Twelfth Completion of 2013 -- 1959 Buick Elvictamino "Gold Rush"
Ramfins59 replied to Steve_L's topic in Model Cars
That is one cool looking vehicle. -
Thanks Carl and Dan. Since it's humid and supposed to rain here today, I can't paint the body. Soooo.... looks like today will be "work on the interior" day.

1956 Plymouth Belvedere - Finished Class of '56 Entry #2
Ramfins59 replied to Ramfins59's topic in Model Cars
Thank you all so much for your kind words. Charlie, actually I just looked through my decal stash for a license plate that was green, to go along with the color of the car. Alan, I got the skirts from The Modelhaus along with the interior, replacement chromed grille and bumpers, and vacu-formed glass. Harry, thanks a bunch, but I'm no "King" of anything really, I just really like the cars from the 50's. I'm glad that you do too. I should buy stock in BMF, I'm glad that I bought a bunch back in April at NNL East. Christopher, yes, the Modelhaus' interior wasn't exactly a "drop in fit". The problem was that even the vacu-formed glass had to be cut/trimmed at the bottom right up to the bottom edge of the window openings, especially at the vent windows, in order to get the interior to fit. Also, there is no "positive locator" for the front of the interior to use for gluing it in. While the Modelhaus interiors for promo's are excellently detailed, they take some trial and error fitting over and over to get it right, and it's tough to get everything fitted right before final assembly because of paint and foil and glass issues. I look forward to seeing your mild custom Plymouth. -
Thanks James. No, I wasn't planning on frenching in the headlight bezels. My plan is to do the car as a mild custom, in the "bolt-on" style (one of my favorite late 50's style of customizing) with just some minor dechroming and having it "nosed and decked".

Most Swoopy car to you ?
Ramfins59 replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I think that I'd be with you on that one Harry. HARRY...... CHECK THIS OUT......!!!!!! Minichamps 1:18 1939 Delahaye Type 165 Cabriolet - Diecast Zone -
Thanks guys. I enjoy doing cars that aren't your "run of the mill" model. Also, working on promo's makes things go a lot easier and quicker......like I've said before, there's no engine or chassis details to worry about. I'll throw in a couple of full detail '56 cars eventually.

Harry, you are the man...!!! You took the words right out of my mouth..!! I just LOVE the Delahaye's. -
This is my latest project on the workbench. It's a 1956 Pontiac promo that I've had since last year. Plans are to make it a mild custom. So far I've sanded off the name badging, the hood and trunk emblems and molded on chrome trim along with the hood ornament and the rear small side trim molding. I just didn't want to have the hassle of trying to foil all those little tiny things......I guess I've had about enough for now of the frustratingly small BMF work. I made rear skirts from sheet plastic and drilled mounting holes for mirrors, dummy spotlights and an antenna. I drilled out holes for custom bullet taillight lenses and for the backup lights. I gave the grille a blackwash with the Detailer and put some white acrylic paint on the front turn signals. The front wheels will be chromed reversed (I like them) and it will have whitewalls (of course). The body has been primed with Duplicolor Primer/Sealer. I think I'll paint this car Red......I haven't done a Red car in awhile. I'm using a '55 Chevy bucket interior from my parts box for this car and I'm in the process of modifying the dashboard to more closely resemble a Pontiac's. I'm not going for perfection but it will hopefully be "close enough". Thanks for looking in on this new project. Further updates as they happen. All comments and critiques are most welcomed and appreciated.

1956 Plymouth Belvedere - Finished Class of '56 Entry #2
Ramfins59 replied to Ramfins59's topic in Model Cars
Thanks Bob. Actually, I had 3 models in the works at the same time......very unusual for me......I had the '58 Olds, the '56 DeSoto, and this Plymouth all going at the same time. The way things worked out I was able to finish them all up in the same week. Now I'll sort of go "back to normal" and work on one at a time.....at least I think I will anyway. -

Ramfins59 replied to Ramfins59's topic in Model Cars
Thanks very much everyone. These promo's are fun to work on...... you don't have to worry about engine or chassis work. No Chris, I don't think I'll be doing any courses in BMF'ing. Ed, when I get enough of the '56 builds completed I'll probably post a "Class of '56" group picture like I did a few months ago for the "Class of '58". Now I seriously need to get another display cabinet to put my finished builds in... I'm running out of room. -
That is really sharp looking Al.

1958 Oldsmobile Finished - Class of '58 - Entry #8
Ramfins59 replied to Ramfins59's topic in Model Cars
Thank you all very much. I really appreciate your kind comments and encouraging words. -
This little guy got finished up tonight. To recap the WIP thread, it is a Johan promo that I picked up at the NNL East show in April. It's painted Tamiya Gray Green and Tamiya British Green. The grille was blackwashed with the Detailer and clear headlight llenses from my parts box were glued over the chrome headlights to look a little better. I used narrow whitewall tires from my parts box instead of the promo's blackwalls. I added an interior and exterior mirror and an antenna made from a printer pin and stainless steel surgical tubing. You can see the interior detailing in the WIP thread. I'm really happy with the way that this car turned out. Thanks for checking it out. Now I have to decide which one to work on next.

1958 Oldsmobile Finished - Class of '58 - Entry #8
Ramfins59 replied to Ramfins59's topic in Model Cars
Thanks a lot for all your kind words everyone. Like I've said earlier, at this point I've almost had enough of BMF work for awhile. I know that I'll just trudge on to the next one though. As long as I can keep them coming out looking OK I'll be happy. -
That's a beautiful car Alan. Great job.

Whats the most you would spend on a model.?
Ramfins59 replied to slusher's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
While I haven't spent more than $40 on a plastic kit, I have spent $125 on a resin kit, and $75 for a promo. The most I've ever spent at a show was $650 at the 2012 NNL East, but I got a huge bag full of stuff. I'm retired with no kids to support anymore and all the household bills are covered, so I'm free to spend whatever I want on my hobby. I still tend to try to be frugal most of the time.... no need to just piss the $$$ away. -

Thanks a lot everyone, I appreciate your encouraging comments. This one could have come out a little better but I guess we are our own worst critics No relaxing Ed, I've got too many models yet to build,,,LOL. Harry, those Oldsmobile letters were an absolute BEAR to foil, The BMF didn't want to stick to the letters when I was trimming it. A couple of them are painted with chrome silver paint using a sharpened toothpick. That's one of the reasons why I usually sand off the lettering when I do a mild custom. The snaps on the boot cover were painted on with chrome silver paint, again using a toothpick......and holding my breath while doing it. Yeah Sam, LOTS of foil...!!! Al, I was trying to forget about the melted one... . Tom, now I want to finish up the '56 Plymouth. There's a bunch more to work on after that too. -
Beautiful build Ben. Great job.

I finished this model up tonight. While it's not perfect, it makes a good addition to the Class of '58 Build. To restate what was in the In Progress thread, this is a resin kit from The Modelhaus. It is painted with Tamiya Pink and clearcoated with Duplicolor acrylic lacquer clear. Obviously it took a lot of BMF (1/3 of a sheet). The wheels are chromed reverse wheels from my parts box with AMT Tire Pack whitewalls. I added resin, chrome wheel Spyders from Modelhaus, but I painted them with the Tamiya Pink. Mirrors, antenna's, wipers and door handles are also from my parts box. I added MV lens blue dots to the taillights. The interior was painted flat black, with charcoal gray flocked carpets and black flocked seats. Chrome cranks and handles are also from my parts box. The dashboard was painted with Tamiya Pink and detailed with BMF and a super fine point black artists pen. I added a brake pedal as there was none. The shift lever and turn signal stalk are cut down shirt pins. Thanks very much for looking in on this finished product. At times things got a little rough, but I'm glad that it's finally done. Now it's on to the next one.

SECOND TRY - '58 OLDSMOBILE FOR CLASS OF '58
Ramfins59 replied to Ramfins59's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Hey guys, thanks so much for your encouraging words. Carl, thank you. I really enjoy working on model interiors. As for this one, I'm thinking of painting over the Panther Pink seat inserts with flat black as I'm not very happy with either the color or the way that the dullcoat left a film on them. John C., I just mount the body to my paint stand, put on a vinyl glove so I don't paint my hand too, and use rattle cans to spray outside on a nice clear, sunny day. John JR., Ya gotta just love all that shiny chrome, stainless steel and aluminum. Thank you for your kind words. Tom, I seriously doubt that would happen. -
Wow Al... that's a heck of a collection you've got there. I see you keep your stuff in your basement as I do. I'm really not into 1/18 scale stuff, but, I used to own a '59 Dodge Coronet.. which is why I was interested.

SECOND TRY - '58 OLDSMOBILE FOR CLASS OF '58
Ramfins59 replied to Ramfins59's topic in WIP: Model Cars
More progress today. I installed the headlights (I added clear lenses over the chrome ones as they look better) and the hood ornament and also added BMF to the vents on the cowl. I then attached the kit's chrome insert pieces on the front quarters. I had to slightly enlarge the holes for the mounting pins to get them to fit. After gluing those on I snipped off the mounting pins on the inside of the body under the vent windows so that the pins would not interfere with the interior bucket fitting in. The emblems in front of the rear quarter side trim were detailed with Tamiya clear red paint. Next I attached the taillights and taillight bezel assemblies to the body. I had previously attached MV lens blue dots to the taillight lenses. I also finished up the interior today. First I sprayed the entire bucket flat black. I then brush painted the seat inserts with Panther Pink and dullcoated it after the paint dried. I flocked the rugs in charcoal gray. Then I flocked the seats around the inserts in black. I attached chrome door handles and window cranks from my parts stash. The dashboard was painted the body color, Tamiya Pink and detailed with BMF and a super fine point black artists pen. I added a brake pedal from my parts box, since there wasn't one, and painted the gas and brake pedals semi-gloss black. The steering wheel was painted semi-gloss black with chrome silver on the horn ring. I added a shirt pin shift lever and turn signal stalk. Thanks for looking in on this progress update. More to follow as it happens. All comments are welcomed.
