your work bench

Sean, I so LOVE your basement area. Once my daughter gets married and moves out of my basement (hopefully next November) I can turn my basement into something similar. -

Thank you all very much for your wonderful comments. Shas, really anyone can do BMF work. Start out slow, practice on a few bodies and you'll eventually get it to work fine. Take your time, burnish it down well with a QTip and a softened toothpick. Trim with a new XActo blade but don't press too hard, let the weight of the blade in the knife do the cutting since the BMF is so thin. After you trim off the excess foil, burnish down the cut edges again with the toothpick. Chris White, this build is far from perfect. I can make a list of things that are messed up (You just can't see most of them)...... but thanks anyway. -

Thanks Craig. My hood isn't sitting down all the way because of the aftermarket, aluminum air cleaner I used. I just haven't taken it off to file down the carburetor a little. I only finished up this build just before I posted these pictures. -
John that was very cool!! Those are treasured moments for sure. The 'Cuda looks GREAT.

Oh yeah, I remember all those shows. I also used to watch Combat with Vic Morrow and Rick Jason. Nothing like good Army shows. I've got a bunch of old VCR tapes of WWII movies buried in my basement. I loved the Band of Brothers that was on HBO and then shown many times again either on SpikeTV or AMC . I also loved Saving Private Ryan... I must have seen that movie about 5 times.

Ditto on the grille...!!! I built one of these as a Lowrider "Bomb" a couple of years ago and used a photo-etched grille that I picked up from Accu Pro when it was still in business. Too bad no one else ever made one. Johann, your grille just blows me away. Great work.

Stick a fork in it... It's done. Final assembly went a lot quicker than I expected it to (the wonders of Zip Kicker). I found a scale box of Mountain Dew in a box, folded and glued it together and glued it to the front seat. OK, here are pictures of the finished car... I'm glad this build is finally done, and thanks again to Jeffs396 for the replacement parts which enabled me to finish it up. Thanks for looking in on this. All comments, critiques or whatever are welcomed. Time to pick another one out of the pile.

Thank you all very much. Now I really can't wait to get this thing finished. While I was rummaging through a box I found a small bag of Diorama stuff and one of the things in there was a picture of a flattened out case of Mountain Dew. I just might fold that up and glue it together for use with this car.... since I don't have a cooler to paint and put in the back.

Great looking back alley Diorama. Very realistic with the trash and graffiti. Besides the guy holding the beer, maybe you should add an old Wino laying on the ground, and don't forget an alley cat...LOL.

OK everyone. Thanks again to member Jeffs396 for the replacement chassis parts and wheels that he gave to me at the Castle Shannon Show on Sunday. The new axles have been painted, the suspension parts reassembled on the chassis, and the new wheels have been assembled and mounted to the axles. The gold foil that I previously added has been covered with chrome foil, and the interior headliner has been painted and detailed. I mocked the body up on the "new" chassis and here's how she looks... Let's hear what the Peanut Gallery thinks of it. It does take on a whole new look with the new wheels. I wasn't really trying to make a "Replica" of the car that Gas Monkey Garage did for Dale Jr., but it's kind of turning out looking like one. Next is installing the glass and then final assembly time. I should hopefully have this puppy done by this weekend or sooner. Thanks for following along on this saga.

Revell 1956 Chevy Delray Street Machine - Update 12-25-2013

That engine looks awesome. Where did you get that air cleaner..?? -
Actually I build with nothing going on if I'm alone down in my basement... no music, no TV. I listen to myself think and don't mind my own company. When family members are home I hear them and whatever music or TV they may have on. I enjoy the peace and quiet and usually get a lot more accomplished without any distractions or interruptions.

An example: I had a recent fiasco with a '56 Nomad I was building. I tried getting the gold wheels off that I had CA glued on using debonder, but wound up breaking the front and rear axle mounting pins and destroyed one of the wheels in the process. Forum member Jeffs396 from Ohio PM'd me that he had spare parts to replace the broken axles and would bring them to the Castle Shannon Show today, which he did. The only thing he said he wanted in return, was for me to finish the Nomad...!!! Can't find many good people like that outside of our little plastic world can you..?? Thanks so very much Jeff, and as I told you, if there is anything in plastic that you ever need, if I have it, it's yours. -

What a great show, as usual. Lots of great models, loads of vendors with great stuff and I even brought home some gold. I'm putting out a special THANK YOU to Forum member Jeffs396. He came to the show and gave me replacement suspension parts and some cool wheels & tires for the '56 Nomad project that I had going, that got messed up when I attempted to remove the offending gold wheels. Now I can redo the chassis without having to buy another kit for those parts. Jeff, I owe you BIG TIME buddy. Thanks again. Anything YOU need...... If I have it, it's yours...!!! -
NOS Barn Finds - Sale Is Next Month
Ramfins59 replied to Lunajammer's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
It's a pretty cool show with an amazing number of old cars, but I wish they'd focus more on the cars than all the other BS. With the prices people are paying for the cars they still have a ton of money to put into them to get them running again. Wish I had the bucks to do it myself. That's why I like building models... I can have all the old cars I want......at a fraction of the price... just can't drive 'em. -

Thanks guys. Tom, I don't know what's next yet. Tomorrow I'll be picking up some CA glue debonder so maybe I'll get back to the Nomad. Al, this kit is 1/26 scale, just slightly smaller than 1/25 so I don't think the roof from the chevy would fit right without some extra work on it.
