Scottsdale car Auctions
Ramfins59 replied to pepperdrumstix's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I've been watching the auctions on and off all day and like Jason said above, the commercials, the charity stuff, and the repetitive, same-old,cars leave a lot to be desired. I do get some ideas from some of the cars but nothing I would have to drop everything I'm working on to build. -
Yes Ali, a lot of us use super glue but you can use just about any brand. You can get "non-fogging" super glue, or CA glue, at any well-stocked hobby shop. Some of us use Elmer's glue for windows and yes, it is surprisingly strong once it is fully dried, plus, it dries clear. Use a toothpick to apply it around the edge of the clear windows on the inside of the body of the model. You could also use either clear enamel paint to glue in the glass or clear epoxy.

Thanks to everyone for their great and positive feedback on this build. As I said above, it was a fun build in a scale I've never done before and was a good diversion from my other builds. I'm glad I picked this kit up.

After a week of family functions and other issues I was finally able to get back to some uninterrupted workbench time and I finished up this little 1/48 scale Tamiya kit of a 1942 Ford Army Staff Car which I made into a little Street Rod. At only 5 inches long this is a tiny little car compared to the 1/25 scale cars that I'm used to working on. I did the best I could in painting the plastic tires/wheels. First I painted them flat black and then did the neatest job I could with these old eyes of mine to paint wide whitewalls with flat white paint. Then I glued on polished aluminum baby moon caps from MCG which made perfectly sized full Moon hubcaps for this little guy. I painted the body with Pactra RC car yellow paint, added a couple of small flame decals (from the chopped '49 Merc) and a black pinstripe decal to the trunk. Putting the BMF trim on this little body was a real beeyotch as the molded trim was so thin that the foil didn't want to stick. I finally got it down right and then clearcoated the whole body to lock in the foil. The bumpers, grille and headlight bezels are painted chrome silver. This was a fun project and a good good break from other builds. Thanks for looking in on it. The front turn signals and taillights are MV lenses which I glued into small drilled depressions in the body.

Well I finally got my issue in the mail and it was in perfect condition. I wasn't totally thrilled with the content, but that's just me. Some issues have a lot of stuff I like and some don't. I have no problem with that. I'm just glad that I finally got it.

I enjoy ALL the issues of MCM, even if sometimes the subject matter doesn't appeal to me........ Yep...... I enjoy ALL the issues...... when they eventually show up in my mail box...... January 15th and STILL WAITING for December's issue.

The Box Art doesn't influence me at all. I buy kits based on whether or not I like that particular car. While I do read the magazine kit reviews, they rarely if ever influence my kit buying.

Jeez... It must have taken you a looooooooonnnngggg time to both accumulate and then detail all the stuff you've got in that diorama. It looks great.

No matter what the cost of putting individual magazines in either a sleeve or a plastic bag, it would be an added cost and I'm sure that cost would be added to the cost of subscriptions, which would invariably give "people" more to complain about..

I DID tip him this past Christmas..... It was the very FIRST time I've EVER tipped my mail carrier......!!!
-
Great job John. A very, very nice looking Rod.
-
Yeah George, I'm kind of used to it too, and you're right about it not showing up all torn up. When it does eventually show up, it is usually in excellent condition (fortunately). I still prefer the subscription though... it DOES eventually show up in my mail box and most of the times it is a surprise when it arrives. I look forward to it.

Why do people do these things?
Ramfins59 replied to mnwildpunk's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Very sorry to hear your troubles Dave. Kids should definitely receive more severe punishment for stuff like this. I was driving a 1959 Dodge Coronet from 1996 through 2000 when I stopped driving due to vision loss from mild strokes. I was making it a mild, bolt-on Custom. I left the car home, parked at the curb one day, and took our other car to work. When I got home I noticed that I left the driver side window open. I went to close it and found that someone (kids) had thrown a dead fish (actually a baby shark) on the front seat. It sat in the hot sun all day and practically baked onto the upholstery. There must have been hundreds of BIG black flies buzzing around in the car. It took me weeks to finally get the smell of that fish out of the car... At a cruise night a couple of months later some kid walked by my car with a friend and I overheard him say to his friend "Hey, I know that car... It had the fish thrown in it..." I promptly confronted the kid, asking him how he knew about the fish incident. He said he knew the kid who did it...!!! It turned out to be a kid who lived about 2 blocks away from my home. My FIRST thought was to go beat the BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH out of the kid, but I knew that would only get ME in trouble. I wound up calling the Police and filing a complaint. I spoke to a Detective and said that I just wanted them to go to the kid's house and confront him and his parents. He said "We don't really handle these things like this." I said, "Hey, I'm trying to be a good citizen and handle this the proper way... If you would rather I take matters into my own hands, then you may not like the way this turns out..." He wound up going to the kid's home and confronted him and his parents as I requested. My daughter, who was in the same school as this kid, came home one day telling me that this kid was pissed that I had the cops go to his house.... He said that "he got SO GROUNDED by his parents". My daughter told him he was lucky he only got grounded.... because I wanted to KILL him......!!! Kids need to be held responsible for their actions and not just get a meaningless slap on the wrist. -
Yeah...... It'll get here EVENTUALLY ...... January 14th and I'm STILL WAITING......

Not bad test scores overall you guys. This was a pretty cool test. They should make more of these.
-
Hey all. Check this out. Do you think you know cars from the 1950's...??? I took this "Test" and scored 92%.... I got 44 out of 48 correct. I'm sure a lot of you can do better, but they say that the "average" score is 79%. See how good you can do. http://www.americantorque.com/game/car-show-50s/

For sure Tom. We (Tom Valenta and I) stayed at the host hotel last year and did the Cheeseburger In Paradise thing on Friday night and the Margaritas were great. (you don't remember us being there...??) We also stayed at the hotel on Saturday night which is the way to do it. Then we drive down to Tom's home in NC on Sunday. It beats trying to do it all in one 36 hour day like we did for a few years.
