Thanks a lot everyone. Yeah, fins and chrome... gotta love it. I will have to replenish my BMF supply shortly as I think I may have only 2 sheets left along with some small pieces on a couple of sheets. Alan, you're right about it sitting kind of high, because of the way that the chassis fits onto the flat bottom of the interior. I could have drilled the axle holes a bit higher to make it sit lower but I didn't. You could try doing that when you get your kit. Yes, the exhaust tips are molded onto the rear bumper and I still need to put some flat black in the openings. Carl, that would be a great deal if the BMF people would do it...... say buy 6 sheets and get the next one free. They'd owe me about 6 sheets at this point over the past 20 years. -

Thanks guys. Terry, yes sir, a BMF monster to be sure. Al, I think you're actually ahead of me, but who's counting? -
Bare Metal Foil.

I've been able to finish an average of about 2 to 3 cars with a sheet of BMF, and some of the 50's cars I've been building take A LOT of foil. I cut pieces roughly twice as wide as the trim I'm covering and at least an eighth to a quarter of an inch longer. Yes, there is the waste factor but I don't find that to be much of an issue for me. I'd rather use a piece that is slightly larger than have to go back and cut another piece because I didn't use enough the first time around. I peel the BMF off of the backing with a tweezer and try my best to position it without touching the adhesive backing with my fingers. Once in place a QTip burnishes it onto the trim, followed by a softened toothpick on the edges, in creases and around details. Any tears or small missed spots get touched up with chrome silver paint. BMF work may not be my most favorite chore in modeling, but I'm not afraid of doing it, nor am I intimidated by it. -
Nice job Jon, it looks great, but did you forget taillights..??...........and you KNOW that Harry's wondering where the mirror is (LOL).

I finished this one up this afternoon. To recap the WIP thread, this is a Modelhaus resin kit. The colors are Model Master Chrysler Yellow and Tamiya Red Brown. I used Duplicolor Clearcoat and about a quarter mile of BMF to finish it off. I sanded off the shallow, molded wipers and used chrome wipers, mirrors and antenna's from my parts stash. Additions to the interior were sheet plastic visors painted yellow, gas and brake pedals because there weren't any, a piece of a shirt pin for a turn signal stalk, and a resin, dash mounted rear view mirror painted chrome silver. This was a fun project overall, even with the PITA masking job for the second color, and the hours spent on the BMF work. Thanks for looking in on this. All comments, etc., are welcomed as usual. The next one up on the bench is another 50's car that we rarely if ever see worked on. I just LOVE picking unusual and not your run-of-the-mill models to work on.

Chuck, that is a great looking car. This is another one (of many) on my "To Do" list.

Very happy to hear this Rob. I'm sure it will turn out to be great with your renewed interest and plan of attack. I can't wait to see your progress. -
Al, you just keep knocking them out even faster than I do. Another great looking car.

Welcome to our plastic playground Cecil.

That's a nice looking Chevy.

It's a little strange, but nice at the same time. I like the darker color at the bottom better too.
-
You just keep on knocking them out from your workbench Al. Another great job.

Thank you for your encouraging comments Ron. This project is on temporary hold until after the Turkey Day weekend festivities and travel are over.

I'll take a chance and say it's real.

I'd like to wish Gregg, the Administrators, the Moderators, and all of my fellow modelers and friends here on this Forum a very Happy, Healthy and Safe Thanksgiving. May we all be thankful for the blessings we have in life, and in this great hobby of ours. My modeling chores will be on hold until after this Holiday weekend as I will be enjoying the Turkey Day festivities with my daughter, son-in-law, grandson and other family members in VA. Please all stay happy and safe.

Thank you John. I appreciate your kind comments.

Thanks a lot Charlie. Chrysler used a lot of "unusual" color combos in the 50's. Most of them actually looked good together although they may not be to everyone's taste.

Is it just me, or does it seem that since they improved the adhesive on the back of the "New Improved Chrome" BMF that it almost sticks too good now..?? It's sometimes stubborn when trying to get the excess foil off, and there seems to be a lot more "glue residue" where it was removed. I'm not complaining about it as I'd much rather have it stick well than not.

That is a beautiful Ford Tulio. Great job.

Ron, thank you so much for enjoying my 1950's car builds. Funny you should mention the "Highway Patrol" show. When I finish work on this Dodge I'm going to start work on a 1955 Buick Century diecast model by Maisto which is another one in 1/26 scale. I scored it on EBAY for the bargain price of $16 (+ shipping). It is painted as a California Highway Patrol car that Broderick Crawford drove. I am, of course, going to redo it "my way". I already have it taken apart in a box, ready to start work on it after the Turkey Day weekend festivities. This Buick will make a really great addition to my 50's cars build mission. I love finding unusual modeling subjects of 1950's cars when searching thru EBAY. I have quite a few already lined up for future builds. Ron, please PM me if you ever want to thin out that "secret collection" that you have. Maybe I'll send you a PM listing the cars that I need to fill in the gaps..... Then maybe we can talk...
