Thanks for your kind and encouraging comments everyone. I appreciate it very much. Tom G. - I already printed and filled out the Registration Form... It's the individual sheets placed with the models that I'd love to be able to fill out in advance. It would save a bunch of time at the show... I just HATE doing paperwork at ANY model shows. Mike L. - I'm glad I can give you some food for thought.

Gluing steel to plastic Question
Ramfins59 replied to CrazyGirl's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Anne you "could" try using BMF if you've got a steady hand with your XActo knife. -
Jeff, I know... I know... I keep meaning to pick up some poster board (we used to call it Oaktag back in the stone age). My daughter will be picking up some for me when she visits the Dollar Store this week...... I promise..!! Thank you Tom S., Tom G., and Carl. Tom G., I was already bringing 8 models.... Geeze, it'll take me a half an hour just to set them all out and to fill out all the paperwork...!!! Yeah, I know... waah...waah...waah... And yeah, I'll have some cheese with that whine. LOL.

Well this thing just fell together once all the pieces were finished. The glass/headliner and interior went in with only a little persuasion. I added an antenna from my parts stash. After it all went together I cleaned off the smudges and fingerprints (Black shows EVERYTHING..!!) I was my usually crazy detail person self and added a bunch of stuff in the engine compartment. Besides detail painting the battery plate, I added PE terminals and cables. I "borrowed" a heater from a '57 Fairlane kit and mounted it on the firewall, then added heater hoses. A resin master cylinder was also added to the firewall with a brake line installed. Finally, I ran a line from the washer fluid container to the firewall. I don't know if my friend in MN will appreciate all the added details, but it made me feel good to do it for an old friend. Now I have to decide whether I should ship it to him now, or bring it to the NNL East show in 10 days. Of course then I'll be travelling to NC and FL after that and probably won't be able to ship it until sometime in June. Hopefully Doug won't mind waiting that long to get it. Thanks to all who look in on this. It was a fun and different kind of project for me as I had never worked on or modified a diecast model before. It was a good learning experience for me.

Thanks again for all your kind words guys. Thanks Virgil. I just have to clean it real good after I'm done with everything to remove all the smudges and fingerprints from handling it. Carl, first I sprayed the seats with flat black primer, then I brush painted the flat gray.

The Pharaoh's Patina

That's looking really great Virgil. -
Today I made and installed the rear side windows on the wagon and added chrome strips to represent the dividers for the sliders. I used clear acetate from a box of Christmas cards as I planned. I attached it from the inside with non-fogging CA glue. I also detailed the headliner by first painting it Gray. Then I detailed the molded in dome light with some BMF and white acrylic paint. I added visors and a rear view mirror from my parts stash. It's getting real close to final assembly time on this beast. Thanks for following along on this adventure.

Great job Peter.

Thank you guys. This is actually the first diecast that I've ever worked on. It's been a good learning process for me.

Looking good John. Can't wait to see more.

Today I finished applying the BMF trim. I attached FORD lettering to the front above the grille (I used PE letters from a '50 Ford MCG set that I wasn't using). I put BMF on the taillights and then applied Tamiya clear red. The center is detailed with some acrylic paint for the backup lights. I also installed the seats after painting them Black and Gray. Now I just have to make the rear side glass and then I think it will be final assembly time.

First of all, thanks to everyone for your kind comments on this project. I'd love to see a 1/25 scale wagon made too. Daniel, the taillights appear to have been painted in with a really thick paint. I did not mask them off. I figured that I would BMF them when I did the trim and then use Tamiya clear red on them. Andy, I put the body in paint stripper overnight (I use Scalecoat) and it did not remove one speck of paint. I understand that some (or all..??) diecasts are painted by baking the paint on, almost like powdercoating. I wound up cleaning the body well, then spraying it with Duplicolor primer/sealer, then spraying Duplicolor Black. Today I clearcoated it. I will polish it out then apply the BMF trim.
