint than a typical gravity feed airbrush can.
