Christmas Model Car Amnesty Project - 34 Ford
Ramfins59 replied to Tom Geiger's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Great looking project Tom. -
Sorry this post is not "on time" but for Christmas I got Modelhaus 1958 Ford kit with the skirts, conv. boot + uptop, and full continental kit. I treated myself for Christmas.... I have plans to do this up as a late 50's Custom, but the type of Customs that were done at the time by people with "low budgets".... I'm gonna make it look like someone threw a J.C. Whitney catalogue at it to see what parts would stick.... strictly a bolt-on Custom. I also got the complete Modelhaus resin interior for a '56 Oldsmobile Promo that I've had for a long time, and I'm still chewing on ideas for it. i got other non-modeling stuff from my family, but you guys don't want to hear about that stuff. I'm hoping that everyone had a wonderful Christmas.

'36 FORD HIGHBOY - WIP - REMEMBERING A FRIEND
Ramfins59 replied to Ramfins59's topic in WIP: Model Cars
OK, I finished up the '65 Rambler replica of my NY friend's car, and now I'm back to working on this project. No pictures of my progress yet (sorry) but I painted the '36 Ford kit steel wheels red, glued on PE bolt heads on the lugs, '40 Ford trim rings and round PE O's (Replicas & Miniatures PE Wizards O's) around the center hub. The wheels are mounted in big & little wide whitewalls from Replicas & Miniatures. I made up a set of PE gauges for the dash (dash is painted semigloss black), and have some aluminum knobs (from Detail Master). I'm using a PE banjo steering wheel from MCG which I painted the wheel itself red. I made a custom shifter using a straight pin and a tiny hand grenade from the Gangster Lincoln kit, and I added a tiny PE ring to the grenade so it looks like the ring to pull the pin. I finished cutting out the molded in exhaust from the chassis and then glued on flat sheet plastic and then painted all the flat parts flat black. The chassis rails will be painted red. That's where I'm at on this right now. We're leaving today to visit my Grandson for the Christmas holiday and I won't be able to get back to this build until Wednesday. I'll post pictures then. Until then......MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL...!!! -
Thank you Bill, Roy, Tom and Bruce. I appreciate your encouraging comments. My friend had sent me about a dozen photos of all around his car, inside and out and it was sometimes a challenge to replicate things, especially in the interior. I enjoyed doing it though as there's nothing like a challenge. Plus I think we always want to do better on a build that is for a friend than we sometimes do on our own builds. Glad you enjoyed the "ride" Tom and best wishes for a good holiday to you too buddy. Now that this build is done I can get back to "my own" projects. Thanks again everyone..

Good job Rob.... Now how about getting back to that Pirate themed Merc......??????

This should be cool Jim. I can't wait to see the finished product.

Derrick, Ronald, Charlie, Jeff, Geoff and Ron, I thank you all so very much for your kind words and compliments. I emailed pictures of the finished model to my friend in NY and he was ecstatic... He can't wait to drive out here to western PA to pick it up some time in January, depending of course on how the weather will be here then. I really had fun working on this build and it was worth sweating all the little details on it to see the finished product.

And the very same to you John, and to everyone one else here on the Forum, and to all those who help to run and moderate it.... and to THE BIG KAHUNA. I also will be travelling to visit my Grandson for Christmas. Please, may everyone stay healthy and well. A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS AND THE HAPPIEST OF NEW YEARS TO ALL.

Hello all. I finally finished this project for a friend. For those of you who may not have looked in on the WIP thread...... A friend who I graduated from High School with waaaaayyy back in 1965 has a 1:1 1965 Rambler American that he wanted to have a model of to display with his car at Car Shows and Cruise Nights. He got a Rambler Promo from EBAY along with some resin wheels that closely match those on his car, along with replacement grille and bumpers from The Modelhaus (my recommendation), and a can of paint to match the color of his car (Corral Cordovan). I offered to build the model for him as he hasn't built a model since we were back in high school. He shipped everything to me and I started work on it on November 27th. Since it was only a Curbside build, I was able to finish it up in a record (for me) of 15 days at about 5 hours per day, or a total of about 75 hours. It was a totally fun project for me in trying to get all the details right that I could, working from pictures of his car that he also sent to me. Here's a picture of his car...... And here are pictures of the finished model...... I thank you all for looking in on this and welcome any and all comments.

OK...... Stick a fork in it...... This model is FINISHED......!!!!!! You can see the finished product in UNDER GLASS. Thanks to everyone for all your kind comments, questions, and encouragement during this build. Now I can get back to MY OWN projects.

Thank you Terry. I appreciate your encouragement.

New "COUPE " from Galaxie ltd ?
Ramfins59 replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I inquired about the Galaxie '48 Chevy Coupe kit by email to Galaxie back on April 19th of this year, and the following response is what I got from Gary Schmidt...... Rich . . . Thanks for your interest. The photos you saw are of an assembled first round test shot of Galaxie Limited's next kit - the 1947 Chevrolet Fleetmaster Coupe. As with the other Galaxie Chevy kits, the coupe will include parts to build the '46, '47 or '48 model years. Custom and vintage speed parts as well as vintage drag slicks will also be supplied. Watch the Galaxie web site for availability, or check with your local hobby shop. We appreciate your kind words regarding our kits. Gary Schmidt Galaxie Limited I've been checking their website ever since then but so far nothing yet. I guess we'll all have to be a little more patient. I know that I'll be buying several of these kits when they come out just like I did with the Aerosedan and Sedan Delivery kits. They are FANTASTIC kits. -
Thank you Geoff. It won't be long and this puppy will be in Under Glass.

Okedokey...... I touched up the paint, clearcoated the whole body, polished it out and reapplied the long side trim BMF. Pics follow... On the right rear of the trunk I attached an AMC sticker that I cut from a photo of the rear of my friend's car. It reads "Dare to be Different". I also glued on a PE trunk keyhole. I also painted the insert between the taillights black as on the 1:1 car, and I painted the gas cap handle red, white and blue as my friend did on the car... I also installed a 3rd brake light as is on the car... While the clearcoat was drying I reassembled the interior and then painted the headliner brown as on the car, installed the glass with white glue, and installed a rear view mirror, visors I made from sheet plastic and round courtesy lights (pieces from my parts box) It's looking like we're in the home stretch on this baby now. Once the white glue sets up I can install the interior and then move on to pretty much FINAL ASSEMBLY..........WoooooooHooooooo.... Can't wait... Neither can my friend......!!! Thank you all for following along on this.

David you must really love the 50's Cadillacs with the Dagmar bumpers......!!!!!! -
Ray you are absolutely right. Everything on this build was going great until I pulled off the excess foil... It really ticked me off...!!! I also usually have small touch-ups to do at the end of builds, but when the build is a special one for a friend, you want it to be even better than the builds you do for yourself. A minor inconvenience, but a PITA nonetheless. Thanks Andre. Doing the BMF on a model doesn't usually give me troubles... I'm gonna blame it on the brand new blade... LOL.

Great job there Jim... It looks great.
