  1. Yeah, but the steering wheel was on the wrong side!
  2. Maybe I should have said the first car built in mass quantities. The Coneheads would have loved it!
  3. I like it, sounds like a fun (and interesting) poll.
  4. Sorry... you're just flat-out wrong! About the car... and about being as old as me! You're way older!
  5. Guess you missed this: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=29050
  6. Well, that just goes to show how "beauty is in the eye of the beholder," I guess... because I think that's one of the coolest cars of the 30s!
  7. Would you feel better about it if I told you it sells for less than 40 bucks???
  8. A design milestone? Yeah, if you mean one of the ugliest designs ever! Ok, I'll take back my Checker nomination, and instead I'll go with the 1901 Curved Dash Olds (first car built in large numbers).
  9. Final vote: 27 REAL, 40 MODEL. Pretty close... but you guys got it, it's a model! 1/18 diecast. Next ROM coming MONDAY!
  10. How about a Checker Marathon? Kind of an iconic car if you ask me...
  11. Jeeps were produced for the US military by several manufacturers, including Willys. But they're all "Jeeps."
  12. Jeep. First SUV??? The original Chrysler minivans. And the list goes on...
  13. More important milestone cars... For performance-Viper. For styling-Prowler. Love it or hate it, you have to admit it turned heads. Different from any other production car. For technology-Cord, Toronado. And the list goes on...
  14. See? I told you this debate can go on forever... How about the Corvair? It was pretty groundbreaking as far as American cars go. Yeah, air-cooled rear-engine cars had been done before, but not by the US. The first V8 Ford. The Chrysler Airflow. Way ahead of it's time styling-wise, big flop sales-wise. The Tucker. And the list goes on...
  15. Who's to say that a car has to have four wheels? What about the Reeves Octo-auto? What were they? (I mean, besides ridiculous!) What about those 6-wheeled Tyrell(???) race cars? Or those 6-wheeled Mercedes military cars from WWII (I forgot the model name... it's the car that looks like "Rommel's Rod" was based on).
  16. Agreed, this is a debate that can go on forever. There are SO many "significant" cars, in terms of technology, styling, performance, etc., that theres no way to make a list that everyone would agree on. Ok, so define what "car" means. That in itself can be debated, there is no one definitive answer. I mean, somebody could conceivably say that the Cugnot steam wagon of the 1700s could be called the first car... it all depends on how you define the term. In my opinion, the first "car" as I define the word was the Benz Motor Wagen. VW Beetle, Model T, of course, obvious entries on the list. And tons more.
  17. So... why are you wasting your time on "the other" forum then?
  18. Karl Benz's Patent Motor Wagen from 1885, the first internal-combustion engine automobile. The very first car, in effect. The very first car? I say yes. Let the debate begin!
  19. With that Nova... when you get in, where do you put your head???
  20. Yeah, I have the exact same attitude about Lamborghinis...
  21. Aw, c'mon... it just needs a little work... you have to be able to "imagine the possibilities"...
  22. Mark–I contend that if the box art on a model kit is a photo of a model, the implication is that the photo represents a buildup of what's inside the box–no ifs, ands, or "disclaimers." I guess on this issue you and I will have to agree to disagree. Wanna buy a country estate?
  23. So by your logic then, if I was a realtor and showed you a brochure of a "country estate" that looked like the ranch house from the TV series "Dallas," but in reality I was trying to sell you the farmhouse from "Green Acres," you'd be ok with me using the photos of the Ewing spread as long as there was some fine print somewhere that said the property needs "just a little T.L.C" to look like the photos in the brochure???
  24. A much easier way to do vinyl tops is to just hold the can far away from the model and spray, creating "orange peel" texture. You know, like what you try to avoid in most situations... but it works great for creating a "vinyl" top look. Very simple, very easy.
