  1. You did a great job on this Tom. I totally understand why you wanted to "preserve" this piece of modeling history, but I personally would have redone the trim with BMF and added some more chrome doodads like spots, mirrors, antenna's and lake pipes. If I could find those custom Edsel taillight bezels I'd probably try doing something similar as I've got 2 of the '57 Fairlane kits and 1 of the new Revell '57 Ford kits.
  2. John this is looking just great. I absolutely love the mild custom look. I've got 2 of those custom grille parts packs that I've used the tooth grilles from in the past. The one you used looks great with the background blackwashed. I'll definitely be using that on a future build. I'll also try using the tube or bar grilles with the background blackwashed in the future. Thanks for the fabulous ideas.
  3. That is looking really great so far Sam. Good job.
  4. Thanks very much guys, I really appreciate your kind and encouraging comments. Mark, be sure to check the fit and width of the '57 Chevy interior bucket against the inside of the promo body with the glass in place for a good front and back fit. You may have to add plastic to the outside top edges of the interior bucket to get the width right without any gaps... and don't forget about the "sweetheart dip" behind the front door. Good luck with your build.
  5. Thanks Gene. I'm hoping this comes out looking as cool as the picture of the car that was the inspiration for this build.
  6. I was finally able to finish painting the second color (Duplicolor Storm Gray Metallic), gave that a couple of days to dry, then unmasked it and gave the body 3 or 4 coats of Duplicolor acrylic clear. It looks pretty good so far. A day or so for the clearcoat to dry and then comes polishing and then the BMF work. Ipolished out the green promo glass which doesn't look too bad. I'd prefer clear glass but I don't have anything in my clear parts stash that will fit, and I don't feel like making my own glass from clear acetate for this car.
  7. Tom, it was a '58 not a '59. And thanks everyone for all your congratulatory words of encouragement. Hopefully I won't get too addicted to it.
  8. Harry, I thought that EVERYONE would be able to remember "their first"...!!!
  9. Looks like you've got the dog pound there Tom.
  10. Well, after lurking and looking for over a year at all the model stuff being auctioned off on EBay, I finally ran across something that I really wanted, and I broke my EBay "cherry". I opened a PayPal account and registered on EBay. I bid on a 1958 Dodge Promo that was in great shape and not warped. Much to my surprise I won the auction..!!! I should have it in my hot little hands on Saturday, and I'm hoping that I won't be disappointed with what I receive. From the 8 or 10 pictures showing the promo, it looked to be in nearly new condition with no warpage at all. I'm sure that this will most likely not be the one and only thing I will bid on but I don't think it will be a regular occurrence. This will be an addition to my "Class of '58" builds. I want to look it over when it arrives and then I'll probably order replacement grille and bumpers from Modelhaus (they have them) and also a '57 Dodge interior from them if I can get it.
  11. Yes sir, great build Carl, and I love the load in the bed.
  12. That is a fantastic diorama Mark. All the little details really bring it to life. Great job.
  13. Bob doesn't make parts anymore since he has retired and no longer has access to a CNC machine. He is a Forum member and will most likely respond here. He may still have a few parts left but I don't know how much.
  14. Kevin, I've never seen a PE sheet of just keyholes. Most PE sets from MCG have at least a couple of them on the frets, and, the sheet of chrome pieces in the Galaxie Chevy's has a couple.
  15. Great job on that '57 Wayne. I love it.
  16. Try using the small springs from used up Bic lighters.
  17. Great looking model Mark......are those MV lens blue dots in the taillights...???
  18. Great looking build Jim, and thank you and all Vets for your service.
  19. Great job on both Rods Ray, and I'll have to agree with a lot of the guys that I like the new one most... very original and well done.
  20. Thank you very much everyone. I sprayed the SilverWhite Pearl on today. Hopefully I can mask that off and then spray the Storm Gray Metallic tomorrow. I'll let that dry and then clearcoat it all. Further updates as they happen.
  21. Wow, thank you so much Chris, although you'd better stop or I might start to get a "big head". I just try to do a neat, clean job on my builds.
  22. How about this Swoopy looking Custom... I love the rear view of this car, but to me, the front just doesn't match the look of the rear...
  23. James, those are some ambitious and very cool projects you've got going. I haven't seen anyone working on one of those Testors multi-piece kits in a very long time. You're doing a great job.
  24. Thank you for your feedback David and George. I'm considering getting the '51 Pontiac kit myself, which is why I put this inquiry here on the Forum. Do you guys use Alclad for the chrome parts or do you send them out for chroming..?? I don't have an airbrush, compressor or spray booth so my options would be to either send them out for chroming or find someone to Alclad them for me.
