Out Of Production Resin & Aftermarket Products
Ramfins59 replied to Casey's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Lets HOPE that The Modelhaus sticks around for a bunch more years. I know that I have a LOT more of their stuff that I want to get as my budget permits. -
Hey John... Hopefully I'll run into you and Amy. C'mon man... build something... LOL>

OK I can finally post some updated progress pictures on this project. The chassis is completely assembled. The engine is in, the wheels are on and all 4 touch the ground...... wooohooo. I brush painted the hubcap centers with the Duplicolor Dark Green Metallic body color. I finished detailing the dashboard. The upper part is painted the Dark Green Metallic and the bottom is White. I glued on the gauge faces and the radio face from BestModelCarParts (cutting them out was a chore..!!). I then glued on PE metal trim rings for bezels on the round gauges and next I applied small drops of clear epoxy for lenses. For the center Speedometer I glued on the tiny black & white gauge face and then flowed some clear epoxy over and around it with a toothpick to make the clear domed cover. It's not "perfect" but it's the best that my almost 66 year old eyes could do using an Optivisor..!! Today I'll finish assembling the interior. The body has been primed and I painted the roof, side coves and rear panel Duplicolor Arctic White. I'll mask that off and apply the Duplicolor Dark Green Metallic to the rest of the body, hood and continental kit pieces. I'm on the "home stretch" with this build. An all time world's record for me, as this is the 10th model I will have finished since last years' NNL East Show...!!! Thanks for looking in.

What about all the stuff that Art Anderson made from All American Resin..?? Did he sell his masters to someone else or did he keep them himself..?? Art...??? Can you tell us..?? -
Thanks very much Richard. Thanks Jeff. Were you a Vendor at the show?? No I don't think I'll do the IPMS Show. John, thank you so much. I can't believe YOU are complimenting ME after seeing the outrageous work that you're doing on your FREAKSHOW build...!!!

Definitely IS colorful alright..!! -
That's a great tip and a dynamite tutorial Christopher. Now all we've got to do is muster up the courage and patience to try it.
-
Sweet looking Vette. I think I've got a Monogram kit of this car. Makes me want to finally pull it out but I've already got enough work going on.
-
I'll be there with my buddy Tom V. and probably about 1,000 of other modeling friends...!!! We'll be staying at the Fairbridge Inn (formerly Ramada) and will most likely go to the Friday night party like we did last year. Very much looking forward to the festivities and seeing all the people who I haven't seen since last year. Yeah we'll be leaving some of our money there again too.

Absolutely gorgeous model John. I won't even try commenting on the paint as it's all been said already. Great job...!!!
-
Thanks very much again to all who commented. Yes,any awards that any of us win at contests or shows are definitely the icing on the cake..!! Especially when they are unexpected... not that I EVER expect ANY awards. They're always a very nice surprise and make all the extra efforts, time and patience put into the builds worth it.

Welcome to our world of model madness Scott.

Like what has already been stated previously, I actually have never added up what the "costs" are on a particular build. I've spent $125 for a resin kit, and I've spent $5.00 for a glue bomb. I've been back in this hobby for 21 years and have accumulated lots of stuff over the years as has everyone else. I must have well over $1,000 worth of PE and aftermarket parts that I've bought over time. Paints, primers, paint stands, glues, tools, brushes, sheet plastic, tubing of all types, that also have been bought, replaced or replenished over time. I never actually put a limit on what I'll spend on a particular build... it costs whatever it costs to finish it up the way I want it to look.

What type of glue for plug wires?
Ramfins59 replied to rickd13's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I have never had any problem using CA glue to hold the wires in the holes drilled in any plastic kit engine. -
Thank you everyone for your congratulatory words. What do you mean "the old days" Tom... LOL. I look forward to seeing you at NNL East buddy. Andre, I'm hoping to be able to do just that... To keep them coming as long as I am able to do so. Paul, yes it does... It feels just simply mahvelous as the comedian would say..!!

I went to the South Hills Modelers Show at the Castle Snannon Fire Hall today. The South Hills Club put on a great show, had 17 Classes if I remember correctly and had LOTS of vendors. The show was an NNL style show in that First Place in each Class was picked by Popular Vote, and then the members of the South Hills Club picked all of the "Best Of" awards. I brought 5 models and entered my recently finished '58 Plymouth in Replica Stock -Pre 1972. I have never built or entered a car for either the Factory Stock or the Replica Stock Class in the 20 years that I am back in this hobby. My Plymouth won FIRST PLACE......!!!!!! My thanks go out to all those who voted for my model. I also entered the '49 Mercury Convertible that I built last year in the Customs Class. This is a resin conversion kit by ReplMinCoMD for the Revell Chopped '49 Merc kit. It also won FIRST PLACE......!!!!!! My thanks again go out to all those who voted for my model. So I pack up my models and my wife and I are just about walking out the door and they start announcing the Club's picks for the "Best Of" awards. Jill asks if I want to stay just to hear who won. I said "sure". I walk up to the front and give rounds of applause to the winners of Best Paint (Donn Yost of course!!), Best Engine, Best Ford, etc... I pick up my box of models and am ready to leave and I hear the guy say.... And the South Hills Modelers Club awards BEST IN SHOW to the '49 Mercury Convertible by Rich Manson......!!!!!! I looked at the guy giving out the trophies and said "Holy S---...... You're kidding right..??" You could have knocked me over with a feather...!!! First time EVER in my modeling life that I've ever won a Best In Show...!!! My humble thanks go out to the members of the South Hills Modelers Club for picking MY car for this award. I am, and will most likely stay, in TOTAL SHOCK AND AWE over this for quite awhile. Believe me people...... I am NOT bragging here... I am too shocked and surprised for that.

Today I finished flocking the seats and interior side panels after putting on some BMF trim. Sorry no pictures yet as they're drying. I think I'm doing a color change on the body. I originally wanted to go with Testors One Coat Lime Ice and I sprayed the dashboard and firewall with it. I ran into the same issue I've had previously with these paints. For some reason they come out of the spray can way too heavy, run and puddle up and then bubble. I've had this happen with 3 other colors and I think I'm done with using these paints..!! I LOVE all the colors that Testors puts out and bought about 8 cans, however, I can't deal with the constant hassles. I'm not spraying too close to the parts and I'm NOT trying to cover everything with ONE COAT. I'll be stripping the 3 parts that I painted and am switching to Duplicolor Dark Jade Metallic for the main body color with White as the secondary color. Tonight I'll try getting all the chassis parts assembled as all the painted parts should be dry now. Progress pics will probably come soon.

Very sweet looking Merc Al.

I went to the Advance Auto here in Cranberry Twp.. PA yesterday and picked up cans in 10 different colors, 3 cans of Clear, and 6 cans of Primer (1 Red, 1 Gray, 2 Black & 2 White). I'm set for awhile on paints now.

Hi Neil. Yes, I will be at NNL East... I wouldn"t miss it. Hopefully we"ll run into each other there. James, I use the non-fogging CA glue from a LHS. It's called Super Gold but I'm sure you can find another brand in your area. I put a couple of drops on a waxed paper plate and use a wooden toothpick to apply it to the parts being joined. I also use Zip Kicker the same way when I want the glue to harden NOW.
