  1. It's the only merc AMT made in that year range. It's a two door. Round 2 came out with it same era as Starliner. They have not reissued that one. Probably will soon since they reissued Starliner.
  2. Quick note. Name of the third part model maker is Model King. Maybe they'd be interested in 50's early 60's custom show cars. Darryl Starbird has built some pretty on the mark cars. Dean Jeffries was hired by AMT in the past. Those are good ones. For large scale the 1/16th MPC Cobra would be nice to see. Anyhow I might put some customizing tips in the Tips and Tricks section here. How to make a custom grill for bucket T roadster would be good one. Custom bucket T body. Lot of custom show cars used that as take off point. Do it ourselves in the meantime.
  3. Good responses. I will look for some old pictures of 50's early 60's custom show cars like Silhouette. The 'grill/nosecap' idea came and went. Combined radiator grill and headlight piece. Like on the Mysterion and Oulaw and Lil Coffin. That idea is very cool because engine is uncovered to show it off. In the Classics bring back the 1/12 Cord and '53 Corvette and Thunderbird. Can use them for chassis for full custom card body. Too hard for me to do custom car bodies in 1/24 and 1/25. Round2 is doing good job otherwise.
  4. Quick note. Watched Batman 40's serial DVD. '39 Cadillac Fleetwood 75 touring car. That's a mobile!! Where are the AMT Connoiseur Classics? There MIA with this new regime. Some nice touring cars would ease the disappointment of not enough futuristic show cars.
  5. 'they don't yet have enough interest to tool up a kit' It's up to them. To boldly go where no man has gone before. Find some pictures of old show cars and make it happen or just play it safe. A partway solution would be 'Parts Pack's. George Barris body panels to go with such and such kit. Clear hoods bodies and bubble tops for existing kits. They could be tinted but clear was 50's. Complete bodies in Parts Pack's. They could be farmed out to Dirt Track models or Jimmy Flintsone or thet other place but packaged by AMT or MPC. Complete custom car bodies with instructions which chassis to use or sell chassis kits. These would be for the Professional Modeler. I myself am going to get busy with the putty in the meantime.
  6. Part of what I'm saying is Round2 is riding high so now's the time to ask. The heavy customs would be a start. 4in1 kits. With the wild front body sections and add on body panels. More extra accessories in box. We'll see.
  7. Quick note. Everybody has seen the old kits for sale for $200 online with the custom versions. AMT could put out the Barris and Dean Jeffries heavy customized versions of the kits. Put some upholstery fabric in the box. Customizing putty and a little spatula. Add some customizing tips in a booklet. Hope they follow some of these suggestions.
  8. They are doing a great job albeit a little limited when it comes to 'Look at that!' kits. They could put some put some zip in the kits by putting extra clear hoods or clear roofs. To be fair they could put out today's showcars for the youth market. The kits that are futuristic and interesting are: Dodge Deora, AMTronic, Piranha Silhouette MPC Transporter. Tiger Shark(Carcraft Dream Rod). The Surf Woody made as a roadster. They need more kits like that. All they have left is Wihelms Wonder and XR8 showcar Lindberg Diamond Duster so they are going to have to go outside to get fresh kits. Once again they are doing good.Message is keep going higher and higher.
  9. 'what's another thread about this going to prove?' Well if they keep hearing it maybe they will do something. They could be just another 'ho hum' ownership of AMT Lindberg and MPC. The pictures of wild 50's showcars are getting lost so it's time to do something about it. The Eldon Invader would be a good candidate. Give it the full treatment. Railing kit and trophy for car shows. It's hard to decide which show cars were good styling and which were just trends at the time. Time for them to make some hard choices.
  10. Round 2 needs to 'bite the bullet' and build some 'new' models from scratch. They could build the GM Show Cars from the 50's. If Jimmy Flintstone can make a Lincoln Futura body so can Round2. They could fake the chassis.Which they sort of do already. Recycling chassis from similar show cars into a different car. They can find pictures of wild show cars and make them too. Round2 is doing an excellent job releasing what they do. This would just get them into the cars that screamed 50's and early 60's. Heavy Duty Nostalgia.
  11. Thank you. I stand corrected. This Ford and the Mercury Park Lane look like sister kits. Might be because the boxes look alike. The Park Lane had a roll cage and one of the current Ford reissues has the Race option with a roll cage too. Think it might be the '65 427 kit. Funny Ford made this Starliner just for Nascar so the roofline would give them an advantage but there's no Race version of the kit.
  12. Here's what they put up at Round 2. http://round2corp.com/product/1960-ford-starliner/ Separate chassis. You can build a rolling chassis and have a little Revell 1/4 scale Visible Chassis. In Southern California they would run these cars sitting high in the back just right. Since it was a 'In the know' sought after type model you could rest assured they had a pretty healthy engine in it. Yanked out whatever engine it came with and put in a large cube with all the right Ford Motorsports parts. Kit does look like the 10 year old kit. No mention of wall stand. Guess that's not cool anymore.
  13. Mr Ellis Should be I always figured one engine was a Y Block and other was MEL or FE.. Let me know if it's seperate chassis. Should have a wall stand too.
  14. The AMT kit is not available anymore at the 'firstline' sellers. So instead of paying a premium for one and you are an AMT liker how about the '53 Ford pickup? http://www.autoworldstore.com/product_p/amt882.htm It's the same era more or less custom with a big block conversion. Good way to get it 'out of your system' waiting for the AMT to be put out again. On the other hand you could just get the Revell. Revell has chopped top already and authentic Cadillac conversion. Think I'll just go lay down and wait for feeling to pass.
  15. AMT kit says it's a 440 but it most likely a 383 or 413 because 440 didn't show up until '65. That's like a lot of the old Bucket T kits are Ford Y blocks, an early hot rodders choice. Jimmy Flintstone has a ton of '49 Merc 'aftermarket' bodies for the AMT and Revell. Apparently that car made a big impression on a lot of people. It never did a whole lot for me but I was partial to '47 Cadillac's for that kind of look.
  16. AMT last release is pretty true in spirit with the old style box it had. '49 Merc's were used in 'Rebel Without A Cause' and 'American Grafitti'. Rebel one was the real deal. It was black and a mild custom if any customizing at all. Never have heard whether that was borrowed from a local custom shop or where it came from. I'll take a look at the Revell kit.
  17. Alexis Go ahead. Speak. Chrysler wedge is later than Olds and Cadillac conversions. Guess AMT was shooting for an early 60's type customization. Lot of guys really loved those Buick nailheads. Still talk about them. Old's Buick, same thing. Olds 88 was known for the engine. That's WHY Revell has the Cadillac 354 in a parts pack.
  18. Is there a Revell kit of this out right now? Anyhow I know AMT came out with one about 2-3 years ago. Here's couple paragraphs chock full of info from Wikpedia. 'Within its era and beyond, the Mercury Eight was popular with customizers. In 1949, Sam Barris built the first lead sled from a 1949 Mercury Eight; the Eight became the definitive lead sled, much as the Ford V-8 (as the "deuce") was becoming the definitive hot rod. The Eights were among the first models to receive an aftermarket OHV engine swap, since Oldsmobile and Cadillac developed the first high-compression OHV V8 engines in 1949, whereas Ford was still using a sidevalve engine. Sam and George Barris also used the 1949 body style to build "the most famous custom car ever",[12] the Hirohata Merc, for customer Bob Hirohata in 1953. Setting a style and an attitude, it had a "momentous effect" on custom car builders,[13] appeared in several magazines at the time,[14] and reappeared numerous times since, earning an honorable mention on Rod & Custom's "Twenty Best of All Time" list in 1991.[14] The Eight remains a very popular subject for car modellers.' Article explains WHY the AMT kit has Cadillac engine conversion. 'Lead sled' is the term for any lowered car in Southern California. I owned a '53 Ford with the stainless band across the roof. It was a show car. Kicking myself for selling it of course.
  19. Have the Woodland Scenics foam from Hobbylinc. http://www.hobbylinc.com/american-art-clay-balsa-foam-5-lb-3x4-5x5-art-and-craft-miscellaneous-43016t It does look like closed cel (Walmart foam cooler). Okay. Going to get the Amoco or Renshape next. First body will be simple slab side with radiused edges or corners. Like the Mickey Thompson Challenger 1. http://www.hobbylinc.com/revell-monogram-challenger-1-with-mickey-thompson-figure-plastic-model-car-kit-1:25-scale-854918
  20. Ford came out with this model so they would have the roofline to give them an edge in Nascar. That got pointed out to me a long time ago in Southern California.
  21. Cool colors on the box. That purple was called 'Plum Crazy' and the orange is sort of universal Mopar orange. The hockey stick stripes on the back of the orange one look good. The car and the stripes had looks that weren't for everyone in '71. "coke bottle" mopars. Nice kit. Good addition would be a 'Wing' car.
  22. You're welcome sir. How about building a mid 60's 'topless' Mopar funny car? https://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http%3A%2F%2Fboard.moparts.org%2Fubbthreads%2Fubbthreads.php%2Fubb%2Fdownload%2FNumber%2F87089%2Ffilename%2F6221357-FlyingDutchman1.jpg&imgrefurl=http%3A%2F%2Fboard.moparts.org%2Fubbthreads%2Fubbthreads.php%2Ftopics%2F815989%2Fal-flying-dutchman-vanderwoude-cars-any-leads.html&docid=IpgexztBJNUiyM&tbnid=TyvuxGWoCAzNSM%3A&vet=1&w=640&h=370&bih=610&biw=1366&q=flying dutchman funny car&ved=0ahUKEwi18-2g8pnSAhUO5mMKHXOUARgQMwhCKBswGw&iact=mrc&uact=8#h=370&imgrc=TyvuxGWoCAzNSM:&vet=1&w=640 Flying Dutchman Funny Car. I think they learned not to build them like this. Not much different than an Altered T though.
  23. Here's another interesting Mopar from MPC. http://www.autoworldstore.com/product_p/mpc832.htm If you were going to put a B or RB engine in an A body. word was to stay away from early Darts and Barracuda's. Result was you did not see a whole lot of them in Southern California.
  24. What's the significance of this car? http://www.autoworldstore.com/product_p/mpc869.htm It was the 'healthiest' year for muscle cars. '71 things started to wither and die. Horsepower and options changed for the worst. Rulings by national safety board and other stuff doomed the muscle car. Super Bee was sister car to Roadbunner. 440 six pack is very good option.
  25. Ace I have to get over the 'sketching' hump to do some drawings.. Got a 'leaded line' to draw curves. Also need to quit whining and slug it out with Turbocad. Need drawings/plans first.
