  1. Manny, you are definitely "The Man" doing these junked up beaters. Fantastic job.
  2. That is one wild looking build Ray. Great job.
  3. Great looking model Al. You did a good job on the black paint.

Great looking model Michael. I love it.
  5. Great build Sam. I love the '58 Impala... heck I love ALL the great '58 cars.
  6. Beautiful model Darryl.
  7. Great job Tom. I love the color.
  8. Thanks Tom. Yeah it was a good day. Yesterday I primed it with Duplicolor White primer, today I painted it with Tamiya Pink, and tomorrow I will clearcoat it. Tomorrow I can also start work on the interior.
  9. James, the resin casters coat the mold with a release agent before pouring in the resin (like buttering a cake pan so the cake will come out easier). The release agent, or chemical if you will, remains on the outside surface of the part that was molded, and if that isn't removed properly, you will have problems like fish eyes, etc., in your paint job. Soaking resin bodies and parts in Westley's Bleche White (whitewall tire cleaner) for at least a day and then rinsing off with warm water and then letting them air dry will remove all of the release agent. Then you can prime and paint without any fish eye or other problems.
  10. Thank you Al and Pat, I appreciate your encouraging words. I've got a few small touch-ups to do on these and then I can clearcoat them and do the BMF work.
  11. Thanks again everyone, I appreciate all the encouraging words. Carl, No I have never fully painted a model inside. I'm lucky sometimes being able to spray a couple of small parts in my basement work area without the women complaining about the paint smell.
  12. If I finish a model and feel that it is good enough to enter in a Show or Contest, I'll keep the box to carry the model in (padded with tissue) and when the contests/shows are done, I'll usually pitch the boxes and instructions.
  13. You're right Billy, it would be VERY upsetting to see ANY cool old car get smashed up like that.
  14. Jim, I did a lot of Google searching for reference and detail pictures of '58 Oldsmobiles and I haven't seen any with gold rear side trim. I've seen a couple that had the areas between the rear trim pieces painted in a contrasting color, but no gold. That doesn't mean there weren't any though. Once I get the Pink paint on this body, and then clearcoat it, I'll tackle the BMF work which I'm sure will take awhile... Good thing I stocked up on new BMF sheets. The interior, chassis pan and convertible boot cover are soaking in Westley's right now. The interior colors will be Pink and Black.
  15. Thanks very much everyone. Skip, I will be getting around to the '56 Chevy and Ford kits eventually, as I have them both in my To Do pile. I also have the '56 Nomad, and both a '56 Olds and '56 Pontiac promo to do. Then of course there will be all the other '56 car kits that the Modelhaus has. Both of these promo's will be Curbsides as I'm not cutting open the hoods to put in engines. Virgil, thanks for the kind words. I'll be sure to post a group shot of these '56 cars once I get a couple of them finished up. I'll be starting separate WIP threads for each of these cars in the very near future. Thanks for looking in.
  16. Oh baby...!!! Thanks so very much for this info and pictures Tim. Looks like I'll not only be getting a couple of the coupe kits but also a couple of the redone Sedan kit with the wood trim. I can't wait.
  17. Since Mother Nature finally broke down and gave us a BEAUTIFULLY DRY DAY here in western PA, I was able to paint a couple of model bodies. The '58 Olds is in it's own WIP thread, In addition to that, I was able to paint a couple of Promo's that I had picked up at NNL East back in April. I'll be jumping backwards a couple of years from my Class of '58 build mission, and starting on the Class of '56. I painted a '56 Plymouth promo body in a 2 Tone color combo of Tamiya Gray Green (#AS-29) and Tamiya British Green (#TS-9). I got replacement chrome bumpers and grille from The Modelhaus, along with the interior and glass. I gave the grille a blackwash with The Detailer and gave the chrome headlights a light coat of white acrylic and then glued clear lenses from my parts stash over them. They look a lot better. I also painted a '56 DeSoto promo body in a 2 Tone color combo of Tamiya Tan (#AS-15) and Tamiya Red Brown (#TS-1). I also got replacement bumpers and grille from The Modelhaus for this along with the interior. The promo glass was in great shape. I also gave the promo chrome headlights a light coat of white acrylic and again glued clear lenses over them. I will eventually be starting separate WIP threads for the Plymouth and DeSoto, but I want to finish up the '58 Olds first. Thanks to all for looking in on this.
  18. HOORAY...!!! Mother Nature was finally nice enough to give us a BEAUTIFUL DRY DAY here and I was able to get some painting done. First of all, I shot the new Olds body with Duplicolor White Primer in preparation for tomorrow when I will spray it with Tamiya Pink (#TS-25). Hopefully all will go well and I will then be able to clearcoat it and then do the miles of BMF work. In addition, while waiting for a good painting day, I detailed the grille with The Detailer Blackwash, put some Tamiya Clear Red on the center emblem, and also applied some white acrylic to the turn signals. I also painted and detailed the dashboard with BMF and a super fine point Black artists pen. I was also able to paint a couple of other car bodies since the weather was so nice, but those are in another thread. Thanks for looking in on this.
  19. Great looking model Al. Nice job.
  20. Man O Man have I got plans for a couple of these...!!! I CAN'T WAIT.
  21. Nice looking car Scott. I like the color combo.
  22. That's a great looking model Jurgen.
  23. I'd buy at least a couple of these kits if they were made... 1939 Delahaye... Just GORGEOUS...!!!
  24. I realize that I'm not the only modeler having issues... I just felt the need to vent a little.
  25. So I'm itching to get the replacement '58 Olds resin body primed and painted... but we've had the ridiculously long stretch of either oppressively humid or rainy weather here in the western PA area for over 2 weeks and it's supposed to continue for at least another 2 or 3 days. I have the chassis and engine assemblies complete for a '56 Chevy Nomad... but can't paint the body due to the crappy weather conditions. While I was down in NC back in May I primed and painted the first color of a 2-Tone color scheme on a '56 Plymouth promo. I masked off the lighter color (Tamiya Gray Green) and want to spray the Tamiya Dark Green second color... but I can't due to the crappy weather conditions. I started work on a '58 Corvette. While I'm not a huge Corvette fan, it IS another car for "The Class of '58" so I have the engine pretty much completed right now. I'm thinking a Silver body with a red cove and red interior might look cool... but I can't paint it due to the crappy weather conditions. It is so unlike me to have 4 models is various stages of work at the same time, but I need to be doing something with plastic during this stupid, lingering, crappy weather pattern. Yeah, I know... it's summer, and in the summer it gets hot and humid. All I want is a day or 2 of nice, dry conditions so I can spray some paint. No I don't have an airbrush or a paint booth, and I use either Tamiya or Duplicolor rattle cans, and I spray outside. The women in the house (wife and daughter) complain about the paint smell if I paint in the attached garage... Funny how they don't seem to mind the smell of their lacquer nail polishes...!! The only thing we can do about the weather is complain about it. I'll continue to do some non-painting work on these cars for the next few days and see if mother nature might give us some drier conditions.
