  1. you can try looking at the selection of Tamiya paints that Model Roundup has, along wit a bunch of other goodies. www.modelroundup.com
  2. I wholeheartedly agree with Charlie. I'll take ANYTHING that has been listed in this thread so far. I'm a fan of ANYTHING from the 1950's. I know that quite a few of the cars listed here are made by Modelhaus, and I love their stuff, but it would be great to see these cars come out in plastic, which would be quite a bit cheaper.
  3. Tony, you might be able to give the wood a dark wash to bring out the molded in grain a bit.
  4. Thanks a lot Kevin and Ron. Today I finished the chassis and primed the body and doors, hood, front splash pan, etc,,, Tomorrow, if the weather cooperates, maybe I can start shooting some paint. I'll also start work on the interior. Pics to come as the work progresses.
  5. Michael this is looking really great.
  6. Doug, it might be a lot easier to use a convertible boot from spare parts if you can find one that fits or is slightly bigger that you can trim or sand down to the proper size. Or you can try to fabricate your own from sheet plastic cut and shaped to fit.
  7. Fantastic work on that engine Harry.
  8. Thanks guys. All of your encouraging words keep me going. Doug, I just got done looking at your '56 convertible build thread and love it. Your color choices sound great. I haven't used one of those diodes as a fuel filter in awhile. It's not an original idea of mine and even if it was you'd be OK to use it. Tom, yeah I've got a small pile of those diodes left too. Now Radio Shack only sells them in pkgs. of 2...!! I guess I'll have to add some speakers and a tuner to the model to get that radio reception to actually play...LOL.
  9. Thanks very much everyone. I appreciate all of your encouraging comments. I'm contemplating gluing the doors shut on this car as those plastic hinges always let the doors sag when they're open. I'm not into trying to make "better" hinges. John, thanks a lot. Nothing like being "in the groove" ... right Mr. Bassman..??
  10. You need to use either CA glue (super glue) or epoxy to glue resin parts together, or plastic parts to resin. Resin can be drilled, filed or sanded just like plastic. All paints are safe to use on resin but you should still use a good primer first for good paint adhesion. You should soak all resin parts in Westley's Bleche White for a day to remove all mold release agent, then rinse under lukewarm water and let air dry before priming and painting.
  11. This should be a lot of fun to watch. Notice Harry isn't building something that has either rear view mirrors or alternator brackets...LOL
  12. I started working on an AMT (Round 2 Reissue) of the '56 Ford Fairlane kit a couple of days ago. This kit's tooling is really showing its age with the large amount of flash on most of the parts, involving a lot of cleanup. I completed the engine, adding an M.A.D. prewired distributor, a Radio Shack diode for a fuel filter,a Detail Master aluminum air cleaner and an aftermarket aluminum coil because there wasn't one in the kit... I detail painted the chassis with the molded in exhaust and added aluminum tubing exhaust tips. The front and rear end pieces still have to be painted and attached. I sanded the mold lines on the body and sanded off the emblems, badges, door handles and wipers. I filled in the depression in the hood for the hood ornament with bondo and sanded it smooth and added resin cruiser skirts. This car will be a mild, "bolt-on style" Custom. It will have a tube grille, dummy spots, mirrors, antenna's, Pegasus cross bar hubcaps up front, Lake Pipes, Merc wagon taillights and a full width continental kit. I made my own platform for the connie kit from sheet plastic and bought the chrome ring and front & rear covers for it from Modelhaus (They will sell them to you as separate parts now for $5/set...... I bought 6 sets). The colors for this car will be Tamiya French Blue and White. Thanks for looking in on this new project. As always, all comments, critiques and whatever are welcomed and appreciated. Further updates to come as they happen.
  13. Great work Sam, it looks cool. I love the cars with the connie kits.
  14. Sorry to keep this going, but I forgot to list Corvettes and T-Birds. I have the '57 & '58 Corvette kits and the '57 & '58 T-Bird kits. The rest I still have to get.
  15. Thanks guys. Chris and Gene, I've got a BUNCH lined up still to build for the 1950's. Here's the list by year (if you're interested); (I didn't acquire all of them yet *) 1950 - Caddy (Modelhaus) * " - Ford (in the pile) - Olds (in the pile) 1951 - Chevy (already built) " - Ford (Modelhaus conversion)* " - Pontiac (Hendrix Mfg.)* 1952 - Hudson * " - Chevy (Hendrix conversion)* 1953 - Chevy (in the pile) " - Ford (already built) " - Hudson (in the pile) " - Studebaker (already built) 1954 - Chevy Sedan Delivery (in the pile) 1955 - Chevy (already built) " - Ford (Modelhaus conversion)* " - Olds (already built) " - Pontiac (Promo in the pile) 1956 - Caddy (Modelhaus)* - Chevy (in the pile) " - Chevy Nomad (already built) " - DeSoto (already built) " - Dodge (Modelhaus)* " - Ford (in the pile) " - Lincoln (Modelhaus)* " - Mercury " * " - Olds (already built) " - Plymouth " " - Pontiac " 1957 - Chevy (already built) - All others yet to build or buy. 1958 - Buick (already built) " - Caddy " " - Chevy " " - Chevy Sedan Delivery (already built) " - Chrysler (Promo)* " - DeSoto (Promo)* " " Dodge (already built) " - Edsel " " - Ford " " - Lincoln * " - Mercury * " - Olds (already built) " - Plymouth " " - Pontiac * 1959 - Buick (in the pile) " - Caddy " " - Chevy (already built) " - Chevy El Camino (in the pile) " - Chrysler * " - DeSoto (in the pile) " - Dodge (already built) " - Ford * " - Imperial (in the pile) " - Lincoln * " - Mercury * " - Olds (in the pile) " - Plymouth (in the pile) " - Pontiac * " - Rambler Wagon (in the pile) WHEW....!!! As you can see, although I've built quite a few so far, I've still got a LOOOONNNGGG way to go, and a lot more to spend to get a complete 1950's collection...... and I forgot the Nash Metropolitans which Modelhaus also makes for a few model years. If I missed anything please let me know. I pulled the '56 Ford kit out onto my bench tonight so we'll see how that one turns out. As a side note, if anyone reading this has any of the cars that are marked with a * above, and you can part with it, shoot me a PM and we'll talk. Thanks everyone.
  16. Nice looking model Chris. Good job.
  17. Hang in there Terry. Condolences on your loss.
  18. Thanks fellas, I appreciate your kind comments.
  19. Thanks again guys. Jonathan, I obviously agree with you about the 50's cars. Those are my favorite years for cars too.
  20. Ira, you are without a doubt one of the most creative and imaginative builders that I have ever seen. Your scratchbuilding for your creations is just amazing. Fantastic work.
  21. Thanks a lot everyone. Chris, this is a Johan promo.
  22. Mike I recently built their '55 Olds kit which turned out pretty nice. The engine area is a little lacking in detail but overall it builds up to a nice looking car. The scale on mine is 1/26 but the size difference is not great from 1/25.
  23. Tom G., I did move to another state (Long Island, NY to western PA) but she followed us...!!!
  24. Thank you all so much guys. I really appreciate it. Harry, yes sir, those were the days when you could tell the make, model and year of the car just by looking at it. Not all little rolling eggs like we get today. Cars had style, class and CHROME...!!! I thought about sanding off the molded on wipers like I've on previous promos that I built, but for some reason decided against it on this one. That'll learn me..!! I had a '59 Dodge Coronet for 8 years and it had the dash mounted rear view mirror. The '57, '58 and '59 Dodges all had them. At the rate that I've been going through sheets of BMF on these 50's builds I'll definitely have to stock up again soon because I've got a LOT more 50's cars yet to build. Tom G., I definitely need to get more display cabinets for my finished builds. I can't do the museum thing in my basement until my daughter gets married and moves out NEXT October (fingers crossed!!!)
  25. Great looking car Al. You're just knocking them out of the park one right after the other.
