Ramfins59 replied to Ramfins59's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Yeah you're right Jim. I bought 6 new sheets when I was at NNL East back in April and I'm hoping that should last me for awhile. -

Ramfins59 replied to Ramfins59's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Thanks Jim. Yeah I've got a bunch of new BMF sheets stockpiled for all the rest of the 50's car models and Promo's that I've got lined up to build. Hopefully this is gonna be another good building year for me. -
SECOND TRY - '58 OLDSMOBILE FOR CLASS OF '58

Thanks guys. I'm glad to be working on this car again. I can't wait for the humidity to drop so I can spray some primer and paint. -

Well I finally got a replacement body from The Modelhaus to replace the meltdown fiasco that happened previously. After soaking in a tub of Westleys Bleche White for a day or so, it is rinsed off and dried and any flash and slight imperfections removed and/or sanded. I also sanded off the wipers and door handles which I will replace with chromed pieces from my parts stash.. I still have to prime and paint the body but have to wait until the humid weather we're having here goes away. I'm using chromed reverse wheels on this car with wheel spyders (Modelhaus) which I painted Pink to match the car (Tamiya -TS125) This kit comes with a Continental kit which I painted Pink, applied BMF strips, and added a black, pinstriped rabbit. I started sawing and carving out some of the excess resin at the sides of the front seats and in the center of the seat backs to add a little more depth. I still have to do the passenger seat side. I'm debating whether or not to cut off the interior side panels to make it easier to detail them, but I'm not sure that I want to go through all of that... While I was waiting for this replacement body to arrive, I gave the grille a blackwash with the Detailer. put MV lens blue dots in the taillights, and tried to make the chrome headlights look a little better. I also painted and detailed the dashboard. Additional pictures of all this stuff will come in a day or so. Thanks for looking in on this. I'm hoping that the second go-around on this body goes well.

Great looking custom Billy. I'm sure this will be awesome, just like your other builds.

That's an absolutely beautiful build Dominik. I can't wait to build one myself.

Builder's Block... Modeling Doldrums... Burnout...Whatever you want to call it... I've had it numerous times. I've started a build and then lost interest in it along the way. I've gone through some pretty long stretches of time where I had absolutely no interest or desire to work on any models. It happens. The itch to build eventually comes back and usually stronger than ever and then I get on a modeling marathon. Don't worry Richard. You'll get back to working on something before you know it.

John, you enjoy your summer too buddy. Hope all is well with you and Amy... give her a hug for me.

Ninth Completion of 2013 -- 1957 Oldsmobile Nostalgia Build
Ramfins59 replied to Steve_L's topic in Model Cars
That's a very cool build Stephen. I had the same experience in 1959 as a 12 year old when I saw a neighbor's customized '58 Impala. Like you, I got hooked and just love those 50's cars. -
That's looking awesome Glu. You've got great Custom work going on there. I can't wait to see what you do to the rear.

Great looking car Al. Nice job.

NEW ADDITION TO "CLASS OF '58" -- '58 OLDSMOBILE
Ramfins59 replied to Ramfins59's topic in WIP: Model Cars
So now I am impatiently waiting for my replacement body to arrive from The Modelhaus. It was shipped 2 days ago along with replacement parts for 3 Promo's that I picked up at the NNL East Show. I can't wait to get the stuff because I really haven't touched any models since the Olds body meltdown. I've been on "modeling vacation" for too long now, and that, along with the Forum being down for a couple of weeks has really been a bummer. I'm really looking forward to getting "back to normal" again. -
Honestly Dave, I worked on the Sedan Delivery model for almost 3 months, and only spent maybe 3 weeks on the '37. It was the first time I used more than one color of flocking in an interior and the first time I ever used a photo-etched grille. I painted it with Boyd's enamel from a rattle can with Testors clearcoat. The flames were hand painted with Teal Pearl paint and I really wasn't too happy with the way they turned out. Yeah the model turned out looking pretty good, but I never in my wildest dreams ever thought it would do as well as it did in that show.

Beautiful build Antonio.

Back in '96 I busted my butt working on a '58 Chevy Sedan Delivery Street Machine. It was a resin AAM resin body that I put a partial pro street chassis under, along with a blown engine and full engine compartment details. While This was in various stages of completion, I sort of threw together a '37 Ford Cabriolet model. I took them both to the MassCar Show and the Sedan Delivery model did nothing. The '37 Ford wound up taking First Place Street Rod and Best Interior. I was totally shocked... Pics of the '37 follow......

An incident happened at a local model show around here at the end of last year. I entered a model in the Curbside Class. When I put my model on the table, there was another model already there of a Lowrider style build that had an opening hood with fully detailed engine compartment, opening doors, and opening trunk. It clearly did NOT belong in the Curbside Class. I mentioned it to a member of the host club who said that they would look into it. Later on I was told that since it was fairly late in the day, and, since it was Peoples Choice balloting (NNL Style) that it was too late to move the model and to try to get everyone who already cast their ballots to recast them. That model won the Curbside Class. (I also noticed that the person whose model it was, had a large entourage of people with him, who obviously voted for his model.) Now I'm not complaining because MY model didn't win in Curbside (I took a First Place Award in Replica Stock, a First Place Award in Custom, and Best In Show). My point is that the Lowrider model did NOT belong in the Curbside Class. I'm thinking that the builder looked over the entries in Custom Class and didn't feel that his model would win there, so he put it in the Curbside Class where none of the other models had the detail that his did.

One reason this place is so great!

X2 for ALL of the above. -
I totally agree with you on this Tom. For years, when I lived on Long Island (NY), I always asked that the members of the LIARS Club not enter their models in our Model Car Challenge show, but most of the members ignored that request. I felt that it did not look good if a LIARS member won any of the awards, and it might discourage other people from attending and/or participating in our show. Members who did not travel to other shows off of Long Island would enter our show as they felt it was their chance to enter a contest. There really was no way to stop them, short of kicking them out of the club. Even if we tried to "forbid" them to enter a model, chances are that they would have quit the club anyway. I know what you mean about a sponsoring club's members winning the awards.... one club up in the northeast has had that "problem" for years... First Place this class, First Place that class, Best this, Best that, Best In Show... They really should get that under control. Granted, the best model in a class should win, however, let the people coming to the show have a chance to take home the Gold.

Models on display at 1:1 car show

Great job Sam. Good looking diorama's. Displays like that are always fun and get a lot of good comments from the spectators. -
